Reker's Book

I happened across this picture of the cover of George Reker's 1982 book on the Internet. It's not creepy at all!

Well, I don't think we'll be hearing from this one any more.

More folks failed the conservative purity tests last week too.

The RNC just fired more folks as the fallout continues from the "Bondage Club" expenses that showed up on the RNC's books.

WaPo reports:

The Republican National Committee has fired finance director Rob Bickhart and finance staffer Debbie LeHardy, according to a memo provided by the RNC to the Washington Post. Mary Heitman, the finance director of the Republican Governors Association from 1998 to 2001, will be replacing Bickhart. This comes in the same week that three communication staffers left the RNC.

Rolling my eyes. Here's the difference between liberals and conservatives:

Liberals have no standards, so no one can ever break their standards because none exist. When creepy, vile things are done, liberals try harder to make those creepy, vile things even more acceptable to even more people.

Conservatives have standards, and they can clearly be broken because they exist. When creepy, vile things are done, conservatives acknowledge that they're creepy and vile and they strive to help people do better.

Isn’t it a little “two-faced” to condemn Dr. Reker and at the same time praise Betts, the DC principal? Here the principal was telling his students the dangers of internet one night sex hook-ups, and that the CDC warns of increased STDs from multiple sex partners while engaging in MSM sex behavior? Did he snicker when he spoke to his students? Was Betts a role model after all?

They do? When did conservative anti-gay crusader Dr. Rekers acknowledge the creepy and vile things he did on his trip with Lucien or the self-serving advice Rekers gave Lucien to not speak to the press after they returned to the US? Rekers said he hired his Rentboy to carry the luggage, yet the picture of them returning to Miami airport shows Rekers tending to the luggage, not Lucien.

Do tell us which conservatives are helping Rekers to "do better." Name them and tell us what they're doing to help him "do better."

Do you think Florida's AG McCollum is helping Rekers "do better" with the following statements?

Miamiherald reports McCollum says he wish he had never hired anti-gay leader, now Rentboy escort

Attorney General Bill McCollum said Monday that he "wouldn't do it again" and select George Rekers as the state's expert witness in its case defending the gay adoption ban. A gay male prostitute told reporters Friday that Rekers hired him to carry his luggage on a trip to Europe, and to give him nude "massages."

"I will not do it again,'' McCollum said, but defended his agency's handling of the case, and steered the blame toward the Department of Children and Families, which he said hired him.

"I think our team’s done what it should do,'' he said. "We’ve been defending the constitution of the state and we’ve been representing the Department of Children and Families, who hired him and paid him and needed expert witnesses and he was available and credentialed.

"I wouldn’t do it again if I knew what I know today but I didn't know that then and neither did anybody else,'' he said.

McCollum spokeswoman Sandi Copes called to clarify: "They have paid him but we did select him, executed a contract that DCF approved," Copes said. "We selected him, they paid for him.''

Tell us how "steer[ing] the blame [of his own decision to hire Rekers to testify against gay adoption in Florida] toward the Department of Children and Families" is an example of "striving to help people do better."

Do you think conservative organizations like FRC and NARTH, who both issued statements distancing themselves from Rekers are "striving to help" Rekers "do better?"

FRC and NARTH are two groups who have encouraged gay people like Rekers to live a lie, which Reker has apparently done all his life, until now. A lifetime of lying, of living in the closet as encouraged by conservative groups has not helped him one bit IMHO.

Now the truth of Rekers sexuality has emerged and the conservative AG of Florida is abandoning the "expert" he hired to denigrate gays, while FRC is backing away from their very own co-founder and NARTH is backing away from one of it's few academically credentialed officers. It seems more like they are shunning their former friend than helping him "do better."

The Advocate reports

Rekers Resigns From NARTH

George A. Rekers has resigned his membership in the "ex-gay" advocacy group National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality after reports surfaced last week that he had hired a young male escort during a recent European trip.

In a statement posted on the organization’s website late Tuesday, Rekers said the resignation was necessary to "allow myself the time necessary to fight the false media reports that have been made against me.

"With the assistance of a defamation attorney, I will fight these false reports because I have not engaged in any homosexual behavior whatsoever," Rekers said. "I am not gay and never have been."

It's unclear whether Rekers resigned voluntarily, or was pressured to do so by the group, which purports to conduct scientific research on therapeutic treatment for individuals with “unwanted homosexual attraction.” A NARTH spokesman could not be reached for comment.

In the same statement NARTH officials said they had accepted Rekers’s resignation but defended the group’s mission, which has been condemned by professional organizations including the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association.

“We express our sincere sympathy to all individuals, regardless of their perspective, who have been injured by these events,” officials said in the statement. “We also wish to reiterate our traditional position that these personal controversies do not change the scientific data, nor do they detract from the important work of NARTH. NARTH continues to support scientific research, and to value client autonomy, client self-determination and client diversity.”

A NARTH spokesman could not be reached for comment.

NARTH didn't try very hard to demonstrate it's commitment to "valuing diversity" in this case.

Anderson Cooper 360 blog reported:

"...“Lucien” says Rekers hired him by answering his ad on the website, RentBoy.com. He says Rekers would have been exposed to all kinds of naked men in compromising sexual positions on the website before getting through to the ads for male companions.

“Lucien” showed me the contract he signed with Rekers. It does show he was hired to carry Rekers luggage because he needed help with that, but #3 in the contract terms spells out that Lucien “will provide George Rekers a massage for at least one hour each day of the trip in their shared rooms using the same procedures (“Lucien”) provided to George Rekers in Florida.” “Lucien” told me he had given Rekers two “sexual massages” in Florida at hotels before they even left for Europe and that Rekers had requested the massages be “sexual.” “Lucien” says he gave Rekers what he called the “long stroke” which included touching his genitals. He said the massages took place in their shared rooms in both London and Madrid. For his services, “Lucien” was paid $75 a day plus the cost of his air travel.

In a statement, George Rekers said “I hired him as a companion and to help with luggage, and that I did not hire him as a prostitute for any sexual purpose.” In a separate statement, Rekers said, “Professor George Rekers requires an assistant to lift his luggage in his travels because of an ongoing condition following surgery… Dr. Rekers found his recent travel assistant by interviewing acquaintances. There was nothing inappropriate with this relationship. Professor Rekers was not involved in any illegal or sexual behavior with his travel assistant.”

Lucien wasn’t paid for our interview and says he has turned down payments from other organizations for his story. He isn’t looking to make money on this. He says Rekers became sort of a “father figure” to him and he feels sorry for him. He told me George Rekers has asked him repeatedly not to talk to the media and not to tell anyone about his “sexual massages” but “Lucien” is talking because he wants people, especially in Florida, “to know who Rekers really is.” "

Note, the above blog thread has been removed from Anderson Cooper's website, but Google's cache still has it.

Pause this CNN video at 1:04 currently available on Cooper Anderson's 360 blog and you can read item #3 in the contract signed by Rekers and "Lucien" on March 22 (or 27), 2010. It reads:

"(name obscured) will provide George Rekers a massage for at least one hour each day of the trip in their shared room, using the same procedures that (name obscured) provides to George Rekers in Florida."

Are these conservative standards too??

The War Room at Salon asks Can a child pornographer last longer at Free Republic than a Giuliani supporter? and shows a screenshot from conservative website, FreeRepublic.com of the "...profile page for Free Republic user "Preteen Lolita." Preteen's been a Freeper since December 28, 2009—4-and-a-half months of using FreeRepublic.com's page rank to advertise underage pornography without anyone noticing.

...a site that was created for the purpose of hounding Bill Clinton for his moral failings, a site that represents the fire-breathing anti-gay, anti-abortion morality police, a site so doctrinaire in its vision of conservativism that hundreds of users have been banned for supporting Giuliani and even Mitt Romney, is also considered by filthy smut merchant to be the perfect place to peddle his wares..."

Rolling my eyes.

Bad behavior will always exist, and bad things will always happen -- despite being liberal or conservative.

If you were consistent, Bea, then you'd say that what Rekers did is simply genetic and so all is excused. And, in fact, kids in schools should be taught to call Rent-A-Boy!

Ho ho ho.

I speak for myself and I sure don't need you putting words in my mouth.

Apparently you think it's genetic to spend a lifetime living a lie and make a career of denigrating LGBT people with the hope of shaming them into living that same lie -- except on business trips, of course. < wink wink >

I have been been consistent in my views. You can't change a person's sexual orientation but you can harm them, and people who are attracted to either gender are bisexual.
