Hot Enough For You?

A story from CNS News, February 9, 2010:
CNSNews.com) – The family of Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) had some fun at former Vice President and global warming spokesman Al Gore’s expense over the weekend after record snowfall blanketed the nation’s capital.

The family spent Saturday and Sunday building an igloo near the U.S. Capitol building, and the Oklahoma senator posted photos of their handiwork on his Facebook page. They added signs to the snow dwelling that read, “AL GORE’S NEW HOME!” and “HONK IF YOU (LOVE) GLOBAL WARMING.” Sen. Inhofe’s Family Builds Igloo for Global Warming Spokesman Al Gore in Snow-laden D.C.

Isn't global warming just the funniest thing?

It's too hot today to go out and see how Inhofe's igloo is holding up. I have the feeling it may have melted by now.

Heat-Related Deaths In Oklahoma Now Stands At 5

"OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The number of heat-related deaths in Oklahoma this summer now stands at five, with eight more possible cases pending.

Spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard at the state medical examiner's office said Friday that the latest confirmed death due to the heat is a 25-year-old Tulsa man. Ballard says the man died July 19 after working at a construction site that day.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa reports the high that day was 102 degrees.

Ballard says the death toll could rise to 13. She says autopsies are pending on eight more cases of possible heat-related deaths."

Excessive heat kills more Americans than hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, floods and earthquakes combined, according to Center for Disease Control statistics for 1979 to 2003. In 2001 alone, 300 people died due to heat exposure.

Weather and climate are too different concepts. Lots of global warming denialists forget this.

Northern California weather has been wonderful! The hills remained lush green for an extra two months, the weather was milder, there was plenty of rain (and not all at once, either,) and summer -- well, we have our hot days, but fewer of them than previously, and more cooler days. Northern California weather has been blessed these last two years.

Yes, I heard the waterfalls in the Sierras are fantastic this year.

Of course, a few people drowned at Vernal Falls as a result but only someone like Aunt "Mrs Sunshine" Bea would try to alter the awesome beauty of nature.

Around here, I love the heat this year. Reminds of the summers we use to have when I was a kid.

Summers have been too cool the last few years.

Taking long walks "alter the awesome beauty of nature" a whole lot less than sitting in a sauna with a bunch of naked ladies, Anon.

It's a lot less expensive too.

Go ask Theresa.

2010 Heat Related Fatalities

There were a total of 138 heat related deaths in the US in 2010, with 105 of those occuring among those over age 50.

Check out the causes of weather related deaths in the US. Over the past 30 years, the number one weather related killer in the US has been heat.

I've got a nice free-of-charge sauna available in my yard today if anyone's interested.

it's funny how old the cold snaps never prove a long-term trend to warming alarmists and yet, when we finally get some warm weather, well, they've been warning us for years

we're coping fine

meanwhile, hard as it is to believe, another Democrat in Congress is involved in a sex scandal

some social scientist should do a study on the apparent connection between socialism and sleaze:

"PORTLAND, Ore. — Congressman David Wu is facing calls for his resignation over a young woman's reported accusation that she had an "unwanted sexual encounter" with the Democrat.

The allegation seemed to be boiling into yet another sex scandal confronting a member of the Democratic caucus in Congress. It comes a month after Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., stepped down after getting caught sending suggestive pictures of himself on his Twitter account.

Late Friday, the 56-year-old Wu issued a one-sentence statement about The Oregonian's report: "This is very serious, and I have absolutely no desire to bring unwanted publicity, attention or stress to a young woman and her family."

Pressure was building on Wu to publicly address the allegation. There were also calls for his resignation.

"I'm saddened to hear this news. David owes the citizens he represents a detailed explanation," said State Rep. Brad Witt, who is running against Wu in the Democratic primary next spring. "If this accusation proves to be true, it's time for David Wu to resign and get the help he needs."

Another challenger of Wu in the Democratic primary, state Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian, said Saturday Wu should resign immediately.

"I think any 56-year-old man, especially a 56-year-old Congressman, that asserts himself like this on an 18-year-old girl, has got no business serving in Congress," Avakian said at a news conference. "There is nothing that can be explained that makes this situation right. He's got to resign.""

this week, Congress will pass a short-term debt ceiling increase with the cuts both sides have already agreed on and with no tax increases

both sides have agreed the debt ceiling should be raised and spending cut

the only difference is: should we raise taxes?

so, for the good of the country, we should pass what everyone has agreed on and leave the disputed part as a topic for the 2012 election

of course, Obama doesn't want that because he knows that if the voters become part of the conversation, he will lose

so, he says he will veto a debt ceiling bill without tax increases

so Bohener will call his bluff

and Obama, already in the running for worst President OF ALL TIME, will have an opportunity to seal the deal

it's going to be fun!!

latest from Pew Research:

"As the country enters into the 2012 presidential election cycle, the electorate's partisan affiliations have shifted significantly since Obama won office nearly three years ago. In particular, the Democrats hold a much narrower edge than they did in 2008, particularly when the partisan leanings of independents are taken into account.

Notably, the GOP gains have occurred among white voters; a two-point Republican edge among whites in 2008 (46% to 44%) has widened to a 13-point lead today (52% to 39%).

While Republican gains in leaned party identification span nearly all subgroups of whites, they are particularly pronounced among the young. A seven-point Democratic advantage among whites younger than age 30 three years ago has turned into an 11-point GOP advantage today."

This is Obama at his most sanctimonious, demagogic, self-righteous and arrogant. And given the baseline it wasn't a pretty sight. Look, he started out by summoning the leaders of Congress -- summoning them -- at 11:00. Who does he think he is? In the American system, the executive and Congress are coequal. In a banana republic, the caudillo will summon the members of the Congress. The way he demanded their appearance in the Oval Office was disgraceful. The branches are coequal.

Second, on this issue he said "We have set forth a plan." He has set forth nothing. Nor has the Democratic controlled Senate. The Republicans offered a detailed plan. The Ryan plan in the House, and they offered Cut, Cap and Balance this time around. The President has offered nothing except he says if you go in the back room now my staff will give you a tick-tock of everything I'm supposed to have given. He has never once spoken about real cuts.

And lastly, what was interesting is even at this late date where he says that the fate of the republic hangs on the debt ceiling extension, he said if given a short extension of, say, half a year I won't except it. Why? because he says I want this to go past election day.

That is entirely self-serving and political, and he pretends he's the one who's not interested in politics.

What was disgraceful was the GOP walking away from the bargaining table without compromising to get something passed again and again.

As long as they continue to say no to reducing the deficit by raising one dollar in revenue for every three dollar in spending cuts, they will rightly take the blame for what comes after we run out of money.

the blame is all Obama's

Republicans have compromised by agreeing to lift the debt ceiling and cutting military spending

neither Obama nor the Democrats in Congress have made any proposals

there is enough agreed to by both sides to avert disaster

the rest can be decided at the ballot box

it's telling, however, bringing it to the voters is so feared by Democrats

regardless of polls and the media hype, the truth is that Dems know Americans don't support them

we know that gay agenda advocates always avoid bringing their issues to the voting public

but it's also as true with the rest of the liberal agenda

a fair and open discussion is the enemy of the liberals
