Cohen Gone From PFOX

I noticed the other day at Ex-GayWatch, they referred to Richard Cohen as the "former" president of PFOX. Well, you know me, I don't exactly keep up with these things. But today they followed up with a little explanation.

So here's the scuttlebutt from Ex-GayWatch:
While recently investigating two articles about or by PFOX, Ex-Gay Watch sought to determine if Richard Cohen remained president of the organization. Cohen is most well known for touch or "cuddle" therapy as well as having patients emotionally strike pillows with a tennis raquet. After demonstrating these techniques in a string of circus-like mainstream (and not so mainstream) media appearances, Cohen's name disappeared from PFOX's website rather unceremoniously.

Ex-Gay Watch emailed Regina Griggs, PFOX's executive director nearly two weeks ago and more recently Warren Throckmorton seeking an explanation. Throckmorton responded: (printed here with permission)
I decided to stop working with PFOX for one main reason: Richard Cohen's media appearances (CNN, Jimmie Kimmel and Howard Stern). I like Regina and others with PFOX so I did not make the decision easily. He is not now on the board which I suspect is a delayed fall out of his decisions to demonstrate his techniques publicly. Nothing has changed as far as my relationship with them however.

So ... I guess Richard Cohen was too nutty for PFOX.

Oh yeah. They have straightened out a few like Richard Cohen, the pillow-whacking, boy-hugging kook they fired as PFOX President. He's a great example of the 200 subjects in Spitzer's study.

Cohen's a Moonie who was permanently expelled from the American Counseling Association for ethical violations. He told the Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/15/AR2005081501063.html?nav=rss_health) he collects $150 an hour for "individual therapy...under the auspices of the International Healing Foundation, a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization he founded in 1990...He is not licensed as a therapist...He circumvents the licensing requirement by asking for donations to his foundation."

Hasn't the IRS found this guy yet? Earnings for conducting therapy are taxable. Donations to non-profits aren't.

SANTA ANA – A middle school teacher has been charged with sexual assaulting two male students, prosecutors said Thursday.
Hugh Scott Wilson, 47, of Fullerton was being held on $1 million bail on four counts of lewd acts upon a child and eight counts of oral copulation of a minor, the Orange County district attorney's office said in a statement.

Wilson, who was scheduled to be arraigned Friday, could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors alleged Wilson, a teacher at Washington Middle School in La Habra, molested two boys when they stayed after school to help on class projects.

Prosecutors said one boy was molested between January 1999 and December 2000. The second boy was molested between January 2002 and July 2005, continuing after the student had graduated.

Prosecutors also alleged Wilson sent the boys sexually explicit e-mails. Both were between the ages of 12 and 14 when the molestation occurred, prosecutors said.

Child sexual abuse...Scarred for life!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sexual abuse of children is perhaps the most gruesome, heinous crime plauging the society in general and humanity in particular.Outraging any humans modesty is the most despicable act and children in their impressionable age could be scarred for a lifetime.Child sexual abuse could be categorised into 2.,1)Paedophilia,which includes child trafficking is being debated all over the globe,a serious crime evolving into mammoth proportions.
2)Sexual abuse by family members......

Abuse by family members,or nearest relatives usually is the most closetted, unreported crime of incest,a sexual impurity in almost all parts of the world, with the victims usually withdrawn into a cocoon and avoiding contact with the everyone. The shame and disgust they experience in disclosing their plight could take a heavy toll in the form of their socio-psychological behaviour, manifestations of which last a lifetime.Developed countries are often exemplified for such grossly reprehensible, abominable deeds, but the fact is even in traditional, conservative to the root countries like India where people often take a mental comfort in insolently and uppishly believing in its non-existence,this category of child abuse has always existed in reality.

This crime behind the closed doors has trangressed not just nature's laws but also through various strata of society. This week India woke up to the shockingly repellant news of a father immorally, brutally raping his two teenaged daughters over a period of time and the incident came to light with the girls confiding in their mother. This is not an isolated or stray grim incident and such ugly tales of woes have unfortuantelty persisted in our society for over decades.

What could be a solution to abort such acts of shame from its nip??A father abusing his child could be because of a marital discord or the abuse could lead to a marital discord, such couple need to be counselled periodically. It may not be easy to curb this menace but a protective, safe environment for a kid is where they are given rights to voice and confide their opinions in a de-congested,unsuffocating family atmosphere.Injunctions/Laws punishing such abusers should be made stricter, severely punishable offence.

Every human has a fundamental right to live with honour and dignity and children are no exception.peace.....

Abstract

Sexual assault on children and adolescents has become a common topic of study, but there has been little research into the specific characteristics of the population of male victims. A national survey representative of school-age adolescents in France enabled us to study 465 adolescents reporting sexual assault (121 boys, 344 girls; mean age 15.4, SD 2.5 years). Girls were shown to be more frequently affected by certain medico-psychological symptoms: nightmares, multiple somatic complaints and some items concerning mood disorders. On the other hand, behavioural symptoms were much more frequently expressed in boys, in particular: repeated suicide attempts, running away, fits of violence and substance use. Boys presenting these symptoms should be questioned as a matter of routine concerning a history of sexual assault.

Sexual Violence: Fact Sheet
OCCURRENCE
...

-About 2 out of 1000 children in the United States were confirmed by child protective service agencies as having experienced sexual assault in 2003 (DHHS 2005). See child maltreatment fact sheet for more information.
-Among high school youth nationwide:
--About 9% of students reported that they had been forced to have sexual intercourse.
--Female students are more likely than male students to report sexual assault (11.9% vs. 6.1%).
--Overall, 12.3% of Black students, 10.4% of Hispanic students, and 7.3% of White students reported that they had been forced to have sexual intercourse (CDC 2004).
-Among college students nationwide, between 20% and 25% of women reported experiencing completed or attempted rape (Fisher, Cullen, and Turner 2000).
-Among adults nationwide:
--More than 300,000 women (0.3%) and over 90,000 men (0.1%) reported being raped in the previous 12 months.
--One in six women (17%) and one in thirty-three men (3%) reported experiencing an attempted or completed rape at some time in their lives.
--Rape usually occurs more than once. Among adults who report being raped, women experienced 2.9 rapes and men experienced 1.2 rapes in the previous year (Tjaden and Thoennes 2000)...

You are all telling me something about yourself first you are all narsisitic all you think about is yourself that is tipical of homosexuals you also think that everyone is like that. in your world view everyone is just like you. self absorbed. nobody denies that girls are sexualy assaulted. TTF seams to think that boys are not. it is often ignored. and it is homosexuals and bysexuals who are doing it. which makes it important to this discussion. I think that you all are trying to dodge the issue and the fact that this is a problem in the gay rights movement. Why is it that you always try to steer the discussion from the homosexual child molesters and discuss the sexual abuse of girls? as for 4year old boys that is the age most likly to be sexualy assaulted and sodimied by a gay man.

Sexual Assault of Young Children as Reported to Law Enforcement: Victim, Incedent, and Offender Characteristics

There's no indication of gender in the statistic you cite, but thanks for this fine example of cherry picking.

Here's the URL for the report you cited *one* statistic from:

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/saycrle.pdf

Here's the full paragraph (on Page 2) that you cherry picked from:

The victim age distribution differed with the nature of the offense (figure 2). The risk of being the victim of forcible rape increased dramatically from age 10 to age 14, where it peaked. By age 20, the risk had dropped to less than half the peak 14-year-old rate, and dropped to a 10th of the 14-year-old peak by age 40. For the other types of sexual assault, the victim age curves had two peaks, one (as in forcible rape) around age 13 or 14 and the other around age 4. The risk of being the victim of forcible sodomy peaked at age 4. By age 11 the risk of forcible sodomy dropped to half the peak rate, then increased for a couple of years through age 13, before falling to a 10th of the peak rate by the early 20s. The risk of being the victim of sexual assault with an object peaked at ages 3 and 4, then fell to less than half the peak rate by age 8. After age 8 the risk of sexual assault with an object increased through age 14 to almost
three-fourths the 3- and 4-year-old peak, and then dropped to a 10th of the peak rate by the mid-20s. The risk of forcible fondling, the other high volume sex assault offense along with forcible rape, first peaked at age 4, dropped marginally through the pre-teen years, and then increased to its absolute peak for victims age 13. After age 13, the risk of forcible fondling dropped precipitously, so that by age 24 the risk was a 10th of that of 13-year-olds.

On Page 4 of the 2000 report by Dr. Snyder, there is a section calledGender of sexual assault victims which states:

Females were more than six times as likely as males to be the victims of sexual assaults known to law enforcement agencies. More specifically, 86% of all victims of sexual assault were female. The relative proportion of female victims generally increased with age. Sixty-nine percent of victims under age 6 were female, compared with 73% of victims under age 12, and 82% of all juvenile (under age 18) victims. The female proportion of sexual assault victims reached 90% at age 13 and 95% at age 19 (figure 3).

Nearly all forcible rapes (99%) involved a female victim (table 2).2 Females were the large majority of victims in incidents of sexual assault with an object (87%) and forcible fondling (82%). In contrast, the majority of victims of forcible sodomy (54%) were males. In general, across all specific offense categories, the proportion of female victims increased with the age of the victim. A greater percentage of juvenile sexual assault victims were male (18%) than were adult sexual assault victims (4%). Males were 15% of the juvenile victims of sexual assault with an object, 20% of the juvenile victims of forcible fondling, and 59% of the juvenile victims of forcible sodomy. For victims under age 12, the male proportions were even greater: sexual assault with an object (19%), forcible fondling (26%), and forcible sodomy (64%).

Based on the NIBRS data, the year in a male’s life when he is most likely to be the victim of a sexual assault is age 4 (figure 4). By age 17 his risk of victimization has been cut by a factor of 5. A female’s year of greatest risk is age 14. Her risk drops to half the peak level by age 17 and to a fifth of the peak level by age 27. At his peak victimization age of 4, a male’s risk of sexual assault victimization is just half that
of females of the same age. In the later juvenile years (ages 14 to 17), the female victimization rates are at least 10 times greater than the male rates for similar age groups.

The way I'm reading these results, there are people who molest children, and they don't care whether it's a boy or a girl. As children get older they become less attractive to that kind of pervert.

Once a kid has hit puberty or so, they are sexually mature, if not psychologically, and they get hit on by adults who are unscrupulous but who are not interested in children per se.

It makes sense to me, though I don't know the terminology for these things, to talk of those who prey on young teens as being homosexual or heterosexual and lacking self-control or conscience, and those who molest younger children as simply being pedophiles, attracted to little children without regard to their sex. This explains why boy and girl children's statistics are more similar at age 4, and diverge in their teens, where because most sexual predators are heterosexual, girl's victim rates go was higher than boy's. It also explains the bimodality of the statistics, with modes at four and fourteen. (And after that age, kids learn to protect themselves and be careful, thus rates drop above 14 ...)

But why are we talking about this?

Why are we talking about this?

Because Anon repeatedly brings up his obsession, the sexual abuse of children.

What did I prove by posting all of the data that had been omitted?

That Anon cherry picked one item to discus out of context and has never expressed concern about the sexual abuse of young girls even though the fact is girls are twice as likely as boys to be sexually abused at age 4:

"At his peak victimization age of 4, a male’s risk of sexual assault victimization is just half that of females of the same age."

Anonymous, the fact is that gay men are attracted to masculinity and that only comes with age. Heterosexual men who abuse young boys do so precisely because of the femininity of the young boys and their lack of secondary sexual characteristics. Thats why the assaults on boys drop off dramatically as they age, the perpetrators are attracted to the softness of the child, not his gender.

Dr. Carole Jenny was the director of the Child Advocacy and Protection Team at Denver's Childrens Hospital, and she also directed medical programs at the C. Henry Kempe National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. Dr. Jenny and her colleagues reviewed 269 medical records of Denver-area children who were sexually abused by adults. Of 50 male children, 37 (74%) were molested by men who had been in a heterosexual relationship with the child’s relative. Three were molested by women, five were molested by both parents, and three others were molested by non-relatives. Only one perpetrator could be identified as being possibly homosexual in his adult behavior.23

23. Jenny, Carole; Roesler, Thomas A.; Poyer, Kimberly L. “Are children at risk for sexual abuse by homosexuals?” Pediatrics 94, no. 1 (1994): 41-44. Abstract available online at http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/abstract/94/1/41.

Let’s consider what this means. Of these men who abused boys in this study all but one would have answered “no” to the question “Are you gay?” And not only did they say they were not gay, they were married, had girlfriends, or were otherwise known to have sexual relationships with women. If law enforcement had been looking for the perpetrators among gay men, they never would have found them. They would have missed 49 of these 50 sexual predators because they would have been hidden among the 97% who say they are not gay.

Dr. Jenny and her associates concluded that even if you use the worst case possibilities in their sample, no more than 3.1% of child sexual abuse cases reported to the Denver clinic were abused by someone who could be identified as possibly being gay, a proportion that closely matches the proportion of openly gay men and women overall.

Two Types of Predators
As surprising as this may be, it only confirmed what Dr. Nicholas Groth demonstrated many years earlier. Dr. Groth was a leading pioneer in the field of child sex abuse, having treated more than 500 sex offenders by 1982.24

24. Groth, A. Nicholas; Hobson, William F.; Gary, Thomas S. “The child molester: clinical observations.” In Social Work and Child Sexual Abuse. Edited by Jon R. Conte and David A. Shore. (New York: Haworth Press. 1982): 129-144.

In 1978, he and Dr. Jean Birnbaum published a study of 175 convicted male child molesters in which they found:

The child offender is a relatively young adult either who has been sexually attracted to underage persons almost exclusively in his life or who turns to a child as a result of stresses in his adult sexual or marital relationships. Those offenders who are sexually attracted exclusively to children show a slight preference for boys over girls, yet these same individuals are uninterested in adult homosexual relationships. In fact, they frequently express a strong sexual aversion to adult males.25

25. Groth, A. Nicholas; Birnbaum, H Jean. “Adult sexual orientation and attraction to underage persons.” Archives of Sexual Behavior 7 no. 3 (1978): 175-181. Abstract available online at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=666571

Dr. Groth identified two classic types of child molesters that he labeled fixated and regressed.26 The fixated molester is one whose development is “fixated” at childhood. In other words, he has never grown up. He typically lives a Peter-Pan existence, in a Neverland of childlike identity and behavior. He doesn’t form adult relationships easily, or if he does, the relationships tend not to be very stable. Instead, he sees children as his peers. Other adults often see him as being “very good with children”, which allows him to obtain a position of trust as a role model, leader, or caretaker.

With his primary sexual interest in children and not adults, the fixated offender fits the classic definition of a “pedophile.” And because he is fixated on children, he cannot properly be considered to be either heterosexual or homosexual — he often finds adults of either sex repulsive.

On the other hand, the regressed molester is very different. His attraction to children is usually more temporary. Unlike the fixated molester, the regressed molester’s primary sexual attraction is toward other adults. But stressful conditions that go along with adult responsibly or difficulties in his adult relationships may overwhelm him, causing his sexual focus to “regress” towards children. This regression sometimes serves as a substitute for adult relationship, and his attraction to children may vary according to the varying stresses he encounters in his adult life demands.

In some cases, he may temporarily relate to the child as a peer, much as a fixated offender relates to children. But more often, he is simply lashing out against the stresses in his life, and the child becomes a convenient target. The offender may find a sense of power in his sexual relationship with a child that he doesn't get with an adult. When that happens this relationship with the child is often violent. But regardless of the nature of the relationship, the gender of the child is often irrelevant — it’s the easy access and vulnerability that makes the child a target.

Regressed offenders are typically heterosexual in their adult relationships. Unlike our three percent sample, they date women and marry them. They often are parents, stepparents or extended family members of their victims. By all appearances — and by their own self-identification — they are straight. Drs. Groth and Birnbaum emphasized this point, saying:

In over 12 years of clinical experience working with child molesters, we have yet to see any example of a regression from an adult homosexual orientation. The child offender who is also attracted to and engaged in adult relationships is heterosexual.27

27. Groth, A. Nicholas; Birnbaum, H. Jean. “Adult sexual orientation and attraction to underage persons.” Archives of Sexual Behavior 7, no. 3 (1978): 175-181. Abstract available online at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=666571

While Drs. Groth and Birnbaum were emphatic on this point, there’s no reason to believe that there’s no such thing as someone who is engaged in homosexual adult relationships while also molesting children. Surely they’re out there. I don’t think any group of fallible human beings can claim perfect innocence on this. But the experts generally agree: the phenomenon is rare.

Are These “Straight” Abusers Lying?
You’re probably shaking your head right about now. Why would a man who claims to be straight molest young boys? How could he not be gay, even if he refuses to admit it?

This contradiction concerned Dr. Kurt Freund and his associates at the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry in Toronto, where many convicted sexual predators were sent for treatment. Using an instrument connected to the subject’s penis, Dr. Freund and his colleagues measured changes in its volume while the subject looked at pictures of nude men, women and children.

These phallometric (penis-measuring) tests, while controversial for many reasons,28 supported the conclusion that as a group overall, gay men were no more likely to respond sexually to male children than straight men. Furthermore these tests supported these sex offenders’ statements when they claimed to be gay or straight:

These studies show that only rarely are sex offenders against male children diagnosed as androphiles [homosexual in adult orientation] and that phallometric diagnosis of gynophilic [heterosexual in adult orientation] and androphilic volunteers almost always corresponds to their claimed erotic preference.29

29. Freund, Kurt; Watson, Robin J.; Rienzo, Douglas. “Heterosexuality, homosexuality, and the erotic age preference.” Journal of Sex Research 26, no. 1 (1989): 107-117.

So, they are telling the truth — at least according to how they responded physically to the nude pictures.30 When they say they are straight, they respond to pictures of adult women, and when they say they are gay, they respond sexually to pictures of adult men. Yet Dr. Freund determined that gays are less attracted to young boys than straights.

How Could “Straight” Men Be Attracted To Boys?
If these molesters aren’t lying when they say they’re straight, why would they abuse boys? What could possibly be the attraction?

Dr. W.L. Marshall and his colleagues conducted a similar set of phallometric tests on a sample of gay and straight men, except this time they used more photos of young boys and girls covering a wider age span. They noticed that for those gay men who were attracted to males under 18, they tended to be attracted to young men who were well past the age of puberty (age 15 or older), with fully-developed adult genitalia and other features that were characteristically masculine. But when heterosexual men showed an attraction towards younger males, they tended to be attracted to pre-pubescent males (ages 9-11):

Amongst the heterosexuals, the commonest remarks concerning attractive features of the victims, were that the young boys did not have any body hair and that their bodies were soft and smooth.31

31. Marshal, W.L.; Barbaree, H.E.; Butt, Jennifer. “Sexual offenders against male children: Sexual preferences.” Behaviour Research and Therapy 26, no. 5 (1988): 383-391

This explains the apparent contradiction of straight men abusing young boys. They really are straight – they’re responding to the feminine qualities of pre-pubescent boys, qualities that gay men didn’t find appealing. After all, gay men are, by definition, attracted to men; the feminine characteristics of young boys were a turn-off to them.

Yeah, go ahead anonymous, hide from the research because you don't like what it says - heterosexual men molest pre-pubescent boys because they are feminine. When gay men are attracted to males under 18 they're attracted to males well past puberty. A man is not bisexual because he's attracted to adult females and "feminine" little boys, he's bisexual because he's attracted to females and males well past puberty. Men who are attracted to pre-pubescent little boys are attracted to their softness and lack of hair, their femininity. "The child offender who is also attracted to and engaged in adult relationships is heterosexual."27

I'm not sure what your fascination with Oscar Wilde is, but he wasn't into pre-pubescent boys. However, I certainly do wonder about your obsession over sex with pre-pubescent boys.

Up above, where it talks to Hugh Wilson molesting two boys, I was one of them. And it did not turn me gay, to answer your question.
