Cameron Collaborator List Getting Huge

One thing we have had to deal with for the past two and a half years is the citing of fake research by the Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum and their allies. They will pull statistics out (I'm not saying where they pull them out of) that prove every negative stereotype of gay people. And then when you go to the actual research, you find there is just no correspondence. The real science, real medicine, don't support the anti-gay stereotype; there are people, and some of the them are gay. If they have a special medical problem or need special attention, OK, so do all groups -- men, blacks, women, immigrants, short people, they all need special consideration of some kind.

And you think -- where do these guys find this "research" that they refer to?

The answer is usually pretty straightforward: Paul Cameron. This one guy has been responsible for more anti-gay fake-facts than anybody. For decades he's been distorting the data or simply making it up; his writing is a travesty of real research and an embarrassment to the scientific establishment. He has been expelled from the American Psychological Association, and had a resolution passed against him by the American Sociological Association. The Canadian Psychological Association approved a position statement disavowing Cameron's work on sexuality, saying that he had "consistently misinterpreted and misrepresented research on sexuality, homosexuality, and lesbianism." He quotes extensively from Nazi tracts and his organization, the Family Research Institute, is labeled by the Southern Povery Law Center as a "hate group."

Our friend Alvin McEwen, who sometimes comments on the Teach The Facts Yahoo group, is about to publish a book revealing the sources and the stories-behind-the-stories of many of the "studies" cited by the CRC and others to support their anti-gay viewpoints. His book, Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters, which dwells extensively on the influence of Paul Cameron, should be out this year.

Meanwhile, Box Turtle Bulletin started a list of people and organizations that have relied on Cameron's work. Mentioning Cameron's writing, citing his words as factual, is a very solid clue that somebody has disengaged from reality in order to advance the cause of anti-gay bigotry. I checked it out when he first started it, and it was impressive.

But wow.

Go look at that page. This is a real eye-opener. I'm not counting, but there must be a close to two hundred articles cited here.

It is amazing that one hateful guy can have this kind of effect in the world. I mean, OK, Cameron hates gays, quotes Nazis, thinks everybody who is HIV-positive should be tattooed, he's a nut. One guy. So why are all these people quoting him?

Unfortunately you can't just wait for this kind of thing to go away on its own. Reasonable people have to speak up.

Once again we see that science must be subjugated to family values and not vice the versa:

"In a big step toward a long-sought goal, three teams of scientists say they’ve produced the equivalent of embryonic stem cells, at least in mice, without taking the controversial step of destroying embryos.

Their procedure makes ordinary skin cells behave like stem cells. If the same can be done with human cells, the procedure could lead to breakthrough medical treatments without the contentious ethical and political debates surrounding the use of embryos.

Stem cells can give rise to all types of tissue, so experts believe they might be used to create transplant therapies for people who are paralyzed or have ilnesses ranging from diabetes to Parkinson’s disease."

We never need to corrupt ourselves by compromising our values to serve the demands of scientific progress. Science is our servant- not our master. Listen to the poet:

Well, he worships

at the altar

of a stagnant pool.

And his brain

has been mismanaged

with great skill.

All his believes are his eyes,

and his eyes

just tell him lies.

But there's a woman

on my block,

who sits there as the night grows still

and says

who's

gonna take away

his license to kill.

I think that the recent controversy about our surgeon general nominee illustrates how easy it is for those who have a religious objection to homosexuality can be persuaded to believe all sorts fallicous information about gays and lesbians. That's why Cameron has had such success.

One more thing - thanks for the mention about my upcoming book. Anyone wanting to read an excerpt from it can go to http://www.freewebs.com/holybulliesandheadlessmonsters/

Views on Homosexuality
While Dr. Holsinger was Chancellor of the University of Kentucky Medical Center, The Women's Health Center held a session on lesbian health during the fifth Women's Health in Kentucky conference. University of Kentucky officials said that a session on lesbian health issues was requested on evaluations. Although two state senators had harsh criticism for the break out session, Dr. Holsinger stated, "I appreciate the concern of individuals, but I think it's important to educate health-care professionals on the issues that surround lesbians. It's important professionals have the knowledge base to care for these patients in a quality manner (Blackford 2002)."

Holsinger has been active in the United Methodist Church. As a member of its Judicial Council, the highest judicial body within the UMC, he joined with the majority in a controversial decision arising from the attempt to remove an openly lesbian pastor from her post. On April 29, 2004, by a vote of six to three, the Council ruled:

Since the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teaching, self-avowed practicing homosexuals are not to be accepted as candidates, ordained as ministers, or appointed to serve in The United Methodist Church. [5]

In 1991, Holsinger had resigned from a 4 year UMC panel on homosexuality; Time reported that "James Holsinger ... quit the study committee last February because he felt certain its conclusions would follow liberal lines." [6]

Holsinger is named as the sole author of a 1991 white paper entitled “Pathophysiology of Male Homosexuality,” ostensibly prepared for the Committee to Study Homosexuality of the United Methodist Church. The article's argument repeated refers to the "absolutely separation" of the alimentary and reproductive tracts. Holsinger describes numerous health problems of the "homosexual lifestyle" based on their violation of this separation. He concludes the paper with

The logical complementarity of the human sexes has been so recognized in our culture that it has entered our vocabulary in the form of naming various pipe fittings either the male pipe fitting or the female pipe fitting depending upon which one interlocks within the other. When the complementarity of the sexes is breached, injuries and disease may occur as noted above. Therefore, based on the simplest known anatomy and physiology, when dealing with the complementarity of the human sexes, one can simply say, Res ipsa loquitur - the thing speaks for itself! [sic]

– Dr. James W Holsinger, Jr., MD[1]

According to the President of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, Robert Garofalo, MD, MPH, “while the treatise purportedly cites medical texts to argue that sex between persons of the same gender is medically inadvisable, it does not represent the current medical science.”[2]

The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association and other LGBT Health organizations have expressed public concern[3] [4][5]regarding Dr. Holsinger’s association with a church which supports efforts to change sexual orientation, the Hope Springs Community Church in Lexington, Kentucky, which “ministers to people who no longer wish to be gay or lesbian,” according to its pastor, Rev. David Calhoun. [6]

Oh yeah. Anyone who doesn't meet the approval of President of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, Robert Garofalo, MD-extraordinaire, should just spend their remaining days quietly with their family.

Don't make me laugh.

"Any guesses on when Bush will pardon Scooter?"

Should be soon. Justice requires it.

Read Mr. Holsinger's paper.

He makes a specious argument that "gay sex" - i.e. anal sex is wrong while at the same time admitting that heterosexuals engage in anal sex.

Of course he gives heterosexuals engaging in anal sex a pass so to speak. The bulk of his paper talks about how gays having anal sex is wrong and dangerous because "the parts don't fit."

That doesn't sound objective to me.

Anonymous apparently never stopped to think that the only people doing same sex loving aren't the ones complaining about about a lack of "complementarity". If the ones doing it are happy what business is it of yours?

Holsinger is in conflict with every major mental and physical health association when it comes to gays - he has no business even being considered for surgeon general. Of course its been typical of Bush for a long time to pick the most and unqualified incompetent person around and give them high level positions, so this is hardly a surprise. As long as you're a religious fanatic it doesn't matter if your a loser.

And regarding Scooter, I'm with anonymous, I can't wait for Bush to pardon him. It'll be another gross miscarriage of justice Bush is responsible for and will help push the Republicans farther down the toilet.

It may come as a surprise to you fanatics but politically correct pronouncements about homosexuality isn't the only concern of "every major mental and physical health association". You notice none of them are concerned about our next Surgeon General's views.

Or is "President of the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, Robert Garofalo, MD-extraordinaire" a mainstreamer to the lunatic fringe?

"he has no business even being considered for surgeon general."

Well, since you're not an American citizen, it's really none of your bee's wax.

"Of course its been typical of Bush for a long time to pick the most and unqualified incompetent person around and give them high level positions, so this is hardly a surprise."

Bush didn't appoint the new Democratic Coward Congress. You're confused.

"As long as you're a religious fanatic it doesn't matter if your a loser."

Consider the source of this statement. Randi thinks religion is the cause of all the world's trouble and Jesus is a Nazi. I think the ozone musta disappeared over Canada.

You're in for a surprise. Most Americans are sick to death of independent counsels and the ceaseless interogation of White House staff, basically creating its own violations.

Just the other day, TTF was complaining about the millions of non-dnagerous people in prison. Now, TTF official policy is to gloat over the preposterous sentence to Scooter Libby.

Libby is a first-time offender convicted of a non-violent crime.

Contrast with Bill Clinton's National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger who stole documents from the National Archives, destroyed them and, then, lied to investigators.

He got no jail time and one-tenth the fine that Libby did.

Commute Libby's sentence and impeach the judge who imposed it.

Justice- a cause worth standing in the rain for.

Move over, Roe v Wade. The latest liberal judicial litmus test is whether a nominee is willing to repudiate the phrase "homosexual lifestyle".

The nomination of Leslie Southwick to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is being held up, not because he uttered or wrote this phrase, but because he joined an opinion that included the phrase.

I don't know about everyone else but I'm so glad the Jackass Party won control of Congress last year. I think it makes 2008 a cakewalk for the Pachyderms.

Yes he did.

"According to trial transcripts obtained by Truthout, former White House staffer I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby testified before a grand jury in 2004 that Vice President Dick Cheney instructed him to divulge portions of a then-classified report to New York Times reporter Judith Miller. Libby testified that Cheney said authorization to leak a section of the report had come directly from President George W. Bush, the court transcripts state.

The document, titled the National intelligence Estimate, was officially declassified on July 18, 2003. However Libby testified before the grand jury in March 2004 that he had received instructions from Cheney on July 8, 2003, to release portions of the report to Judith Miller.

"The vice president instructed me to go talk to Judith Miller to lay things out for her," Libby said, according to court transcripts. Libby added that President Bush did not know Judith Miller, but authorized Libby to share the NIE with her. Miller did not publish a story based on the information Libby leaked to her.

Libby testified that the leak of the NIE to Miller was aimed at undermining the credibility of former ambassador Joseph Wilson, who on July 6, 2003, wrote an op-ed for the New York Times accusing the Bush administration of "twisting" pre-war intelligence on Iraq. Wilson's stinging rebuke of the administration led Libby and other White House officials to leak Wilson's wife's covert CIA status to reporters one week later.

Libby said, according to the court transcript, that the leak of the NIE on July 8, 2003, was a closely guarded secret and that only he, Vice President Dick Cheney, and President Bush were aware that some of its contents would be leaked.

Libby testified that the White House discussed on a daily basis Wilson's accusations that the administration had manipulated pre-war intelligence regarding Iraq. Those conversations included President Bush, Libby testified, according to the court transcript. Libby testified that his own handwritten notes indicate that President Bush wanted him to speak with reporters and to rebut Wilson's charges."

As a global citizen my concern for what's right and good knows no artificial boundaries and what goes on in the State is at least as much my business as what goes on in Iraq is yours.

Never said either of those things. Relgion is the cause of much of he world's problems, but certainly not all of it. And Jesus wasn't a Nazi, he was a fictional character invented by primitive bronze age tribesmen to give false authority to their politics such as anti-semitism.

http://rawstory.com/news/2007/Bush_Surgeon_Gen._pick_criticised_for_0607.html

On Thursday, ABC News reported that President Bush's nominee for surgeon-general, Dr. James Holsinger, may be in trouble because of his "homophobic statements."

"A confirmation fight is exactly what the administration does not need," says commentator David Gergen. "There has been a growing criticism of the administration favoring ideology over competence and this nomination smacks of that."

Adding to Holsinger's problems, ABC concludes, the committee which will consider his nomination is chaired by Senator Ted Kennedy, a supporter of gay rights, and includes among its members presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Chris Dodd.

Senator Obama (D-IL) released the following statement Thursday morning, "America’s top doctor should be a doctor for all Americans, and so I have serious reservations about nominating someone who would inject his own anti-gay ideology into critical decisions about the health and well-being of our nation."

"As with other nominees, I will listen to the testimony of Dr. James Holsinger, but this Administration must know that the United States Surgeon General’s office is no place for bigotry or ideology that would trump sound science and good judgment," Obama's statement continued.

Republican White House Hopefuls Distance Themselves From Bush

Fresh off a debate in which several of the candidates tried to expand the gap between themselves and President Bush, Republican 2008 White House hopefuls jumped back on the campaign trail Wednesday to take another stab.

...

The GOP candidates clearly contrasted themselves with the man they hope to replace, even if it meant violating the cardinal rule of a Republican icon they routinely embrace. "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican," former President Reagan used to say.

It makes you more rediculous than Cameron himself when you post blatantly incorrect information. I may not care for him or his work, but he was never "expelled from the APA". Can you cite the other references--the ASA and CPA, please. You may hate his morals but attack his data or conclusions, not his person. His work IS published in peer-reviewed journals.

Anthony, I don't know who you are or why you are commenting on a post from nearly three years ago, but Cameron's expulsion from the APA is well documented.

Read HERE:

On December 2, 1983, the American Psychological Association sent Paul Cameron a letter informing him that he had been dropped from membership. Early in 1984, all members of the American Psychological Association received official written notice that "Paul Cameron (Nebraska) was dropped from membership for a violation of the Preamble to the Ethical Principles of Psychologists" by the APA Board of Directors.5 Cameron has posted an elaborate argument about his expulsion from APA on his website, claiming that he resigned from APA before he was dropped from membership. Like most organizations, however, APA does not allow a member to resign when they are being investigated. And even if Cameron's claims were accepted as true, it would be remarkable that the largest professional organization of psychologists in the United States (and other professional associations, as noted below) went to such lengths to disassociate itself from one individual.

Read his Wikipedia entry:
In 1983, the American Psychological Association expelled Cameron for non-cooperation with an ethics investigation, although by his own account he had resigned from the organization the previous year.

It may be arguable that he was technically not expelled because he had already quit, but you are going to have trouble convincing anybody that my statement is actually "rediculous."

I'm not going to look up the other things, I'm pretty confident in how that will turn out.

JimK
