Good Ad

This next year Maryland will almost certainly see the introduction of legislative bills to end discrimination based on gender identity and to allow Marylanders to marry the person they love regardless of whether they are the same or opposite sexes. The governor has stated that he will support both changes, it is now up to the state legislature to figure out a way to pass the bills.

This ad for marriage equality was produced in Australia. That's why the steering wheel is on the wrong side. It's a good one, check it out.

"to allow Marylanders to marry the person they love regardless of whether they are the same or opposite sexes"

if an arrangement is open to two people of the same gender who "love" each other, the appropriate term for the arangement is not marriage

Jim,

Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

Anon,

Stating your conclusion is not the same thing as defending it.

For too many kids in Maryland and all across the country, our classrooms, neighborhoods and homes aren’t places where they feel safe, cherished and respected. Children are especially vulnerable to the feelings of hopelessness and despair that bullying can cause, and many children feel like there’s no end in sight to harassment.

That’s why I partnered with seven other members of Team Maryland to reach out to young people in our state and share with them a simple but powerful message: It gets better.

This video was produced in support of the It Gets Better Project ,which was founded last year after a series of tragic suicides by LGBT youth who were bullied because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through a series of videos—more than 10,000 that have been viewed more than 35 million times—the It Gets Better Project helps youth see that a brighter future awaits them beyond adolescence and that it really will get better.

While it’s important to tell our children that it gets better, it’s even more important that we act to make it better. That’s why many of us have co-sponsored the Student Non-Discrimination Act and the Safe Schools Improvement Act, which would help make our children’s schools safer, and other legislation that celebrates and protects the rich diversity of our nation.

There’s no place for bullying or discrimination anywhere in America, and it’s up to each and every one of us to make sure that no one has to hide who they really are.

Watch the "It Gets Better" video here.

Joining Senator Cardin in the Maryland Delegation’s “It Gets Better Video” are U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski and U.S. Representatives Steny Hoyer, Chris Van Hollen, Donna Edwards, John Sarbanes,Dutch Ruppersberger and Elijah Cummings (all D-MD).

"That’s why many of us have co-sponsored the Student Non-Discrimination Act and the Safe Schools Improvement Act, which would help make our children’s schools safer,"

there's no evidence or reason to believe that such a law would accomplish that

if some kids want to go against the grain and come out as a homosexual, they should be taught coping strategies rather than expecting the government to force everyone to talk nicely to them

"and other legislation that celebrates and protects the rich diversity of our nation"

it's a matter of opinion whether widespread sexual deviance makes us richer or poorer as a society

"There’s no place for bullying or discrimination anywhere in America,"

if you're talking about verbal disapproval, which you are to a large degree, there's a right to that in every corner of America

we have free speech guaranteed to us here

"and it’s up to each and every one of us to make sure that no one has to hide who they really are"

would that include gluttons and kleptomaniacs and pedophiles too?

why is homosexuality the only undesirable trait that should receive special governmental protection against social disapproval?

There's a substantial body of research indicating that schools with enumerateded nondiscrimination policies have less harassment than those without. It's noteworthy that systems that have general non-discrimination policies do not report less harassment.

Robert, the places that tend to pass those laws are already gay-friendly

it's a common liberal error

it's similar to when a principal tells kids that those who participate in extracurricular activities have higher average grades

of course they do

otherwise, they become ineligible

similarly, gays stack the deck with their propaganda

the "bullying" that should be impermissible is physical assault and threats

and guess what?

it already is

I couldn't agree with you more, "Anonymous" ("it's a matter of opinion whether widespread sexual deviance makes us richer or poorer as a society."

All of that wife-swapping and prostitution and marital infidelity and and divorce and the humongous market for pornography and countless other forms of heterosexual deviancy are definitely eroding the moral fiber of this nation!

well, all that is really irrelevant to whether homosexuality is another color in a beautiful rainbow or another dip in the cesspool of deviance
