Over-the-Top Haters on the Radio

RightWing Watch has a fascinatingly weird segment of a radio show conversation between two anti-gay leaders. Scott Lively is the president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization located in Temecula, California, which is classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. He is best known as co-author of the book The Pink Swastika, which states that "homosexuals [are] the true inventors of Nazism and the guiding force behind many Nazi atrocities." He was also instrumental in campaigning in Uganda for the "kill the gays bill," though he says he does not actually believe people should be executed for their sexual orientation.

Peter ("Porno Pete") LaBarbera is the president of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality, which is also classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. The exchange took place on LaBarbera's radio show, the Americans for Truth Radio Hour.

Listen to this. Here is why we call them The Nutty Ones. It is hard to fathom the depth of delusion required just to keep a straight face while you are accusing your gay and lesbian neighbors of being part of what must be the most extensive and secretive conspiracy to take over the world -- evah!!!

RWR has a transcription, so I'll just copy and paste their text with only a few changes…
LaBarbera: Scott, are you saying that homosexual activists are actually trying to corrupt the minds of young people?

Lively: It can’t be, no, how can anyone say such a thing?

LaBarbera: It’s the only issue of which there is no influence at all from the older to the younger, right Scott?

Lively: The things that they scream about the loudest are the things that are the most true and the most damaging to them. The connection between homosexuality and AIDS, the connection between homosexuality and pedophilia, the recruitment of children, not just children but everyone they can get their hands on into the homosexual lifestyle, and the desire of the movement to achieve power.

LaBarbera: They are all about demonizing Christians like us, especially Christians, there’s always a special hatred for the Christians, and so like you said Scott, ‘anything it takes,’ it’s a utilitarian movement.

Lively: And the question is, why? Why do they do this? Because we stand in the way of their pursuit of the complete control of society. This isn’t about tolerance, it’s not acceptance, it isn’t even about accepting all things gay; this is about absolute control. And every place that they got it, and they do have it in some places, they use it, and they punish anyone who disagrees with them and then they begin controlling every person within their grip.

All this sounds really scary, doesn't it? Corrupting our youth, special hatred for Christians, the complete control of society …

This is a comic-book perspective where the world is a battleground between superheroes representing good and evil, and has nothing to do with the reality that some people simply, by their nature, find members of their own sex more attractive than those of the opposite sex. People who feel that way have become fed up with being misunderstood and have fought a good campaign for respect. They are not the Planet Destroyers From the Galaxy X-10, they are just people like everybody else. Nutty guys like Porno Pete and Mister Lively only deserve to be mocked.

everyone knows "the reality that some people simply...find members of their own sex more attractive than those of the opposite sex"

the problem is that the gay agenda wants to mandate everyone's opinion about that, including speech and press

they want a world where everyone who doesn't affirm homosexuality pays a heavy price

kids who don't regurgitate the gay agenda in school will be given lower grades

employees who dare to speak against the gay agenda are to be fired

employers who don't do that are to be sued

businesses that support organizations that don't agree with the gay agenda are to be boycotted

politicians, celebrities and athletes who don't support the gay agenda are to be dismissed

therapists who treat homosexuality are to be declared unethical

college students who disagree with the gay agenda are to be denied degrees in psychology

scientists who publish findings contradicting the gay agenda are to be ostracized

it's not paranoia, it's the agenda at work

the gay agenda has completely succeeded yet but this is their goal

It is time to eliminate prejudice and discrimination against LGBT people. If you want to say bigoted things about them, expect to pay a price in reputation and perhaps in your employment status. If you want to discriminate against them, expect legal repercussions. That's not an "agenda," that's just some people who expect to be treated like everybody else.

so, you want to control people's views, by whatever means necessary, which is a contradiction of what Jim was saying

the gay agenda is an attempt to control thought, speech and action by coercion, not suasion

meanwhile, the "peaceful" occupy protests continue to reveal their worldview:

"OAKLAND, Calif. — A protest that shut down the Port of Oakland to show the broadening reach of the Occupy Wall Street movement ended in violence when police in riot gear arrested dozens of protesters overnight who broke into a vacant building, shattered downtown windows, sprayed graffiti and set blazes along the way.

At least four protesters were hospitalized Thursday with various injuries, including one needing stitches after fighting with an officer, police said. Several officers were also injured but didn't need hospitalization.

"We go from having a peaceful movement to now just chaos," protester Monique Agnew, 40, said early Thursday.

Protesters also threw concrete chunks, metal pipes, lit roman candles and molotov cocktails, police said.

The far-flung movement of protesters challenging the world's economic systems and distribution of wealth has gained momentum in recent weeks, capturing the world's attention by shutting down one of the nation's busiest shipping ports toward the end of a daylong "general strike" that prompted solidarity rallies across the U.S."

A sign that the Occupy Wall Street movement isn't the best long-term vehicle for Democrats to connect themselves with: A new Quinnipiac poll, showing a plurality of voters viewing the group unfavorably.

The poll, released today, show 30 percent of voters surveyed view the movement favorably, 39 percent unfavorably, with an additional 30 percent not hearing enough to have an opinion. It's one of the first national polls to suggest voters are growing skeptical of Occupy Wall Street- and it comes as police have clashed with protesters in several cities.

These numbers comes as Democrats, from the White House on down, have embraced the Occupy Wall Street movement, and House Democrats sent out a petition aimed at leveraging the Occupy Wall Street movement against the Republican Party.

The poll found that, among independents, the Occupy Wall Street movement and Tea Party movement are now viewed equally unfavorably. Occupy Wall Street has a net -13 favorable rating with independents (29% favorable/42% unfavorable), while the Tea Party holds a net -11 favorable rating (34% favorable/45% unfavorable).

Sorry, anon, OWS has nothing to do with the Democratic Party. They seek economic justice, which is not a platform of either party.

not the point

OWS which was initially received well by the public but has now fallen out of favor

and, more importantly, Dems were stupid enough to buy into the movement as a desperate attempt to gain support for their failed policies

look for political realignment a year from now

November 3, 2011 - U.S. Voters Say Super Committee Will Fail To Cut Debt, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Occupy Wall Street Less Unpopular Than Tea Party

"By a 39 - 30 percent margin, American voters have an unfavorable opinion of the Occupy Wall Street movement, with 30 percent who don't know enough about it for an opinion.

The Tea Party movement gets a slightly more negative 45 - 31 percent unfavorable rating, with 24 percent who don't know enough about it for an opinion.

You found one poll where a plurality -- not even a majority -- oppose OWS. Most polls find that Americans support the movement. Most of us feel that government has been overtaken by corporate bribery, that the rich are preying on the working class, and that the ordinary citizen does not have any influence over government any more.

On the other hand, the teabaggers are a laughingstock. And who is it that is always changing the subject in these blog comments? That would be you, anon.

and guess where there have been looting and rapes....

the tea party is still quite strong.
as you will see in November.
they have been quiet lately because .... you see they had to go back to work.

"It's hard out there for a tea partier.

The upstart conservative movement was all the rage in the summer of 2009, and channeled that energy into a wave of victories in the 2010 midterm elections, sending dozens of hard-line, intransigent Republicans to Congress. However, a Sept. 2011 CNN/ORC poll shows that the pendulum of public opinion has swung away from the tea party.

Just 28 percent of Americans hold favorable views of the tea party, an all-time low in the 19 months that CNN/ORC pollsters have gauged Americans' feelings about the movement. At the same time, 53 percent of Americans think poorly of the tea party, an all-time high. According to CNN/ORC, the movement's popularity peaked in the spring of 2010, when 38 percent of Americans said they liked the tea party and only 36 percent said they didn't.

CNN's polls aren't the only ones to pick up a decline in support for the tea party. In a pair of Pew Research Center polls conducted in February 2010 and August 2011, disapproval of the tea party jumped from 18 percentage points; the percentage of those who said they liked the movement increased from 33 to 36 percent. Washington Post-ABC and Wall Street Journal-NBC polls also found declining support for the tea party from 2009 to 2010."

"The Tea Party movement - Favorable
September 23-25, 2011 28%
August 5-7, 2011 31%
July 18-20, 2011 37%
March 11-13, 2011 32%
December 17-19, 2010 37%
November 11-14, 2010 38%
October 27-30, 2010 37%
September 1-2, 2010 36%
April 9-11, 2010 38%
January 22-24, 2010 33%"

"The Tea Party movement is not, as of 2011, a national political party; polls show that most Tea Partiers consider themselves to be Republicans, and the movement's supporters have tended to endorse Republican candidates. Commentators including Gallup editor-in-chief Frank Newport have suggested that the movement is not a new political group, but simply a rebranding of traditional Republican candidates and policies."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Party_movement

"many believe that the Republican Party is stalling efforts to jumpstart the economy for political reasons, according to a Suffolk University/7NEWS (WSVN-Miami) poll of registered voters in the Sunshine State...

With 51 percent of voters saying that jobs and the economy are the most pressing issues in the nation today, 49 percent said they believe that the Republicans are intentionally hindering efforts to boost the economy so that President Barack Obama will not be reelected. Thirty-nine percent disagreed. As expected, most registered Democrats (70 percent) agreed that Republicans are intentionally hindering the economy and hurting Obama, but independents (52 percent) and even some Republicans (24 percent) also agreed."

"The American public can rest assured that "In God We Trust" is in fact the official motto of the United States.

The Republican-led House approved a resolution Tuesday night to reaffirm the slogan as the country's motto and encourage the public display of it in all public buildings, public schools and other government institutions.

The resolution, introduced by Rep. Randy Forbes, R-Va., was considered under an expedited floor procedure and passed in a 396-9 vote, gaining the two-thirds required for passage.

Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., said he was one of nine lawmakers to vote against the resolution because the nation faces bigger problems, such as the economy, failing public schools and poverty.

"Instead of facing these challenges and creating jobs to help American people make sure they have a roof over their head and food on their table, we are debating whether or not to affirm and proliferate a motto that was adopted in 1956 and is under no threat of attack," he said."

well, at the point of the vote all that was left was to say yea or nay

how does voting against help anymore than voting for?

in either case, we can move on to a discussion of why the Dems' past stimulus bills, much bigger than the current one, haven't worked

then, we can find ways to encourage businesses and reduce regulations to free them to rev up the economy

Obama's 2009 stimulus is still boosting jobs

The $825 billion economic stimulus law signed by President Obama in February 2009 is having a positive impact on the economy about 30 months later, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.

In its latest quarterly report, the agency said the law's combination of aid to states and localities, public works projects, tax cuts and other spending increased the number of people with jobs by 1 million to 2.9 million from April to June.

It said the law lowered the unemployment rate for that quarter by 0.5 to 1.6 percentage points -- meaning the rate could have been above 10% without the law's stimulative provisions. It said the law boosted economic growth in that quarter by 0.8% to 2.5%."

no economist can say for sure what would have been

the truth is that Reaganomics had kept us at close to full employment for about 25 years

there were occassional downward blips but we returned stronger in short order

this time, a blip occurred close to an election

a new regime was elected and instead of applying free market principles, we tried an adventure in socialism

unemployment soared soon after Obama moved into the White House and has hovered at rates that Western European socialist countries have seen as regular for decades

it's not hard to figure out

capitalism works

people who live in socialist countries don't

I don't know how you define "full employment" but unemployment didn't drop below 5% until Clinton was in office.

Take a look at the data on the history of unemployment in the US with a spike under the Reagan administration and a steady decline under Clinton's administration here.

Then take a look at how our National Debt rose under Reagan and GHWBush, declined under Clinton, and rose again under GWBush here.
