Oh, Those Evil Girl Scouts, Part II

Following up on the previous post, this is a story that just keeps getting better. The thing that kills me is how the Nutty Ones choose their targets. Like ... Home Depot. The American Family Association says "Rather than remain neutral in the culture war, The Home Depot has chosen to sponsor and participate in numerous gay pride parades and festivals." So they are boycotting Home Depot. Remember when they tried to boycott Disney? SpongeBob SquarePants was promoting the Gay Agenda, remember that? The gay Teletubby. Oh, and Coca Cola, they have just about put Coke out of business with their boycott, because of Cocal Cola 's domestic partner policy for employees. Right? Coke's going broke, isn't that right?

The Nutty Ones hate schoolteachers these days, of all the things. They think schoolteachers are paid too much and don't work hard enough. The Christian Right supports war and torture and opposes tolerance, it is a little crazy to imagine how Jesus would have felt about any of this but they use His name all the time.

And now they have turned upon that Most Evil of all organizations, the Girl Scouts of America. I mean, really -- Girl Scouts? That is what's wrong with the world? They have started a new web site called HonestGirlScouts.com, where they reveal all the terrible horrible things the Girl Scouts do. Here is a flyer they have on their web site:

So they want you to boycott Girl Scout cookies.

Something tells me they will sell more cookies than ever this year.

oooo..that's scary!

Andreary stills reads the blog

from midnight Jan 18 until midnight Jan 19, major websites, including Wikipedia will go dark to protest the SOPA bill being considered by the extremely unpopular U.S. Congress

will TTF bravely join the rising chorus against internet tyranny or will it cowardly keep this lame blog active?

it will be interesting

"US legislation aimed at curbing online piracy, which had appeared to be on a fast track for approval by Congress, appears likely to be scaled back or jettisoned entirely in the wake of critical comments over the weekend from the White House, people familiar with the matter said."

Glad to see Anon is supporting the White House. Where did SOPA come from? Supporters of the 1% in Congress, AKA the GOP, that's where.

"SOPA’s lead author, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and two of its most vocal co-sponsors, Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.). House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has also felt the wrath of SOPA opponents.

Even GOP presidential contenders Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were asked by voters recently to weigh in on the bill (neither gave definitive answers, though activists have interpreted Santorum’s response as more sympathetic to SOPA than Romney’s)."

How many boxes of Girl Scout cookies have you ordered to show your support for trans folk?

"Glad to see Anon is supporting the White House"

for once, the current White House supports freedom of speech

"Where did SOPA come from?"

from Obama's Hollywood buddies

they're probably ticked that, in this election year, he's throwing them under the bus

he's like that

"Supporters of the 1% in Congress, AKA the GOP"

according to the current RCP average, the generic Republican candidate leads Obama in the polls, so it looks like more than 1% feel the GOP supports them

"SOPA’s lead author, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas), and two of its most vocal co-sponsors, Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.). House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has also felt the wrath of SOPA opponents."

interesting, but SOPA has bipartisan support

there are currently 31 sponsors of the bill, and 16, more than half, are damn Democrats

"Even GOP presidential contenders Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were asked by voters recently to weigh in on the bill (neither gave definitive answers, though activists have interpreted Santorum’s response as more sympathetic to SOPA than Romney’s)"

pretty lame comment

you'd probably have been smarter not to make it

"How many boxes of Girl Scout cookies have you ordered to show your support for trans folk?"

I have dozens of Thin Mints and Do-Si-Dos coming but I didn't order them to support "transfolk"

if I was moved to do that, I'd make a contribution to a mental health charity

"oooo..that's scary!

Andreary stills reads the blog"

I wouldn't worry

she's spends most of her time under a bridge waiting for billy goats to cross and poking herself full of Thin Mints in the meantime

Too bad the GOP can't run "Generic." RCP shows Obama beating actual GOP candidates with ease.

The head showernuts met in TX last weekend and endorsed Santorum, as their favorite GOP candidate. RCP shows Obama beating Santorum by 8 percentage points.

I wonder how many Girl Scout cookies Mitt's millions could buy. I guess we'll have to wait until April for him to release his tax return to find out.

Anon, the TTF blog is hosted by Blogger, which is owned by Google. If they want to take the whole platform down for a day, it is fine with me.

I think a free market of ideas makes for a good Internet, and these bills will destroy the whole concept of free expression in the interest of greed and ignorance. So I personally oppose them, though it is not something TTF has discussed and is not an official position of the group. But I am not going to go into the Blogger template and hack the macro code so that we can be invisible for a day, it's just too much hassle and it is not our fight.

The First Lady is not against treats. She favors moderation and recommends people eat healthy foods, and exercise to be physically fit. Mrs. Obama has nothing against having a sweet treat or two.

To wit:

Halloween 2011: Obama, Michelle Hand Out Candy To White House Trick-Or-Treaters (VIDEO)

I bet she'd even recommend checking your facts before posting your comments to keep yourself from appearing so uninformed.

I recommend you try it, you might actually learn something.

we all knew the fact that the Obamas are hypocrites, but thanks for the reminder

we all also know they looooovvee Halloween almost as much as they love jet-setting:

"In October 2009, the national unemployment rate was 10 percent, a national health care plan was at the center of debate over the cost of entitlements in an indebted nation and bank bailouts had launched a brand new political movement called the Tea Party.

So when the White House decided to host an extravagant, Hollywood-created Halloween Party decorated by Tim Burton and featuring Johnny Depp in his Mad Hatter role from Burton’s acclaimed “Alice in Wonderland,” the event was deliberately held on the down-low.

In fact, the White House was more than just a little concerned about the way the costume party would affect the public’s perceptions.

“White House officials were so nervous about how a splashy, Hollywoodesque party would look to jobless Americans — or their representatives in Congress, who would soon vote on health care — that the event was not discussed publicly, and Burton and Depp’s contributions went unacknowledged.”

The event, so over the top that “Star Wars” creator George Lucas loaned out the original Chewbacca costume from the legendary film for an unknown participant to wear, was covered by a front event for the press in which the first couple handed out candy to trick or treaters. The president did not don a costume to that event, but first lady Michelle Obama wore a leopard-print sweater, cat ears and sparkly eye makeup."

Thanks for pointing out that 2009 "news" story in 2012. At least he didn't film himself running around the White House saying "Nope, no WMD under here.....none over there" for fun like Bush did.

If you are so into old "news" you'll want to be sure to watch Nightline tonight so you can hear what surgin' Oldt Gingrich's second of three heterosexual wives (the one he cheated on his first wive with, and the one he was married to when he started his second cheatin' affair with the one he converted to Catholicism for and is married to now) has to say about him. What a fine upstanding conservative that Speaker Gingrich is, huh?

According to The Drudge Report "Marianne Gingrich has said she could end her ex-husband's career with a single interview." That interview will air tonight on Nightline.

Maybe Gingrich will flame out in SC as fast as he did in Iowa so the "Massachusetts Moderate" can lose to Obama, just like Ann Coulter predicted he would.

wow, sounds like I hit a raw nerve with the mention of Obama's extravagances

the truth is, he got into the White House and he's question to himself was: what's in it for me?

like a male Marie Antoinette, he and his family have and been jet-setting and living large while Americans suffer in unemployment and despair

any of the Republicans will beat him

btw, who ever heard of an ex-wife who thinks negatively of her former husband

it's like a man-bites-dog story!

You didn't hit any nerve, you moron, nobody at all cares about your attempts to provoke people. Obama is not extravagant, it's a stupid thing to say and nobody is going to bother to argue with you about it.

Mitt Romney said he pays "closer to 15%" income tax because he has no earned income, except for $374,327 in speaking fees, which BTW he said was "not very much."

The latest numbers from the IRS -- based on 2009 tax returns -- show what it takes to be among the top 1% of income earners: adjusted gross income of $343,927 or more, or more than $30,000 less than the earned income Romney calls "not very much."

People who make $32,396 are in the top 50% of wage earners. A single worker who earns more than $35,350 in income pays a 25 percent tax rate on earnings above that amount. Many families that earn less than $100,000 per year pay an effective rate of just above that, according to the Congressional Research Service.

In the two years since the end of the Great Recession in June 2009, the inflation-adjusted median income of American families has fallen 6.7%, to just under $50,000.

Romney has an estimated wealth of between $190 million to $250 million, according to financial disclosure reports. If he ever releases his income tax returns, we'll know how much total money he made, beyond the "not very much" $374,327 he earned in speaking fees.

Romney's wealthy welfare comes from a loophole in the tax code that taxes long-term capital gains at a 15 percent rate. Private equity executives are then "paid" with capital gains instead of regular income. The executives, such as Romney, then tell the Internal Revenue Service that they were not being reimbursed a salary for work they performed but instead were merely investors reaping the rewards of risk taking. Happily for the executives, any investments that go belly up and lead to bankruptcy and mass layoffs can be counted against the earnings, which amounts to a tax subsidy for failed projects.

That's extravagance.

Romney, and I'm not a fan, is not in the White House and the rest of us are not paying for his extravagances

btw, you didn't cite any examples of lavish spending by Romney, just his success at producing wealth

we admire the production of income in America

the jet-setting extravagances and partying of Obama and his family, meanwhile, have been on the public dole and are an embarassment to the country

it'll come up

also, I be in favor of cutting government spending enough that workers' tax rate could be reduced to 15%, and so would the Republican candidates

Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, and Paul, have been enjoying the Bush tax cuts while workers and the unemployed suffered a lot during the Great Recession. Not a one of the GOP candidates wants to pay more taxes to help this nation get out of the hole Bush dug for us like Obama's Buffet Rule would do.

Romney's tax plan — which calls for permanently extending the Bush administration's tax cuts, reducing the corporate income tax rate and eliminating the estate tax —would cut the taxes of people earning more than $1 million a year by an average of $295,874.

Since Romney would also allow some of President Barack Obama's tax cuts to expire, his plan would effectively raise taxes on some people earning less than $40,000 a year. The Romney tax plan would add to the deficit by reducing federal revenues by $600 billion in 2015, a 16 percent cut.

Bloomberg reports

"Newt Gingrich made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees from two contracts with mortgage company Freddie Mac, according to two people familiar with the arrangement.

The total amount is significantly larger than the $300,000 payment from Freddie Mac that Gingrich was asked about during a Republican presidential debate on Nov. 9 sponsored by CNBC, and more than was disclosed in the middle of congressional investigations into the housing industry collapse."

Some of that tax payer funded Gingrich income became a $500,000 interest free revolving charge account at Tiffany's.

Another Bloomberg report says:

"Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s plan to cut taxes for many individuals and corporations would expand the U.S. budget deficit by $1.3 trillion in 2015, an analysis found....[while] former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s proposals also would expand the deficit by $1.3 trillion. The budget shortfall would grow by $600 billion in former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney’s tax proposal."

Only President Obama wants to cut tax rates for workers and allow the Bush tax cuts for the rich to expire so the nation might enjoy the prosperity we all shared under President Clinton.

Bloomberg reports:

"Global investors overwhelmingly support President Barack Obama’s proposed tax increase for those earning annual incomes of $1 million or more in an effort to reduce the deficit.

By a margin of 63 percent to 32 percent, respondents in a Bloomberg Global Poll approved of the president’s proposal, known as the “Buffett rule” in a nod to Warren Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., who has said it is wrong that he pays a smaller share of his income in taxes than does his secretary."

"Since Romney would also allow some of President Barack Obama's tax cuts to expire, his plan would effectively raise taxes on some people earning less than $40,000 a year"

something that many people have yet to realize is that President Obama has permanently damaged the financial structure of the Social Security system

it was once a given that this system should strive to be self-supporting

now, Obama has "temporarily" cut it's funding and anytime anyone suggests restoring it, he demagogues and acts like they're attacking "poor folk"

this guy is the anti-LBJ

America might not survive another four years of his Presidency

January 20, 2012 10:06 AM

well, Obama had to do that to give them more because the lower 50% of Americans in terms of income already not only pay no income tax but many of them get "refunds" when they had no withholding

Romney, and I do think some aspects of personal finance are dubious, pays a much higher rate than 15%

his corporations are taxed before he receives that dividends, so the taxes are taken out before he gets the income

it might be fair to raise his taxes if you reduced corporate tax to zero though
