On Being The Left

I can still vividly remember the first time, as the Bush administration contemplated attacking Iraq, when I made a comment on a blog and was instantly labeled a "lefty" and a liberal.

It had never occurred to me. I had always thought of myself as a kind of rednecky guy who grew up in the desert and looked at the world from the viewpoint of a rather hopeful jaded realist. I voted but didn't really identify with any political group. A lefty? I didn't even know what that meant. Nowadays I am more or less comfortable with this definition from Psychology Today:
...one may reasonably define liberalism (as opposed to conservatism) in the contemporary United States as the genuine concern for the welfare of genetically unrelated others and the willingness to contribute larger proportions of private resources for the welfare of such others.
That seems like a pretty good definition, and I don't mind seeing myself that way. Liberals don't think everything is about themselves or that their own point of view is the only one.

So as a member of "the left," I'd have to say that this is the place to be, especially when I see something like the inane muttering of rightwinger Rush Limbaugh:
You know what the magic word, the only thing that matters in American sexual mores today is? One thing. You can do anything, the left will promote and understand and tolerate anything, as long as there is one element. Do you know what it is? Consent. If there is consent on both or all three or all four, however many are involved in the sex act, it's perfectly fine. Whatever it is. But if the left ever senses and smells that there's no consent in part of the equation then here come the rape police. But consent is the magic key to the left.
Yes, if two or three or four people consent to something, there is actually, from "the left's" (that is, my) point of view, no problem. It doesn't make lefty-sense to judge people because they enjoy something that I am not interested in.

And, yeah, consent is the magic word. I won't call the rape police if you and somebody else are enjoying something that doesn't appeal to me, if it is something you, or both of you, have agreed to do. Or all three or four of you. And your inflatable love-sheep. Shut the door and go at it, consent is exactly the thing that makes it all right.

Consent is more than a magic word. Consent is the affirmation of human agency. Consent means that you have a soul, you have a mind, you are self-aware and can reason and chart your own course and you have used these mental gifts to make a decision to do something. Consent means that you have positively and consciously decided to engage in an act. Consent is the immediate instance of the general concept of freedom. Sexual behavior without consent is exploitation. I don't really know what "rape police" are supposed to be, but sex without consent is a crime, and regular police are on duty to handle that. Waiting for consent is acknowledgement that your partner is a fully conscious and fully responsible human being, and your equal.

I think "the left" is onto something.

Elizabeth Smart On ‘Locker Room Banter’: ‘There’s No Justifying It — Ever’

"Advocate Elizabeth Smart has no patience for the idea that bragging about sexual assault is just “locker room banter.”

In an interview with the Salt Lake Tribune, the 28-year-old explained why what Trump and his supporters brush off as “locker room banter” is actually damaging to survivors of sexual assault.

Smart said it’s comments like Trump’s that perpetuate rape culture.

“The worst part about it is listening to people trying to belittle it, just saying, ‘Well, it’s locker-room talk, it’s locker-room banter,’” she told the Salt Lake Tribune. “Anyone belittling sexual violence, sexual abuse, they’re doing a huge disservice to victims of violent crimes, violent sexual abuse. There’s no justifying it — ever.”

In a recently leaked hot mic video, the Republican presidential nominee can be heard saying that he just “starts kissing” women without their consent and even “grab[s] them by the pussy,” because “you can do anything” when you’re a star.

Smart told SLT that people need to be educated about the damaging effects of rape culture and ― most importantly ― young women need to learn the power of saying “no.”

“I know I was raised to be kind, to be polite. You didn’t say no, you only said yes,” Smart said. “I wish the word ‘no’ was emphasized. ‘No’ is a good word to say every now and again, especially when it comes to your personal well-being.”"

America Is Having Another Anita Hill Moment

"...Back when Hill brought her claims to Capitol Hill, most Americans were barely aware of the term “sexual harassment” or the fact that there was a body of law to be used to fight predatory behavior in the workplace. In a sense, the real awakening came after the hearings had ended, when thousands of women came forward, often in letters they mailed to Hill, to say that this had happened to them and that they hadn’t understood that it was illegal.

As a result of the dawning realizations, the number of sexual harassment cases filed to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission doubled in just two years. In 1992, later dubbed “The Year of the Woman,” the number of women enrolling in law school peaked at more than 52 percent of all law students, the number of women elected to the U.S. House of Representatives increased by over 60 percent, and the number of women in the U.S. Senate tripled. Dianne Feinstein scored the first female spot on the Senate Judiciary Committee (never again would a woman testify before an all-male panel), and Carol Moseley Braun became the first African American woman in the Senate. In 1993, the Senate added a single-stall women’s bathroom off the chamber floor, finally expanded in 2013 to accommodate the 20 women elected in that session.

None of this just happened. As NPR’s Nina Totenberg put it 25 years after the Thomas hearings, it was because of Hill’s testimony that “all of those silent, female experiences materialized … in the phones exploding on Capitol Hill.” And that was before social media.

Last Friday, after the Washington Post published audio of Trump talking about sexually assaulting women, author Kelly Oxford took to Twitter. “Women: tweet me your first assaults,” she said to her followers, sharing her own harrowing tale under the hashtag #notokay. By late Monday, the New York Times reported, nearly 27 million people had responded. RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, told the Huffington Post that it saw a 33 percent spike in online traffic over the weekend.

My colleague Christina Cauterucci wrote eloquently this week about how women are seeing themselves in Donald Trump’s accusers, to the point where long-buried memories are surfacing, forcing so many of us to confront assaults we had either forgotten, or declined to classify as illegal or improper. This is what Michelle Obama was getting at in her speech on Thursday when she admitted that the revelation about Trump “has shaken me to my core in a way I couldn’t have predicted.”

What took Anita Hill a Senate hearing and years of letters to unearth, broke through via Oxford in two days as she received, and more importantly, showcased, thousands of tweets per hour. That emboldened other Trump victims to come forward. Trump’s latest accuser, Kristin Anderson, said as much to the Washington Post today:

“It’s a sexual assault issue, and it’s something that I’ve kept quiet on my own,” Anderson said. “And I’ve always kept quiet. And why should I keep quiet? Actually, all of the women should speak up, and if you’re touched inappropriately, tell somebody and speak up about it. Actually go to the authorities and press some charges. It’s not okay.”

This dynamic—women who come forward emboldening more women to come forward—is exactly what we saw in the case of Bill Cosby. Only this time it’s even swifter. What became the Year of the Woman in 1992 looks like the Week of the Woman in 2016. That is a spectacular achievement. As sad and frustrating and maddening as it is to hear about women still being abused and treated like dirt by powerful men, this is progress..."

Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is not willing to concede publicly that any states on the map are lost, maintaining that Clinton’s low favorability ratings and Trump’s anti-establishment message will push undecided voters and independents to break for Trump in the final leg of the campaign...."

Several states that Trump initially sought to contest, including Colorado and Virginia, have now seemingly slipped out of reach. Clinton was up by 15 points in Virginia, according to a poll released Sunday by the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University. And Trump has pulled resources from Virginia.

"every election, they report a landslide looming for the Dems and then a few days prior to the election, it's a close race, and who knows what happened"

Bulloney.

The most recent US presidential election had Karl Rove freaking out on Fox News saying OH was going for Romney when in fact Obama won Ohio by nearly 3 full percentage points, 2,827.621 to 2,661,407 for Romney.

Also in 2012, Obama won an electoral college landslide, 332-206 as well as a nearly 4 full percentage point victory in the popular vote, with 51.1% for Obama but only 47.2% for Romney.

Trump has gone ahead of HRC by almost one full percentage point exactly once so far during this entire election season, and that was back in July.

In fact, "Donald Trump interrupted Hillary Clinton 25 times in the first 26 minutes of the debate."

And in the second debate Trump interrupted Clinton 18 times. She interrupted him once.

Those difference explain why the moderators interrupted Trump more than they did HRC.

"The Pew Research Center published an interesting report last week, noting more than 80% of Americans believe partisans “not only disagree over plans and policies, but also disagree on ‘basic facts.’” This was, as the report noted, a widely held belief: “Comparably large shares of registered voters who back Clinton (80%) and Trump (81%) say the two sides are unable to agree on basic facts.”

Ironically, one of the only areas of agreement between Democrats and Republicans is that the other side lives in its own reality.

Pew’s findings were well timed. The day those results were published, Politico published this report:

The latest Marketplace-Edison Research survey shows economic anxiety is up to 36 from 30 a year ago (the scale runs 0-100). But that’s not the depressing part of the poll’s findings.

It’s this: 25 percent of Americans “completely distrust the economic data reported by the federal government, including statistics like the unemployment rate, the number of jobs added, and the amount of consumer spending.” Perhaps unsurprisingly, that number soars to 48 percent of Donald Trump supporters compared to just 5 percent of Hillary Clinton supporters.

As discouraging as this is, the results are helpful in understanding why contemporary debates are so frustrating.

A reality-based observer might note, for example, that the unemployment rate has dropped sharply under President Obama. And the budget deficit has shrunk. And border security has tightened as the number of undocumented immigrants entering the United States has declined. And government spending has leveled off. And murder rates are down. And voter fraud hardly ever happens anywhere in the United States.

Many rank-and-file conservatives will, with great sincerity, insist that each of these claims is wrong. These folks are mistaken, of course, and reality-based observers might point to official evidence to prove their point, but that won’t work – because much of the right “completely distrusts” data reported by the federal government.

Indeed, it must be terribly frustrating for conservatives to be stuck in something akin to a state of Cartesian confusion: independent news organizations, citing official data, will routinely tell the public about important developments surrounding, say, job creation. But for much of the right, independent media outlets are corrupt and untrustworthy; official figures from the government are extension of some kind of conspiracy to mislead the public; and they know in their guts that job creation is collapsing, evidence be damned.

It’s easy to assume many who disbelieve real-world evidence aren’t hearing the facts, but some of this polling data raises a separate explanation: they’re confronted with the facts, but they assume the facts are part of an elaborate, untrustworthy scheme..."

pathetic attempt at misdirection

maybe you can get some help from a professional magician

let's consider:

"the unemployment rate has dropped sharply under President Obama"

well, it spiked in his first year so "dropped" simply means he's repaired some of his damage

more to the point: the labor participation rate is the highest since the Great Depression

so the rate is simply down because so many have given up hope and aren't counted as job seekers

all this despite an all-out Keynesian stimulus doubling the debt from the last 230 years in just eight

and eight years of near zero interest rates

all things considered, Obama's stewardship has been tragic

"And the budget deficit has shrunk."

only because it was high in his first year from a supposed jobs program that wasted trillions on nothing when we had crumbling infrastructure

Obama should be embarrassed

"And border security has tightened as the number of undocumented immigrants entering the United States has declined"

some think it's still too high but I haven't heard anyone not believe this fact

Obama's desire to bring in 11 million illegal immigrants is the issue

"And government spending has leveled off"

because of a deal the Republicans pushed and which Obama fought with all his might

"And murder rates are down"

they were until this year

as police have responded to lack of support from the Barry administration by loosening policies that brought the crime rate down, the murder rate is soaring in many cities

"And voter fraud hardly ever happens anywhere in the United States"

and how would you know that?

It's not just me who knows it, Anon.

Even Fox News Knows Trump’s Voter Fraud Claims Are Garbage

"...ample studies and election experts agree that voter fraud is both rare and inconsequential. Even the hosts of Fox News’ “The Five,” who often defend Trump, shot down his claims....

...Kimberly Guilfoyle pointed out there have been “a lot of research and studies” examining voter fraud. “Overall, it doesn’t bear out in terms of the numbers to say that there is widespread voter or election fraud,” she said.

Dana Perino pointed that even some members of Trump’s campaign are reportedly telling him that “that’s not really true.”

“It’s not good for American democracy and our elections,” Guilfoyle said, noting that his tactics seem to be “working” on some of his fans.

A Politico/Morning Consult poll released earlier this week found that 73 percent of Republican voters surveyed worried the election could be rigged against Trump. It’s unsurprising given that the Republican nominee has spent years convincing his supporters to believe voter fraud is a real problem despite evidence of the contrary. In fact, one comprehensive study found only 31 likely instances ― out of over a billion ballots ― of in-person voter fraud (the kind that restrictive voter identity laws are trying to prevent.)

Even Bill O’Reilly ― an outspoken supporter of voter ID laws ― said that Trump should “stop whining” about the election being rigged."

When Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton's family members enter the event hall at Wednesday's final presidential debate in Las Vegas, they will not shake hands as they've done in the past — a change that was reportedly made at the request of the Clinton campaign.

The Clinton campaign negotiated a modified plan that changes the way the candidates' spouses will enter the debate hall. The two sides will not cross paths, and will walk into the room closer to their designated seats.

Normally, the candidates' families greet each other at the start of debate, but it does not look like that will be the case Wednesday night, given Clinton's fear of dramatic stunts.

Both candidates have engaged in a form of psychological jujitsu during these debates. The Clinton campaign invited Mark Cuban, one of Trump's major agitators, to the first meeting. Before the second debate, Trump held a press conference with women who were sexually assaulted by former president Bill Clinton. And for this final meeting, the Manhattan billionaire reportedly invited President Barack Obama's estranged half-brother, Malik Obama — a Trump supporter — as his guest.

Trump has no winning policies to tout so he tries to orchestrate stunts that might increase ratings of his TV shows and upcoming media ventures.

Thanks for the URLs of opinion pieces from the right wing, which will remain unread. Go post them at InfoWars where they might be appreciated.

"The Clinton campaign negotiated a modified plan that changes the way the candidates' spouses will enter the debate hall. "

And the Trump campaign apparently agreed to the changes in that modified plan.

"...The new arrangement calls for the candidates’ spouses to enter the hall closer to their seats, rather than crossing the room, and each other’s paths.

That would avoid any potential for confrontations, given Mr. Trump’s penchant for dramatic stunts.

On Tuesday, an aide to Mrs. Clinton declined to comment on the change, and aides to Mr. Trump did not respond to an email seeking comment.

[PAY ATTENTION, THIS IS THE RELEVANT PART]: It is possible, of course, that further negotiations could result in a different arrangement, if both sides agree, by the time the debate begins at 9 p.m. Eastern.

But the unease over how the candidates’ families interact echoes that of the candidates themselves. At the debate in St. Louis, in a striking departure from tradition, Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump did not shake hands at the start, though they did at the conclusion of the 90 minutes.

The Clinton campaign is bracing for other possible Trump surprises at the debate, which seem more likely as the Republican nominee slips further in the polls.

Mr. Trump’s aides are preparing him with a sharp escalation in attacks on Mrs. Clinton’s character and a focus on her health, according to a senior campaign adviser, who spoke on the condition of anonymity..."

The so-called "scandals" that the right is trying to pin on Hillary are silly things like using the wrong email servers, or working alongside people who also contributed to a charity she is associated with. Oh, or trying to tar her with her husband's past infidelities. Or getting sick. Trump on the other hand doesn't know the first thing about running a country. He is eager to use nuclear weapons, judges women by their grabbability, does not believe in the democratic process, incites violence, vows to jail political enemies who have not committed any crime -- he's a worm. After the media gave him billions of dollars of free publicity, he complains that they're biased against him, because they show him at his own speeches saying atrocious, deplorable, and dangerous things.

""Oh sure. Twenty-million more Americans are now covered with health insurance, there are no more preexisting condition cancelation games, no more kicking kids off parents' policies until age 26 and you call that a failure."

both the pre-existing condition and age 26 came into effect before Obamacare"

No they didn't, you misinformed lying Trumpster.

Trump wants to eliminate the ACA, which means insurance companies will be free again to deny coverage or charge exorbitant prices for heath insurance polices for sick people who have pre-existing conditions.

Pre-Existing Conditions

"Under the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies can’t refuse to cover you or charge you more just because you have a “pre-existing condition” — that is, a health problem you had before the date that new health coverage starts. They also can’t charge women more than men.

These rules went into effect for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2014.

What This Means for You

Health insurers can no longer charge more or deny coverage to you or your child because of a pre-existing health condition like asthma, diabetes, or cancer. They cannot limit benefits for that condition either. Once you have insurance, they can't refuse to cover treatment for your pre-existing condition. Learn more about coverage for pre-existing conditions.

One Exception: Grandfathered Plans

The pre-existing coverage rule does not apply to “grandfathered” individual health insurance policies. A grandfathered individual health insurance policy is a policy that you bought for yourself or your family on or before March 23, 2010 that has not been changed in certain specific ways that reduce benefits or increase costs to consumers.

Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) Coverage

The Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) ended on April 30, 2014. The PCIP program provided health coverage options to individuals who were uninsured for at least six months, had a pre-existing condition, and had been denied coverage (or offered insurance without coverage of the pre-existing condition) by a private insurance company. Now, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, health insurance plans can no longer deny anyone coverage for their pre-existing condition, and so PCIP enrollees can transition to a new plan outside of the PCIP program. Learn more about your health insurance options at HealthCare.gov...."

Trump's desire to eliminate the ACA will also cause young adults to no longer be allowed to remain on their parents' health insurance policies until age 26.

Young Adult Coverage

"Under the Affordable Care Act, if your plan covers children, you can now add or keep your children on your health insurance policy until they turn 26 years old.

What This Means for You

Before the health care law, insurance companies could remove enrolled children usually at age 19, sometimes older for full-time students. Now, most health plans that cover children must make coverage available to children up to age 26. By allowing children to stay on a parent's plan, the law makes it easier and more affordable for young adults to get health insurance coverage.

Children can join or remain on a parent's plan even if they are:

Married

Not living with their parents

Attending school

Not financially dependent on their parents

Eligible to enroll in their employer’s plan..."

You can hold your own opinions, but quit lying about the facts.

Ecuador Admits Cutting Julian Assange’s Internet Over Election Meddling

In a statement, Ecuador’s leftist government said WikiLeaks’ decision to publish documents impacting the U.S. election campaign was entirely its own responsibility, and the South American country did not cede to pressure from other nations.

“In that respect, Ecuador, exercising its sovereign right, has temporarily restricted access to part of its communications systems in its UK Embassy,” it added in a statement.

“The Ecuador government respects the principle of non-intervention in other countries’ affairs, it does not meddle in election processes underway, nor does it support any candidate specially.”

Assange was granted asylum by Ecuador after a British court ordered him extradited to Sweden to face questioning in a sexual molestation case involving two female supporters.

WikiLeaks said it activated “contingency plans” after Assange’s cut-off, and Ecuador said that its action did not stop the group continuing “journalistic activities.”

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa has long backed Assange’s right to free speech and has also supported Clinton publicly.

“For the good of the United States and the world ... I would like Hillary to win,” he told broadcaster Russia Today last month.

You eat it right up!

What did your guru say about words? Oh yeah, "It’s just words, folks. It’s just words."

How about you come up with some numbers for a change?

Here are Hillary's latest numbers FYI.

Hillary is still up by an average of more than 6 points in all the polls, up by 92 electoral college votes, and her poll numbers are even up in a traditionally red state like AZ.

Trump currently leads in 3 battleground states -- OH, GA and IA -- while Hillary leads 11 battleground states -- FL, PA, NH, NC, NV, WI, MN, CO, VA, ME, and AZ.

What's amazing is GA and AZ are now battleground states after decades of voting reliably for the Grab Our Pu--ies party.

Wiki reports:

"...In presidential races, Georgia has given its electoral college votes to the Republican candidate all but four times since 1964: in 1968, segregationist George Wallace won a plurality of Georgia's votes on the American Independent Party ticket; former Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter won his home state by landslide margins in 1976 and 1980 (sweeping every county in the state in 1976); and then-Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton won a plurality of votes in 1992 against incumbent Republican George H. W. Bush and Independent Ross Perot. Republican George W. Bush won Georgia by double-digits in 2000 and 2004, with 54.67% and 57.97%, respectively, of the vote. However, in 2008, John McCain won the state by a narrower margin of only 5 points, winning 52% to Democrat Barack Obama's 47%. In 2012, Mitt Romney won the state with 53% to Obama's 45%...."

Arizona has only voted for a Democrat once since 1964 and that was in 1996 for Bill Clinton.

Trump used his foundation to fund guerrilla filmmaker James O’Keefe
He funneled at least $10,000 to O’Keefe’s Project Veritas

"In Wednesday’s presidential debate, Donald Trump claimed that new videos proved that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama had “hired people” and “paid them $1,500” to “be violent, cause fights, [and] do bad things” at Trump rallies.

He was referring to videos released this week by conservative activist James O’Keefe that purport to show pro-Clinton activists boasting of their efforts to bait Trump supporters into violent acts. The videos offer no evidence that Clinton or Obama were aware of or behind the alleged dirty tricks.

Still, Trump claimed the videos exposed that a violence at a March Chicago rally was a “criminal act” and that it “was now all on tape started by her.”

Trump neglected, however, to mention his own connection to the videos, released by James O’Keefe and his Project Veritas tax-exempt group. According to a list of charitable donations made by Trump‘s controversial foundation (provided to the Washington Post in April by Trump’s campaign), on May 13, 2015, it gave $10,000 to Project Veritas.

...5/13/2015 Project Veritas 10,000.00...
CREDIT: Washington Post

Trump, who claimed in the same debate that Hillary Clinton “shouldn’t be allowed to run” for president “based on what she did with e-mails and so many other things,” was funding a convicted criminal. O’Keefe was sentenced to three years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and a $1,500 fine in 2010 after taking a plea bargain following a botched “sting” attempt at the office of then-Sen. Mary Landrieu.

What’s more, there is a great deal of reason to be skeptical of the videos themselves. O’Keefe has a long history of selectively editing videos to present a false impression to the viewer. His most famous video, an attack on the now-defunct community organizing group ACORN, supposedly showed employees agreeing to help him smuggle underage prostitutes into the country. It turned out the employees later had called the police and O’Keefe eventually paid $100,000 in a settlement after being sued for surreptitious recording of someone’s voice and image.

Even Glenn Beck’s conservative The Blaze slammed O’Keefe over a selectively-edited video purporting to show unethical action on the part of National Public Radio executives, faulting “ editing tactics that seem designed to intentionally lie or mislead about the material being presented.

Though the latest video too has been criticized for selective editing by at least one of its subjects, two of the staffers resigned after its release."

It’s official: The Log Cabin Republicans (LCR) voted not to endorse Donald Trump this weekend.

"...“Mr. Trump is perhaps the most pro-LGBT presidential nominee in the history of the Republican Party,” the group claimed in a release Saturday. “His unprecedented overtures to the ‘LGBTQ community’ — a first for any major-party candidate in our nation’s history — are worthy of praise, and should serve as a clarion call to the GOP that the days of needing to toe an anti-LGBT line are now a thing of the past.” Yes, the statement put “LGBTQ community” in quotes...

...The LCR statement implies that Trump truly is pro-LGBT, but it’s his advisers and allies who are the problem. “As Mr. Trump spoke positively about the LGBT community in the United States, he concurrently surrounded himself with senior advisers with a record of opposing LGBT equality, and committed himself to supporting legislation such as the so-called ‘First Amendment Defense Act’ that Log Cabin Republicans opposes.”

But Trump’s promise to sign the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA), which would enable religious discrimination against same-sex couples, is far from the only example of Trump’s anti-LGBT positions. He also said he would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn marriage equality — and his specific recommendations confirm this. Despite initially supporting respecting transgender people’s bathroom usage, he has backslid to supporting “states’ rights” to decide anti-trans bathroom policies, a timeless talking point for allowing injustices to persist. The campaign has confirmed that Trump would roll back the Obama administration’s guidance protecting transgender students, workers, and tenants from discrimination, as well as his executive order protecting the LGBT employees of federal contractors. And of course, he picked as his running mate Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R), who not only championed his state’s “religious freedom” pro-discrimination law, but who has a history of nasty anti-gay rhetoric.

Arguably, Trump doesn’t hold a single pro-LGBT position. The outreach LCR praises him for has never included a single promise for how he would improve life for the queer community in the U.S. Instead, Trump has deployed homonationalism, the hope that ISIS’ brand of homophobia is severe enough to rally people together against it. In fact, it was only after the tragic shooting in Orlando that he actually started referencing “LG…BT…Q” people occasionally in his remarks — and only in this capacity. In other words, Trump isn’t actually pro-LGBT, he’s just more Islamophobic than he is homophobic or transphobic..."

Clinton supports marriage equality, opposes pro-discrimination "religious freedom" laws, and supports the right of transpeople to use the bathroom of their choice.

Trump has already ripped the Republican party to pieces, and those were his allies. It will take them years to recover. His prospects for doing better for the country than he has for the Republican party is somewhere between nil and zero.

I'm not a fan of Hillary, and never voted for her husband. But she is at least competent enough to keep our plutocracy intact until we can wrest control back away from the corporations.

Even many Republicans know Trump is about as safe as playing Russian roulette. The most interesting thing is that ideologically, they have a safe out in Gary Johnson. They could vote for him en masse and spare themselves both from Trump and Hillary, and perhaps minimize the damage Trump has done to their party, and even save a small piece of their dignity.

It is telling that there are so many prominent repubs publicly coming out for Hillary. It really undermines the decades of investigations they have done on the Clintons and highlights how much they were just a smoke screen generated for the media.

Have a nice day,

Cynthia

Hillary Clinton, in 1992 ,denounced President George H.W. Bush after special prosecutor Lawrence Walsh issued an indictment the weekend before the election against former Defense secretary Caspar Weinberger in the Iran-Contra case.
The Clintons seized on the new indictment, howling about a 'culture of corruption' that supposedly pervaded the administration." Bush’s poll numbers declined and Bill Clinton won the election. Keep this in mind when you hear Hillary talking about how awful it is for law enforcement officials to 'interfere' in the presidential election process.

It was Perot's 18.9% of the popular vote in the 1992 presidential election, along with GHWBush's failure to stick to his 1988 pledge "Read my lips: no new taxes" that caused him to lose his reelection effort.

He was losing in the polls long before Walsh issued that indictment.

"interesting you don't [sic] much about that in the media"

Yeah, you'd think the liberal media would be all over it.

Well, the media isn't, but we the people who use FB and Twitter are all over it.

"If you’ve been anywhere near Facebook or Twitter in the past several months, you’re probably aware that there is a case working its way through the courts that accuses Donald Trump of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1994.

On Wednesday, the woman, who remains anonymous, will appear at a press conference with her new attorney, Lisa Bloom, the daughter of Gloria Allred. Bloom wrote a column about the case in The Huffington Post last summer....

...as the reality of the court date increasingly dawns on the press, coupled with Trump’s own admission that he sexually assaults women, the case is getting harder to ignore. Baer said that two media outlets have recently done interviews with Johnson, and stories could pop at any minute.

Erik Wemple, a media reporter at the Washington Post, said he hasn’t talked to many journalists about their decision to shy away from the story. “I can’t cover everything,” he said. “Around the spring, the Washington Post was getting hammered for assigning two dozen reporters to investigate Trump. I wrote a piece wondering whether that was anywhere near enough. It wasn’t, as it turns out.”

In some ways, given the role of Facebook in disseminating news, it matters less this cycle than any other previous one that the media has largely ignored the case. Open platforms, too, have helped the story circulate. The story that Bloom published on HuffPost’s contributor platform has been shared on Facebook 140,000 times. The piece has been viewed 5,221,475 times since June.

But with Bloom’s press conference at 6PM tonight, everything could change."

It also reports the "margin of error for the survey is +/- 4.57% for the full sample."

"another blue state bites the dust"

Not exactly. Merely "550 likely voters" in the University of Denver poll show Trump and Clinton tied at 39% in a 4 way race.

Interestingly, 55% of those same 550 likely voters in Colorado feel "things are generally going in the right direction" while only 34% feel "things have gotten pretty seriously off on the wrong track here in Colorado."

Also, Democratic Senator Mike Bennet leads his opponent by 8 percentage points according to those same 550 likely voters in Colorado.

"WBUR poll is reporting New Hampshire is all tied"

Today's WBUR poll actually shows Trump in front, with a razor thin 1-point lead, well within the 4.4 percentage point margin of error. and Trump is still 2 points below his highest result in this poll, which was back in May.

The WBUR poll also found 69 percent believe Trump has done more to divide people than bring them together. Just over 50 percent feel that way about Clinton.

look at RCP's no-toss map: Donald has 265 and that includes dated averages when he is clearly ascendant

last Friday, Clinton was feigning wanting the FBI to release everything they have

since, they've released the records of an earlier investigation when Bill pardoned Marc Rich in exchange for a contribution to the Clinton Foundation and they also let out that the Clintons are also being investigated for bribery and corruption in connection with payments from hostile foreign governments for speaking fees

now, they're whining that the FBI is releasing too much

as long as Hillary is the center of attention, she loses

what does that say about our Dem nominee?

well, one thing is that if elected the country will be paralyzed for years, just like in 73-74, when Americans ignored Watergate because the other candidate seemed so extreme

who needs that?

WALLACE: But, Mr. Trump, let's take one issue. You say now that the Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex marriage is the law of the land and that any politician who talks about wanting to amend the Constitution is just playing politics. Are you saying it's time to move on?

TRUMP: No, I'm saying this. It has been ruled up. It has been there. If I'm a, you know, if I'm elected, I would be very strong on putting certain judges on the bench that I think maybe could change things.

But they've got a long way to go. I mean at some point, we have to get back down to business. But there's no question about it. I mean most — and most people feel this way.

They have ruled on it. I wish that it was done by the state. I don't like the way they ruled. I disagree with the Supreme Court from the standpoint they should have given the state — it should be a states' rights issue. And that's the way it should have been ruled on, Chris, not the way they did it.

This is a very surprising ruling. And I — I can see changes coming down the line, frankly. But I would have much preferred that they ruled at a state level and allowed the states to make those rulings themselves.

WALLACE: But — but just to button this up very quickly, sir, are you saying that if you become president, you might try to appoint justices to overrule the decision on same-sex marriage?

TRUMP: I would strongly consider that, yes.

“If I decide to run for office, I’ll produce my tax returns, absolutely.”

Mr. Trump’s refusal to release his returns is an unprecedented sign of contempt for voters.

The campaign even lies about his initial lie, denying that Mr. Trump ever promised to release his returns.

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. . . . They’re sending people who have lots of problems. . . . They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”

In the United States of America most of us aspire to live in, we are each judged as individuals. Mr. Trump judges by group

“You’d be in jail.”

American democracy survives the passions and animus stirred up every four years because its leaders always have accepted this rule: The loser acknowledges the winner, and the winner leaves the loser in peace. Mr. Trump disavows both sides of that time-tested formula.

“I would bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”

Mr. Trump’s celebration of torture provides one answer to that question. His vow to kill the innocent relatives of suspected terrorists offers another.

"“I’ve always felt fine about Putin. I think he’s a strong leader, he’s a powerful leader.”"

In keeping with his disrespect for democracy at home, Mr. Trump consistently expresses admiration for the vilest dictators abroad.

“I’d like to punch him in the face, I tell ya.”

Trump did not limit his dark musings to protesters; speaking of Ms. Clinton, he appeared to invite assassination attempts. “If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Mr. Trump said in August. “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”

“When you’re a star, they let you do it.”

We've all seen the videotape of Mr. Trump bragging that he forces himself on women, including by grabbing their genitals.

He knows Trump has promised to appoint judges to re-instate gay marriage bans and supports so called "religious freedom" laws that allow christians to discriminate against gays but not vice versa. Hillary Clinton’s grip on the US presidential election has weakened with less than a week left on the clock, as new polls show the race between the Democrat and Donald Trump going down to the wire in several key swing states. While the former Secretary of State remains the favourite to win the White House on 8 November, a contest that appeared days ago to be all but over has become a nail-biter once more.

Since last Friday, when FBI Director James Comey disclosed the discovery of emails that were evidence, that been destroyed by Clinton, pertinent to the bureau’s investigation of Ms Clinton’s private server, her prospective electoral college lead has plummeted, according to poll averages taken by RealClearPolitics.

A week ago, the aggregator put Ms Clinton more than 100 college votes ahead of Mr Trump, with 333 to the Republican’s 205 on a map where states were counted according to their more likely electoral outcome. Today, the same average of polls gave Ms Clinton just 273 votes, eight ahead of her rival’s 265, and barely more than the 270 needed to claim victory.

NEW MARQUETTE LAW SCHOOL POLL FINDS CLINTON LEADING TRUMP BY 6 PERCENTAGE POINTS IN WISCONSIN; SENATE RACE IS VIRTUALLY TIED

But don't worry. Even if you don’t listen to reason and want to freak out about polling numbers, Wisconsin is not the state to freak out about. No poll on the HuffPost Pollster chart has ever shown Trump leading in Packerland. Marquette didn’t change that trend on Wednesday ― the poll showed Clinton leading by 6 points. The pollsters did note some effects from Friday’s FBI announcement about more emails pertinent to Clinton’s private server, but she had a strong enough lead that those effects didn’t change the outcome.

That’s looking like the case in most states, although a couple could flip to Trump. But not enough to change the outline of the race.

New polls from CNN/ORC in four states started the day on a mixed note for Clinton. Two of those showed Trump leading by 6 points in Nevada, and by 5 points in Arizona. Both are more pro-Trump than most other recent polls have been in those states, but Arizona is a traditionally red state, and Trump’s lead in Nevada has wavered back and forth a few times this year. CNN/ORC showed Clinton up 2 points in Florida, and by 4 points in Pennsylvania ― both well in line with recent trends.

Quinnipiac University released a set of four polls Wednesday afternoon, giving Clinton the edge by 1 point in Florida, 3 points in North Carolina, and 4 points in Pennsylvania. The only bad news for Clinton in that set: She trails by 5 points in Ohio.

So, even without Marquette, it would have been a decent day for Clinton ― nothing to imply that the race had dramatically turned toward Trump, which would have to happen soon if Trump is to win. The race remains as it was: Clinton is leading, with a very strong chance of winning. Could there be an upset? Sure. But the polls indicate a solid Clinton lead.

The RCP Average of polls for Colorado has Clinton up by 2.6, within 3. And the graph of this state shows the lines diverging wider apart, not moving closer together not showing your imaginary Trump "momentum."

The RCP Average of polls for Virginia show Clinton up by 4.7%. while the RCP Average of polls for Michigan show Clinton up by 5.7%.

Rudy Giuliani Confirms FBI Insiders Leaked Information To The Trump Campaign

“Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it.”

Rudy Giuliani said Friday that he knew the FBI planned to review more emails tied to Hillary Clinton before a public announcement about the investigation last week, confirming that the agency leaked information to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

The former New York City mayor and Trump surrogate has recently dropped a series of hints that he knew in advance that the FBI planned to look at emails potentially connected to Clinton’s private server. The agency discovered the messages while investigating former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) for allegedly sexting with a minor. (Weiner’s estranged wife, Huma Abedin, is a top aide to Clinton.)

Giuliani has bragged about his close ties to the FBI for months, mentioning in interviews that “outraged FBI agents” have told him they’re frustrated by how the Clinton investigation was handled. And two days before FBI Director James Comey announced that the agency was reviewing the newly uncovered emails, Giuliani teased that Trump’s campaign had “a couple of surprises left.”

“You’ll see, and I think it will be enormously effective,” he said in an interview with Fox News.

All of this has led to suspicion that someone in the FBI is leaking information to Giuliani and the Trump campaign. The Daily Beast’s Wayne Barrett explored those suspicions on Thursday, detailing how Giuliani’s ties to the agency date back to his days as a U.S. attorney in the 1980s.

Giuliani confirmed that notion Friday during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“I did nothing to get it out, I had no role in it,” he said. “Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it, and I can’t even repeat the language that I heard from the former FBI agents.”

Giuliani also said he expected Comey’s announcement to come weeks before it did.

“I had expected this for the last, honestly, to tell you the truth, I thought it was going to be about three or four weeks ago, because way back in July this started, they kept getting stymied looking for subpoenas, looking for records,” he said.

FBI officials knew about the newly discovered emails weeks before Comey’s announcement, according to multiple reports.

Giuliani insisted he had nothing to do with Comey’s decision to announce the probe prior to Election Day ― a move that both Republicans and Democrats have condemned. He also insisted his information comes from “former FBI agents.”

“I’m real careful not to talk to any on-duty, active FBI agents. I don’t want to put them in a compromising position. But I sure have a lot of friends who are retired FBI agents, close, personal friends,” he said. “All I heard were former FBI agents telling me that there’s a revolution going on inside the FBI and it’s now at a boiling point.”

Trump press secretary Hope Hicks did not immediately return a request for comment. "

Well if they have given up looking for jobs among the millions of jobs that have been created over the past 6 years, maybe they are Trump's uneducated angry base.

Not too many employers wants to hire a hothead with a gun and maybe a GED.

"Those with the least number of years of education are far more likely to support Donald Trump, while those who have had the most schooling are much more likely to back Hillary Clinton, according to a Bloomberg Politics national poll released this week"

From: http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-08-12/education-level-sharply-divides-clinton-trump-race

The US is in the middle of a 73-month streak of total job growth, which is a record.

https://blog.dol.gov/2016/11/04/october-jobs-report-shows-how-far-weve-come/

And this month, wages are up 2.8% over the last 12 months.

This growth occurred while the supposedly "job killing" ACA has been in effect

Even you can probably comprehend the massive success of the Obama administration's policies when you look at this Private Sector Employment, United States graph.

Two years after Dumbya left our economy in free fall and Obama's policies were put in place, job growth turned around and private sector job creation has been climbing ever since.

A lot more blacks will vote for Democrat Clinton than will vote for Grab Our Pu--ies Trump.

If you doubt that, then let's see you post a link to ANY poll showing Trump getting more votes from African Americans than Hillary.

She may not get as high a percentage of African American votes in 2016 as Obama got in 2012, but she will most definitely get more such voters' than the racist Trump will get from the people he calls "the blacks."

RCP reports:

"...The most recent YouGov surveys are out, including the recontact survey finished on Nov. 1, and Democrats still hold a sizeable advantage among registered voters over Republicans (eight to nine points), with Clinton now attracting 91 percent of the Democrats to her side. Also following the normal pattern, Republicans “came home” to Trump: He went from 77 percent Republican support to 86 percent.

While the movement toward Clinton is favorable, she is still a little short of Obama’s level of party support, and Trump has also not quite met the standard set by Romney. Clinton is doing well among women, African-Americans, and Hispanics but not as well as Obama did in 2012. Trump is winning men but not by as much as Romney did in 2012..."

that's a big problem for any Dem because they usually lose the white vote and only make up for it with monolithic support from blacks

well, if Trump wins, look for blacks to return to the party that ended slavery

blacks are starting to realize that Dems have duped them and want them to be perpetually dependent on government programs that treat them without dignity

blacks are starting to realize that their hope is not on making racism a Federal crime or ostracizing every one in our society with a racist attitude

because most people, including blacks, have some degree of racism

raising consciousness about it should be a church program not a government one

what the government needs to do is make inner cities safe, increase FREE ENTERPRISE in inner cities, keep illegal immigrants from taking the jobs of inner city black American citizens, and establish school choice to make public schools accountable to black parents for providing quality education and a wholesome environment

blacks are starting to realize that Dems long ago chose to make the welfare of teacher unions their priority at the expense of the welfare of the inner city black community

Yes, I really think at least 70% of what Trump says is not true.

It's obvious he believes his supporters like you will support him no matter what he does or says about your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters.

Good luck with that.

You have chosen to ignore another fact about this election, a fact that proves at least some of Trumps' lying words do have consequences: Latino early voting numbers in swing states are way up

"...In Florida, more than twice as many Latinos voted early this year compared to recent elections. North Carolina has a much smaller Latino electorate, but its 75 percent bump in early voting could be crucial in the tightly contested state.

Obviously, not all Latinos are going to vote for Clinton, but a Pew poll last month found that those voters tend to prefer Clinton over Donald Trump by nearly 40 percentage points. Some Latino polling groups think the gap could be a lot bigger.

Trump's struggles to appeal to Latino voters are well-documented.

"They're bringing drugs; they're bringing crime. They're rapists," Trump said at a rally.

The negative backlash against Trump's comments about undocumented immigrants has seemed to drive so many people to register to vote that the practice has been dubbed "The Trump effect" or "El efecto Trump.".."

Getting even ten times as hard is what bully losers aim to do.

"...Losing to Clinton on Tuesday would be Trump’s most public and devastating failure. How does a man whose image is based on being the ultimate winner cope with losing? His behavior in defeat has stayed remarkably consistent throughout his career: Either he didn’t really lose, or it was someone else’s fault. In other words, he acts like it didn’t happen.

* * *

Trump is not given to deep analysis of his motives or behavior. But in a series of interviews this year, he did say, with some pride, that he hasn’t changed much since early childhood, when his father, a real estate developer, drilled into his son the directive that he needed to be “a killer,” that there was little in life worse than being “a nothing” and that, whatever he took on, Donald had to be sure to win. Trump’s classmates, neighbors, teachers and friends from New York in the 1950s are united in their recollections of a kid who had a powerful aversion to defeat — and a tendency to blast others when he lost...

...Losing, Trump has stated throughout his public life, is degrading, pathetic, unacceptable. “Man is the most vicious of all animals,” he once told a writer, “and life is a series of battles ending in victory or defeat. You just can’t let people make a sucker out of you.” He mocked his vanquished GOP primary rivals as “losers” all spring, and it’s his favorite pejorative for people who criticize him..."

Every informed and unbiased observer knew all along the FBI wasn't going to find anything on Clinton in Wiener's computer. There was never the slightest evidence of any wrongdoing in all of Hillary's emails but the partisan Comey and the FBI did their best to put a false cloud over Hillary and hand the election to Trump.

The FBI doesn't report to Congress and Congress has no oversight responsibilities for the FBI. Comey broke Justice Department policy by communicating with congress and using innuendo to disparage Clinton before the election when there was no court finding or even an indictment to suggest she had done anything wrong.

Two-faced Comey and the FBI had previously refused to sign on to a letter acknowledging that the overwhelming evidence pointed to Russia as being behind the hacks on Democratic organizations, hypocritically citing the fact that an election was near and he didn't want to influence the public's perception of who to vote for. He had no problem influencing the public not to vote for Hillary prior to the election with no evidence to support that but in his double standard piles of evidence that Russia was involved was to be ignored because the accurate perception would have hurt the Republicans.

The day after the election Obama should unceremoniously fire Comey's a**.

F.B.I. REGRETFULLY ANNOUNCES THAT HILLARY COMMITTED NO CRIMES

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—James Comey, the F.B.I. director, held a press conference on Sunday to “regretfully announce” that Hillary Clinton had committed no crimes related to her e-mails while Secretary of State.

“It is with a deep sense of sadness in my heart that I report that Hillary Clinton committed no crimes,” a visibly emotional Comey said.

Calling the discovery that Clinton could not be prosecuted for wrongdoing “probably the darkest hour of my career at the F.B.I.,” Comey said that he would try to move on from what he called “a shattering disappointment for me personally.”

“No one ever said this job would be a picnic,” he said. “As dismayed as I was to learn that Hillary Clinton committed no crimes, it’s my duty as a professional to find a way forward somehow.”

On the campaign trail, Donald Trump blasted the F.B.I. director. “I thought Comey was rigged, and then I thought he was unrigged, and now I think he’s rigged again,” Trump said. “Lock him up.”

You Will Not Believe Who Endorsed Hillary Clinton

Thanks for the tip, Orin.

Here's more of the story from Greeley CO:

Why Donald Trump Unfurled An Upside Down Rainbow Flag Onstage
"Put the camera on us, faggot!" screamed a supporter at a prior event.

"In one of the more bizarre moments of his campaign ― but likely among the most calculated events this week ― Donald Trump unfurled a large rainbow flag that had the words “LGBTs for Trump” scribbled across it, shortly after walking onstage at a rally in Greeley, Colorado on Sunday night.

Except that the flag was upside down.

The rainbow flag is a series of six stripes, all having very specific meaning according to the creator of the flag in 1978, Gilbert Baker. The top stripe is red, symbolizing life, and the bottommost stripe is violet, symbolizing spirit. Trump’s flag was upside down, even though the handwriting was right side up. In other words, whoever scribbled on it didn’t have an awareness that the flag was upside down when he or she wrote on it.

Trump took the flag from a supporter who happened to be conveniently placed up near the stage, making it seem as if he simply saw it in the crowd and wanted to take it on the stage. But it appeared to be folded up when handed to him, so it’s hard to believe that Trump could see exactly what it was ― unless he knew ahead of time that someone would be handing him a rainbow flag. He then unfurled it onstage, paraded it back and forth for less than a minute, and then gave it back to the person in the crowd who’d handed it to him.

Gay Trump supporter, Chris Barron, formerly of GOProud and now founder of the tiny LGBT for Trump (even the Log Cabin Republicans decided not to endorse Trump [see Cowardly Log Cabin Republicans Finally Admit Truth: Donald Trump Is A Menace To LGBT Rights]), tweeted early the next morning that “Trump made history last night” and is “the most pro-LGBT Pres candidate ever nominated by either party.” (This of course is patently false and ridiculous, since Trump has opposed rights such as a marriage equality, consistently since he first discussed it in 2000, and has now surrounded himself with ardent homophobes like Ben Carson while he has further pushed an anti-LGBTQ agenda, as I’ve written about in depth in several pieces.) But it remained unclear who wrote on Trump’s flag, because, as stated, anyone with any familiarity of the flag would know it was upside down. It also seems odd that anyone with familiarity would use the term “LGBTs”, with an “s” added at the end.

So, considering this flag-waving might have been staged ― and that the person who wrote on it may not have even been queer and didn’t know which way the flag went ― why would the campaign choose this night to have Trump parade the flag, and then have gay supporters tweeting away that Trump is so pro-LGBTQ?

Perhaps it had something to do with what happened earlier in the day at Trump’s rally in Las Vegas. Trump urged the media to pan out across the crowd, targeting the media as the enemy for not showing the full breadth of his audience, and bringing on all kinds of verbal onslaughts on the media contained in a pen ― as he often does. One supporter then yelled at the reporters, presumably specifically at a cameraperson, loudly and clearly, “Put the camera on us, faggot! Put the camera on us, queer!” The anti-gay rant, captured on video, soon went viral...."

A couple of polls out of Florida showing Murphy ahead of Marco Rubio by 1 point.

Probably won't work out that way but its nice to perhaps put a bit of a scare into Rubio and his supporters.

I know gays are preeetty to have LBGT friend Donald coming to the White House and they might want to thank African Americans who are running from Hillary Clinton:

"Black voters could be the key to a Trump victory Tuesday.

Preliminary figures released over the last week or so suggest that black voter turnout is down for Clinton and the Democrats — and up for Trump and the Republicans.

Indeed, the Clinton campaign was so rattled by initial reports of low black voter turnout that it spent the entire final week before the election parading a steady stream of black celebrities in front of the electorate, and even resorted to having President Obama near-beg for black voters to turn out.

Just as Clinton is doing worse overall among black voters than Obama did, Trump is doing far better among black voters than Romney was in 2012. A number of polls indicate he could more than double Romney's showing with black voters, which was only 6 percent of the vote nationally.

A Harper Polling survey of Pennsylvania voters released on Friday showed Trump with the support of nearly 18.5 percent of black voters in that state. Another Pennsylvania poll performed by Remington Research Group, released on Oct. 30, showed Trump with 19 percent support among black voters.

A Siena University poll of likely Florida voters showed Trump receiving the support of 13 percent of black voters. Another Remington Research poll, this time of Virginia voters, also showed Trump with the support of 19 percent of black voters there.

More polling by Remington Research released over the weekend showed Trump getting 22 percent of the black vote in Florida, 19 percent in North Carolina, 22 percent of black voters in Wisconsin, and a groundbreaking 29 percent of the black vote in Pennsylvania. By comparison, Romney took only 5 percent of the black vote in Florida, 4 percent in North Carolina, 6 percent in Wisconsin, and 7 percent in Pennsylvania.

It's not hard to see why Trump is doing unusually well for a Republican with black voters.

Unlike every Republican in at least this writer's lifetime, Trump actually made direct, honest appeals to black voters.

"Every African-American citizen in this country is entitled to a government that puts their jobs wages and security first," said Trump upon unveiling his "New Deal" with black Americans. "I'm asking today for the honor of your vote and the privilege of being your president," he continued. "Whether you vote for me or not, I will be your greatest champion," Trump promised.

a little trip down memory lane:

in November 2012, after Romney had lost, TTFers said Republicans would have to chaaaange to bring in Hispanic voters if they ever want to win another election

how does that look now?

Well, they certainly changed.

well, obviously, TTF was wrong

truth is, with these guys, who engage in so much self-deception, it is often necessary to reiterate the obvious

right, Captain?

Obviously, you missed the point.

I don't know what some TTF poster said four years ago, and given that only about 6 people read this blog, it's not important.

The sentiment expressed above appears to be essentially that outlined on page 6 of the 2012 Republican autopsy:

"If we believe our policies are the best ones to improve the lives of the American people, all the American people, our candidates and office holders need to do a better job talking in normal, people-oriented terms and we need to go to communities where Republicans do not normally go to listen and make our case. We need to campaign among Hispanic, black, Asian, and gay Americans and demonstrate we care about them, too. We must recruit more candidates who come from minority communities. But it is not just tone that counts. Policy always matters.

As part of the Growth and Opportunity Project’s effort, focus groups were conducted in Columbus, Ohio, and Des Moines, Iowa, to listen to voters who used to consider themselves Republicans. These are voters who recently left the Party.

Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is “scary,” “narrow minded,” and “out of touch” and that we were a Party of “stuffy old men.” This is consistent with the findings of other post-election surveys."

This was not some TTFer, it was Republican party leaders.

Obviously, Trump didn't follow this game plan, but he made some "chaaaanges" to the Republican party.

Republicans used to cultivate a veneer of civility and try to hide their xenophobia, homophobia, Islamophobia, misogyny, and disdain for minorities.

Trump let his hate flag fly, and made no apologies for it. He wasn't "PC" and the base loved him for that. He didn't need Latino votes anymore. He cobbled together a coalition of white nationalists, xenophobes, Islamophobes, people who are fine with casual sexual assault, and the religious white right to swing the table in his favor.

It is the new blueprint for future Republicans to win the White House.

This bodes poorly for the future of the US.

Chaaaanges were made. He won the electoral college and heads to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The Hispanic vote was inconsequential.

The consequences for this country however, won't be fully understood for years. It will be painful.
