Two Numbers

Today I am thinking about two numbers that the President has used since yesterday.

Yesterday Donald Trump gave a talk where he said:
Women! Women, we love you. We love you.

Hey, didn’t we surprise them with women during the election? Remember? ‘Women won’t like Donald Trump.’ I said, ‘Have I really had that kind of a problem? I don‘t think so.’ But: ‘Women won’t like Donald Trump. It will be a rough night for Donald Trump because the women won’t come out.’ We got 52 percent. Right? Fifty-two.

And I’m running against a woman! You know it’s not that easy.

Trump celebrates winning 52 percent of women in 2016 — which is only how he did among whites

And then this morning, on Twitter, the President said this:

[Rasmussen and others have my approval ratings at around 50%, which is higher than Obama, and yet the political pundits love saying my approval ratings are “somewhat low.” They know they are lying when they say it. Turn off the show - FAKE NEWS!]

In the first case, as The Washington Post points out, Trump actually got 41 percent of the vote from women. He got 52% from white women, and maybe he really does think that's all that counts. But overall he only got 41% of the women's vote.

So ... this is the President of the United States speaking. He has people to do numbers for him -- the federal government has eleven statistical agencies. He is wrong.

Q: is he lying?

You could say that maybe he doesn't know better. Maybe as he spoke it seemed to him that he got something like fifty-two percent of the women's vote, and so he said it. So then, if that was the case, does this count as a lie?

A: Yes.

Listen, imagine you and I are sitting on the front porch sipping sweet tea and watching the world go by, and we are discussing politics and one of us says, "Y'know, women voted for Trump too -- I heard that fifty-two percent of them voted for him." I wouldn't call that a lie. It's true that one of us could go inside and Google the number, but it doesn't matter. We aren't experts or authorities and if we're wrong there is no consequence.

But ... not to be redundant, this is the President of the United States speaking. He has people to do numbers for him -- the federal government has eleven statistical agencies. He is the leader of one of the greatest countries on the planet. Every word he utters is news. He determines policy and guides our country through the turbulent waters of domestic and international turmoil. If he didn't know, he should have kept his mouth shut.

Now the other thing, Rasmussen. I am looking at the Rasmussen Presidential Tracking Poll. Imagine that -- a company has a whole team that does nothing but measure the President's ratings. Here is what they say today:
Friday, March 09, 2018

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 44% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-four percent (54%) disapprove.

The president’s overall job approval ratings have been trending down at week’s end.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Note that Rasmussen is considered unreliably biased in Trump's favor and almost always rates him as more favorable than the other polls.

This isn't about the numbers -- of course most people don't like him, that has not changed since before the election.

It is about his statement: "Rasmussen and others have my approval ratings at around 50%, which is higher than Obama." Looking at Rasmussen's Obama Approval Index - Month to Month, it seems that Obama only fell as low as 44 percent approval twice in eight years of his administration -- in August and October 2011 he was rated at 44 percent.

So again, Trump is wrong. His approval rating is not fifty percent, it is not "near fifty percent," it is not "higher than Obama" at any point in his presidency.

Q: is he lying?

A: Yes he is lying. He has obviously seen the poll. He is sitting there with his phone, he sees the poll figures, and he decides to tweet a brag. He is not talking off the top of his head. He has time to look it up if he's not sure.

This is the President of the United States speaking. He has people to do numbers for him -- the federal government has eleven statistical agencies. Sitting there on the toilet, he could have held his phone up to some high-paid Secretary of Some Department and said, "Hey, is this right?" And they would say, "Let me check that, chief," and come back and say, "No, it's not right."

There is no excuse for a mistake of this magnitude.

These are two lies about easily-checked numbers within a twenty-four hour period.

Let me tell you, Trump's followers are not going to know. They are not going to read the fake-news Washington Post and Fox isn't going to tell them, or Breitbart. Trump's followers are only going to see more evidence that the world is against him, and against them, and the news is all fake.

This is a kind of fire drill, if you ask me. He is seeing how far he can push it. Can he tell obvious, easily caught lies on the national stage without any blowback at all?

The answer is yes, of course he can lie with impunity. He lied all through the campaign and he lies now. He is doing it for sport. He is doing because he can. He is doing it because he and his policies have no grounding in objective reality and he wants to make sure the rest of us feel the humiliation of losing to him. There is nothing we can do about it. Welcome to America.

"no one said anything about what trans might do in bathrooms"

No, it is not. It is a simplification.

The CRG folks were never in the habit of using kind terms like trans, or transwomen. They usually wrote something more like: "confused men who mutilate themselves and take massive doses of hormones and invade women's privacy in the ladies room." Or "men who dress up like women" or "men who pretend to be women."

The posts are still up in the archive for anyone to peruse through, and you can see how Christians have blamed gays for the rise of Hitler, all the pedophiles in the Catholic Church, and basically all of the ills of our society, and of course, the destruction of marriage.

The rank hypocrisy of Republicans

Allow me to whisk you back in time to the year 2009. It was the worst financial crisis in 70 years, unemployment careening towards 11%, up to 800,000 jobs a month being lost and a concensus amongst economists we desperately need to inject stimulous into the economy. The whitehouse proposed a package which totaled 787 billion dollars in tax cuts and federal spending by the time Obama signed it into law a month after his inauguration.

The Republicans who had just spent the duration of the Bush years exploding the defiict through Bush tax cuts, war spending and medicare part "D" suddenly, on a dime, got deficit religion.

That Stimulus bill that president Obama was pusing got a grand total of three Republican votes in the Senated and zero, not one, zero in the House. Then two years later Republicans threatened en masse to really quite literally destroy the American economy and the global economy by threatening to refuse to raise the debt ceiling, sending the U.S. into default. They held the global economy and the American economy hostage in exchange for the budget control act, an unbelievably severe austerity measure that effectively resulted in 1.2 trillion dollars in cuts over the next ten years. The effect of that was to slow down the recovery and to prolong the misery of millions of Americans needlessly.

Back then Republicans went on and on and on about the debts and the deficits that our children and our grandchildren, they would get weepy at the very thought of all the debt the grandhildren would have. We would be here for a month straight if we played all the tape of this type of wailing but this was the general idea of the refrain "Spends too much, borrows too much, taxes too much and burdens our grandchildren". Their hostage taking resulted in the first ever downgrade of the U.S. credit rating. That was still very much when the economy was in recovery mode.

Fast forward six years. The economy is approaching something that looks like full employment, Republicans soon get in power and guess what? They are doing their own recovery act. I know that sounds crazy, but they really are. Its of course one that mostly benefits large corporations, wealthy people, and defense contractors, but its a stimulus none the less. And get this, the Trump stimulus will cost more than the recovery act Republicans fought against so forcefully when Barack Obama was president.

March 12, 2018 2:13 PM
Blogger Priya Lynn said...

I'm not making this up. Their recovery act comprised of the tax cut package they already passed, and the two year budget deal they hammered out that they recently passed has given hundreds of billions of dollars to the wealthy and corporations and will explode the deficit and will likely total more in cumulative tax cuts and spending and borrowing than Obama's stimulus package, even though the Obama stimulus package came at the worst moment in the U.S. since the great depression and this one arrives at a moment of near full employment.

So, after eight years of sob stories about the debt and the deficit and our children and our grandchildren, the tea party and the tri-corner hats, and the rallies and how we had lost our way during George W Bush and we need to stop spending and all that, it was all, all of it, nonsense, a lie from start to finish, all of it in bad faith - a gaggle of freedom caucus members and Rand Paul sort of not withstanding . I say "sort of" because they all just voted to increase the deficit of over a trillion dollars in tax cuts). But the most important thing to understand after all this, the most important thing to understand about American politics is that its not a debate over the size of government but a debate about who controls it and who it works for. Which is why we now have "The Donald Trump Recovery Act" in which the Republican party injects 800 billion dollars of stimulus over two years into an already full economy because this time around they control the purse strings and they can direct that money where they want it to go - the very wealthy.

If you know anything about Keynesian economics you know the idea is to borrow money whent the economy is in trouble to stimulate the economy and get it going again, and then when the economy is good you raise taxes and pay down the debt. Republicans are doing the exact opposite of that - they're going against the collecive wisdom of the greatest economic thinkers ever and exploding the debt when they should be paying it down so they can pad the pockets of the wealthy who don't need it and screw the poor people who do.

you don't need TTF's comments to know about that

the Catholic Church was obviously too tolerant of homosexuals who became priests because it was a respectable place to hide

I can think of all kinds of ills not caused by gays

this is another lie - no one has said that

"and of course, the destruction of marriage."

the way to destroy an idea is to redefine it

So the Republican House Intelligence Committee is closing down their pretend investigation of Trump collusion with Russia. Not only did they not speak to major players indicted for crimes (Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, George Papadopoulos, George Nader, and Rick Gates), they allowed other key witnesses to speak voluntarily (Hope Hicks, Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump Jr., Steve Bannon) so they could refuse to answer all the key questions that were asked and leave. The Republicans could have subpoenaed these people to force answers but they didn't do that because they didn't want answers to those key questions.

The House Intelligence Committee has lost all crediblity and will likely issue two contradictory reports, of which the Republican one will be a whitewash of the Trump Administration's involvement in the scandal.

This was a mere political stunt by the Republicans on the committee who viewed their job as protecting the president, not investigating what took place. It was essentially the Republicans on the committee saying "We'd rather just not know if its going to be bad news".

The premature closing of this investigation is a betrayal of the American people and a betrayal of the public's trust.

A man who recorded video of a car plowing into a crowd of protesters during last year’s neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville is now suing right-wing conspiracy theorists who claimed he was an undercover CIA officer who helped stage the deadly attack.

Brennan Gilmore, a Foreign Service officer and bluegrass musician, says he hopes to take Alex Jones, who founded the website Infowars, and six others to trial in Virginia federal court for inspiring death threats and harassment.

More broadly, he and his attorneys from the Georgetown Law Civil Rights Clinic said they hope to show that the First Amendment does not protect Jones and others whose sensational falsehoods have inspired vicious responses.

“We’re really trying to set a new paradigm for how people like Alex Jones and Infowars operate, to inject some consequences, legal consequences into that world and hold them accountable for the terror they cause,” attorney Andrew Mendrala said in an interview. “We don’t think the First Amendment protects blatantly defamatory speech that inspires violence and hatred of victims of terrorist attacks and mass shootings.”

Gilmore was using his phone to film counterprotesters at an Aug. 12 white-supremacist rally in downtown Charlottesville when a car rammed into the crowd, killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer and wounding dozens of others.

James Fields, a self-professed neo-Nazi, is charged with first-degree murder in her death.

Gilmore caught the deadly assault on video. He posted it on Twitter, calling it an act of terrorism and encouraging people to “stay home.”

The video was widely viewed; Gilmore was repeatedly interviewed. Then the online attacks began...

"The parents of Seth Rich — the Democratic National Committee staffer police believe was murdered during a botched robbery in 2016 — have sued Fox News over a retracted story that peddled a conspiracy theory about his murder, claiming the network “intentionally exploited” the tragedy for political purposes.

The May 2017 story stated, falsely, that investigators had evidence showing Rich leaked thousands of DNC emails to WikiLeaks in the midst of the 2016 presidential election, just weeks before he was shot to death in Washington. That story line — popular among conspiracy theorists and in alt-right online groups — contradicts U.S. intelligence that Russia was behind the WikiLeaks email dump that damaged Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Fox’s story fell apart quickly after the FBI pointed out that a “federal investigator” and “FBI report” referenced in the story as sources did not exist. The second core source in the story, private investigator and Fox contributor Rod Wheeler, claimed the Fox reporter fabricated his quote saying he had evidence of emails between Rich and WikiLeaks. He has since sued the network for defamation. (Fox News has denied all his claims.)

Fox News retracted the story six days after it was published, saying the story “was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting.”..."

Democrat Holds Slim Lead In Pennsylvania District Trump Won By Nearly 20 Points

"ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa.― Democrat Conor Lamb held a slight vote lead over Republican state Rep. Rick Saccone early Wednesday in a race that will likely end in a recount...

...There is no automatic recount on the congressional district level in Pennsylvania, according to state law. Candidates can, however, petition for a recount within five days after counties complete their vote computations.

“I would rather be in Lamb’s shoes right now,” former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) said late Tuesday on CNN.

About 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Saccone came downstairs from the war room with his wife, Yong, his son, daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. “I just came down to let you know, we’re still fighting the fight,” he said. “It’s not over yet.”

At one point a woman in the crowd yelled out, “There was some monkey business going on at the voting polls, Rick!” [Trying to birth another conspiracy theory, no doubt]

Saccone thanked his supporters and let them know they could go home, because his campaign would be working late into the night

Yet, win or lose, the result represents massive progress for the Democratic Party. It reflects the heightened enthusiasm of the party’s liberal base ahead of the 2018 congressional midterms, and it also signals dissatisfaction of many voters with President Donald Trump. The commander in chief carried the district by nearly 20 percentage points in the 2016 election.

“The congressional map for potentially competitive races has just gotten a whole hell of a lot bigger,” said Mike Mikus, a western Pennsylvania-based Democratic consultant. “If I’m the Republicans, I’m terrified. If I’m the Democrats, I’m very energized looking toward November.”..."

Billy Graham Was Not a Great Man

[A few excerpts]

In America’s last presidential election, high profile ministers from all over the country gathered around Donald Trump to show their unqualified support for a man who by all accounts is the least qualified human being ever to achieve a major party’s nomination. No matter how brazen or foolhardy his words and actions, they continue to support his presidency as if he were divinely appointed by the hand of God. It’s what they were told to do by the party they trust, and churches are good at nothing if not training people to think and act as they are told. The damage this has already caused our national reputation may be irreversible.

Whitewashing Their Roots

Evangelicals today view their opposition to abortion as the single greatest unifier for their tribe. But as religious historian Randall Balmer has explained many times, Falwell’s Moral Majority first unified Catholics and Baptists under their common fear of the enforcement of Green v. Connally, which stipulated that private schools whose admissions policies discriminate on the basis of race automatically forfeit their tax-exempt status with the IRS.

That’s an awful lot of green to give up. Balmer gets right to the point:

"Several evangelical leaders and evangelical organizations applauded the 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision. The late Paul Weyrich, architect of the religious right, was emphatic that abortion had nothing whatsoever to do with the genesis of evangelical political activism in the 1970s…

What galvanized Jerry Falwell and other leaders in the 1970s was not abortion, which they considered a “Catholic issue.” They mobilized instead to protest the rescission of tax-exempt status at Bob Jones University and other “segregation academies.”…Only later, in advance of the 1980 election, did Weyrich and others recognize that abortion could mobilize grass-roots evangelical voters.

Never mind the fact that the Bible never condemns abortion. In fact, in at least one place it actually prescribes it. After decades of increasing irrelevance, evangelicals were primed and ready to matter again, and they were all too willing to accept the invitations of big shots in Washington to attend photo opportunities in order to make it look like suddenly the small-town faithful would regain their voice in the public square."

Read: “What Does the Bible Say About Abortion?

So a movement which started out as an effort to preserve racially discriminatory school policies soon evolved to become about something entirely different, something less optically problematic like the defense of “the unborn.” Prior to this moment, Catholics and evangelicals feared and distrusted each other deeply—the handwringing over the election of Roman Catholic John F. Kennedy was almost comical in retrospect.

Priya's posted article really is pretty ignorant. Billy Graham has as much in common with Jerry Falwell as Cat Stevens has with Osama Bin Laden. Graham was completely apolitical. When he met with Presidents it was to personally minister to them. He was actually approached to run for office many times and declined, deeming his mission more important than politics.

But discussing whether he was great or not is an improvement over the previous rejoicing over someone's death. Maybe Priya will eventually rise up from the cesspool and wash up. Miracles are happening every day.

btw, when someone writes an article to discuss why someone else is not a great man, it indicates that most people think he is

that's why they wrote the article

Evangelical Christianity Had Plenty of Problems Before Donald Trump Came Along

[some excerpts. more at the link]

Michael Gerson, a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush and graduate of evangelical haven Wheaton College, is a card-carrying conservative Christian. That’s why his new cover story for The Atlantic, all about how evangelicals have screwed themselves over by latching onto Donald Trump, can’t be dismissed as another liberal screed.

His thesis is correct, and it’s something critics of the Religious Right have been saying for years: the Trump-loving Christians are hypocrites who routinely ignore his litany of problems in exchange for lip service and right-wing judicial nominees. In doing so, they’ve turned their once proud brand into something toxic.

… there appears to be no limit to what some evangelical leaders will endure. Figures such as [Jerry] Falwell [Jr.] and Franklin Graham followed Trump’s lead in supporting Judge Roy Moore in the December Senate election in Alabama. These are religious leaders who have spent their entire adult lives bemoaning cultural and moral decay. Yet they publicly backed a candidate who was repeatedly accused of sexual misconduct, including with a 14-year-old girl.

The moral convictions of many evangelical leaders have become a function of their partisan identification. This is not mere gullibility; it is utter corruption. Blinded by political tribalism and hatred for their political opponents, these leaders can’t see how they are undermining the causes to which they once dedicated their lives. Little remains of a distinctly Christian public witness.

Gerson also notes that white evangelicals today — and that’s an important distinction since black evangelicals know better than to follow Prophet Trump — are more influenced by Fox News than, say, Rick Warren.

Gerson’s most damning commentary may be a part where he expresses frustration that evangelical leaders didn’t even abandon Trump following his both-sides-ism after Charlottesville where he said there were "fine people" amongst the nazi demonstrators and the counter-protesters were equally to blame.

March 15, 2018 2:20 AM
Blogger Priya Lynn said...

Here is the uncomfortable reality: I do not believe that most evangelicals are racist. But every strong Trump supporter has decided that racism is not a moral disqualification in the president of the United States. And that is something more than a political compromise. It is a revelation of moral priorities.

That’s worth remembering long after this administration is out of power. Evangelical Christians had the chance to stand up for what’s right, and they failed. Again. As usual.

One problem with Gerson’s piece is that he suggests a handful of evangelical leaders who aren’t on the Trump train, and who provide a more positive path forward for the faith.

Like Tim Keller, “the most influential advocate of a more politically and demographically diverse evangelicalism.” Sure, but Keller also co-founded The Gospel Coalition, a website that routinely publishes articles promoting faith-based bigotry and ignorance. Like this piece all about how if we just describe gay sex acts, people will be too disgusted by it to choose being gay. Or this anti-transgender piece from last week. Or this one, written by a “former” lesbian who “used men’s bathrooms and dressing rooms.” (I know, I know, it makes no sense.) That Tim Keller is supposed to be a role model.

Even before Trump, we saw what happened when evangelical Christians got power. They became an obstacle to scientific progress, made life worse for women trying to take control of their own bodies and LGBTQ people simply wanting equal rights, and played up the Persecution Complex. That all happened while Gerson was in the White House.

Donald Trump didn’t lead evangelicals off a cliff; they were heading in that direction on their own. Trump’s just pushing them off even faster, and they’re kissing his ass on the way down.

Trump has exposed the most problematic evangelical beliefs. But even without him, it’s not like decent people should have been following their lead.

most evangelicals voted for Trump as the lesser of two evils

a few, like Falwell and Franklin Graham, went too far in embracing Trump but they aren't representative

I know a couple of Christians that are also like that, they also listen to Rush Limbaugh, but they are a slender minority

most find Trump repulsive, although they are clear-headed enough to see beyond the hyperbole of the resistance movement and the nearly insane mainstream media

Tim Keller is indeed more typical

the average evangelical is not racist but will continue to hold to biblical truth about homosexuality

and wants nothing to do with politics

virtually every evangelical congregation prays for the President every Sunday morning and did the same when Clinton and Obama were President

and most are grateful Mike Pence is positioned to pick up the pieces when Trump flames out

most evangelicals oppose the gay agenda, and so Priya would probably like to see them dead, but their involvement is limited to voting

they don't have faith in government to solve their problems and don't actively seek that

they serve a Lord who said "my kingdom is not of this world"

The Cook Political Report now lists 47 Republican-held districts in some form of jeopardy — classified as toss-ups, leaning Republican, leaning Democrat and in one case likely to be won by Democrats. An additional 27 GOP seats are on the watch list, considered likely retentions at this moment. By way of contrast, there are just eight Democratic seats listed as either toss-ups or leaning in the Democrats’ direction. Eleven other seats bear watching, according to the Cook team’s analysis.

The Cook analysis rates each district along an ideological scale. The Pennsylvania district showed a Republican lean of plus-11. More than 100 districts nationwide are roughly equal to or far less Republican in their ideological leanings.

Tony Perkins: Liberals Are Using Trump’s Affair to “Shame” Evangelical Voters

Why do so many people point out the hypocrisy of conservative Christians who support Donald Trump? Why do liberals keep mentioning that the people who have long claimed the moral high ground due to their “family values” are currently frolicking in the bottom of the barrel? Why are even fellow Christians quick to shake their heads at white evangelicals who cling to Trump for short term judicial victories?

Religious Right leader Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, knows why: It’s because liberals are trying to “shame evangelicals for their political participation.”

“Folks, you have no reason to be ashamed of supporting this president...you know, if he were to engage in behavior like Bill Clinton, we’re out of here. That support would evaporate quickly,” Perkins said.

So if I have this right, white evangelicals aren’t bothered by politicians’ affairs, as long as they don’t happen in the Oval Office. And calling attention to how conservative Christians are backing Trump no matter what, even though they whined about every little slip-up ever made by Barack Obama, is all part of a plan to make evangelicals feel really bad about themselves so they don’t get involved with politics.

Bullshit. The goal isn’t to shame evangelicals for their political participation. It’s to shame evangelicals for voting for a man who contradicts every value they’ve ever claimed to uphold.

They were lying to the country all this time. They never really cared about the sanctity of marriage, or having a Commander in Chief who was a devout Christian, or the safety of women, or the flip-flopping on previously held positions. All that was merely how they sold their political allegiances to a gullible white evangelical base.

Tony Perkins condemned everything Obama did, as if the man could do no right. Evangelicals screamed about the "immorality" of Michelle Obama for showing her bare arms. And now Perkins constantly shills for Trump, an utter disgrace of a man who can do no wrong. He is the reason evangelicals are becoming synonymous with hypocrites.

Trump’s admission that he made stuff up to Justin Trudeau is particularly bad

In a fundraising speech Wednesday, President Trump admitted once and for all that he just makes stuff up. The man who has racked up more than 2,000 false and misleading claims as president said he insisted to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that United States runs a trade deficit with Canada — despite having “no idea” whether that was the case. (Surprise! It's not.)

“I said, ‘Wrong, Justin, you do.’ I didn’t even know,” Trump said. “I had no idea. I just said, ‘You’re wrong.’ You know why? Because we’re so stupid.”

None of this is hugely surprising. Trump utters way too many falsehoods for it to be a coincidence. And we've seen over and over again — particularly most recently in meetings with lawmakers about guns and immigration — that Trump simply doesn't do his homework beforehand. He generally doesn't seem to have even a cursory understanding of what Congress is up to or about the underlying policies.

But the fact that Trump would make up this particular fact is especially remarkable and ominous.

...he didn't even know that the United States runs a trade surplus with Canada!

...Trudeau knows the truth

...Trump didn't seem to have any understanding of the agreement

...Thus far, Trump has shown no signs that he thinks that FAKE NEWS CREATING style isn't working. And apparently, it's still very much a part of his international diplomacy.

Trump doubled down today on his lie that the U.S. has a trade deficit with Canada.

Professional liar Sarah Huckabee Sanders falsely claimed official U.S. stats are wrong and "they are not taking into account some of the additional things like energy and timber that wouldn't be included in those numbers and once you include those there actually is a deficit".

Even the president's favourite news channel (Fox) called him out on this one tweeting the real trade numbers which do include lumber and energy showing the U.S. has a 2.77 billion 2017 trade surplus with Canada in goods and services and and these numbers appear on several U.S. government web sites as well.

Trump recently signed off on a White House report which says the same thing. His report said two things: "Trade with Canada is good" and there are only two countries in the world the U.S. runs surplus with, the U.K. and Canada.

The evidence is stark and he's clearly been making this up as have other Republicans. The Americans top Nafta negotiator Robert Weitheiser made the same false claim as Trump earlier this month but was also contradicted by his own web site which shows an American trade surplus with Canada.

With Trump's blatant lying (and bragging about it) to an ally top U.S. officials are worried about what such lying could result in in the talks with North Korea if they ever happen.

Yeah, there's a lot of similarities between Trump and Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous - a total and complete lack of concern for the truth and a twisted pride in being liars.

A Comprehensive List of Things Republicans Can No Longer Legitimately Criticize Thanks to Trump

by conservative John Ziegler

After Tuesday’s special election upset loss in Pennsylvania, many in the Republican Party are now resigned to the likely reality that the 2018 elections, which once set up extremely well for the GOP, are going to be a disaster for them. There are many reasons this is the case, but the most prominent, of course, is that the party has allowed itself to be completely defined by President Donald Trump.

Perhaps the most underrated aspect of having sold out so thoroughly to Trump is that the GOP is now almost completely disarmed in their ability to legitimately attack Democratic candidates and office holders on numerous issues, especially in the realm of character. After all, once you have defended and accepted certain behavior from a president, it is awfully difficult, even in a world where hypocrisy is now longer seen as politically lethal, to claim that similar acts are unacceptable for any other elected office.

With this in mind, I recently attempted to put together a comprehensive — and ever growing — list of the things that had they been been true of a Democrat, Republicans and the conservative media would have been on the warpath to destroy them. I came up with almost 100 of them. I am sure the list is incomplete, and will probably grow by the end of the day, but here it is:

GOP and conservative groups account for the bulk of the more than $13.3 million spent by outside organizations on the special election in Pennsylvania's 18th District, according to Federal Election Commission filings and spending disclosures.

Nearly $10.7 million -- about 80% of the outside spending in the district -- has gone to boost Republican candidate Rick Saccone or oppose Democrat Conor Lamb. Conversely, Lamb has benefited from about $2.6 million worth of independent expenditures.

Despite the spending help, Saccone has been locked in a tight contest with Lamb, and actually trailed the Democrat in a Monmouth University poll released the day before the election -- 51% to 45%.

In terms of campaign spending, Lamb's campaign significantly outraised and outspent Saccone's in the race. According to their pre-special election FEC filings, Lamb had raised $3.9 million and spent nearly $3.1 million, while Saccone raised just over $600,000 and spent around $615,000.

The torrent of outside spending has continued unabated in the weeks leading up to election day. Since just March 1, nearly $2.2 million has been spent by outside groups -- about $1.5 million for Saccone, and about $700,000 for Lamb -- on a mix of ad production, ad placement, direct mail, and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Pennsylvania Supreme Court Issues New Congressional Map To Replace Gerrymandered One
Republicans have enjoyed a considerable advantage under the earlier map, which was in place for three congressional elections.

"Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court on Monday issued a new congressional map to replace the state’s current one, which the court said is so partisan it violates the state’s Constitution.

The Supreme Court drew the map after Republican lawmakers and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf (D) failed to come up with an agreement by the Feb. 15 deadline.

In an opinion earlier in February, the state Supreme Court wrote that Pennsylvania’s congressional districts need, at minimum, to be compact and contiguous, to contain roughly the same number of people, and to not split counties and other communities unnecessarily. A map was unconstitutional, the court said, when it prioritized partisan advantage over those criteria...."

A former Trump employee:

"WE ARE IN BIG TROUBLE

As I have previously mentioned, I worked for Trump in the late 1980s for two years.

As such, I have been paying attention to him for decades.

Trump appeared on the NY construction scene in the late 1970s when NOBODY was building. But he was young, brash, and, importantly, had daddy's millions.

He was taken in by a diverse group of older people who had a ton of experience. Many of these people had deals that they could not get financing for. So, Trump found himself in an enviable position. He had little experience but he could access cash.

Two deals which were handed to him was the Commodore Hotel conversion (a huge success) and Trump Tower (a massive success).

Trump received a ton of positive press coverage for these projects and this massively inflated his already overblown ego.

What happened next was instructive.

Trump stopped listening to his sage group of advisors. No, now HE knew better than anybody. And one by one, ALL the talent left the building. And Trump replaced these people with...idiots. Idiots whose only quality was kissing Trump's ass.

I know all this because many of these talented and experienced people vented to me over drinks.

What few people have ever paid attention to is that after Trump Tower, Trump had very few success stories. He purchased the fabled Plaza Hotel. Which he lost a ton of money on and sold at a huge loss. He started an airline. Lost that, too. His casinos lost money. He then went bankrupt. And bankrupt again. And again.

In short, ONLY when Trump surrounded himself with experienced and brilliant people, could he do well.

But Trump alone?

He failed at almost everything.

THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT RIGHT NOW.

Trump is obviously clearing out anybody who does not kiss his ass, and anybody with any brains. He will, you can bet on it, replace these people with PROFOUND ass kissers and idiots.

Two terrifying facts:
1) Trump is deeply threatened by anyone with intelligence/confidence
2) Trump is intolerant of anybody disagreeing with him.

Thus, mark my words: as bad as things have been, they will very soon become unimaginably horrific.

My only hope at this point is Mueller."

Anonymous White TrumpThugs' trials to come said...

A black man brutally beaten at last year’s white supremacist “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville — and who was later charged with assaulting a white nationalist — was acquitted Friday.

DeAndre Harris, 20, a former special education instructional assistant, was found not guilty by Charlottesville General District Court Judge Robert Downer Jr. on a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery against Harold Crews, a North Carolina attorney and state chairman of The League of the South. If Harris had been convicted, he would have faced up to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

The acquittal is a relief for Harris, who was viciously beaten inside a parking garage next to the city’s police department on Aug. 12, 2017. He suffered a spinal injury and head lacerations that required 10 stitches.

Two months later, his legal path took an unexpected turn when Crews filed a police report and then persuaded a Charlottesville magistrate to issue an arrest warrant in October on a felony charge of unlawful wounding, which carries a five-year maximum sentence. The news was cheered online by white nationalists.

Before issuing his ruling, Downer warned the crowd to “restrain” their emotions. As he spoke, it was unclear how he would rule, and many attendees — nearly all of them Harris supporters — looked worried and distressed. In the end, the judge declared Harris not guilty because he said Harris did not intend to hit Crews and only swung a flashlight at him believing Crews was attacking his friend with a flagpole.

Online sleuths, led by Black Lives Matter activist and Intercept journalist Shaun King, helped track down the identities and whereabouts of several of Harris’s assailants: Jacob Scott Goodwin of Arkansas; Daniel Borden of Ohio; Alex Michael Ramos of Georgia; and Tyler Watkins Davis, of Florida. Their trials are scheduled for late April and early May, though Davis’s trial has not been set yet.

YouTube footage from the rally shows a complicated sequence of events that led up to Harris’s beating, right outside the Market Street parking garage, where dozens of members from the League of the South and Traditionalist Worker Party converged with counterprotesters.

In one piece of YouTube footage, Crews is clasping a large flagpole in front of a black protester, who is tugging on the other end. As the two of them tussle over the pole, Harris swings a flashlight at Crews, appearing to strike him on the head or shoulder.

Moments later, several white nationalists — one of them dressed in military tactical gear and holding a plastic shield — storm into the garage, chasing Harris and forcing him to the ground, where he was brutally pummeled.

Video of Harris’s beating tore through the Internet. The sheer ferocity of the assault heightened the public outcry over the rally that also included the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer, a counterprotester who was allegedly run over by white supremacist, James Alex Fields Jr., 20. The rally was organized by white nationalists to oppose the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue from Emancipation Park....

Republicans Got Greedy With Gerrymandering. Now It’s Coming Back To Haunt Them.

When Thomas Hofeller travelled across the country at the beginning of the decade to talk to lawmakers about the redistricting process, he brought a warning: “Don’t get cute.”

Republicans were fresh off a remarkably successful effort to take control of state legislatures so they could control the redistricting process ― a significant victory, because redistricting is only done every 10 years. Hofeller, a veteran Republican redistricting consultant and mapmaker, cautioned lawmakers against drawing “stupid irregularities” in boundaries obviously contorted to include voters likely to support them, The Atlantic reported.

But in 2011, Republicans were focused on maximizing every possible advantage they could squeeze out of the redistricting project, and saw an opportunity to entrench their control of at least 20 seats in the U.S. House. They took it.

Republicans have since enjoyed considerable advantage from those maps. According to an estimate by the Brennan Center for Justice, Republican gerrymandering accounts for 16 or 17 GOP seats in the current Congress that the party may not otherwise control.

But now, that gerrymandering greed of Republicans is coming back to haunt them.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court in January struck down the congressional map state Republicans drew, saying it was so partisan that it violated the state constitution. That same month, a panel of three federal judges struck down North Carolina’s congressional map. In October, the U.S. Supreme Court heard argument in a Wisconsin case may set a standard for defining unconstitutional gerrymandering on partisan grounds.

As these legal contests settle out, it’s worth looking back on how the GOP got here.

The reckoning Republicans are seeing now is one that could have been avoided, lawyers and redistricting experts say, had the GOP not been so ruthless.

Both Democrats and Republicans have gerrymandered in the past to their advantage, but Republicans took it to a new level in 2011. In an amicus brief to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, political science professors Keith Gaddie and Bernard Grofman wrote that there was as much as three times more partisan bias in congressional maps this decade than in ones drawn in 2000. Nicholas Stephanopoulos, a law professor at the University of Chicago helping challenge a Wisconsin map, said a “dramatic number” of the worst gerrymanders of the last half-century have occurred since 2010.

Until the courts began stepping in, Republican gerrymandering paid off. From 2012 to 2016, the GOP won 13 of Pennsylvania’s 18 congressional seats, even though the party’s candidates only got around half of the vote. In Ohio, the party consistently won 12 of 16 congressional seats, but 50 percent of the statewide vote. In Wisconsin, they won at least 60 of 99 state assembly seats, with about half of the popular vote....\

...“The courts are going to police outlier cases, rather than trying to wade into each and every one,” said Justin Levitt, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. “The same principle’s true in any kind of discrimination: The more blatant, the easier it is to establish, and the more likely the courts are to call it out.”

Even if the Supreme Court does decide Republicans went too far with gerrymandering, its anticipated ruling in the spring would likely come too late to affect this year’s congressional elections, and wouldn’t have an impact on maps until at least 2020. Even if Republicans lose the ability to gerrymander in the future, their ruthlessness will have helped them for nearly an entire decade.

In the past several congressional elections Democrat congressman (in both the house and senate) got more votes than Republican congressman but for the most part Republicans won the majority of the seats.

The senate map, electoral college, and all the gerrymandered house seats favour the Republicans. If Republicans had to compete in elections where each vote was equally weighted they'd be the minority in almost every election.

Not to mention the perverted efforts Republicans have put into suppressing minority votes without which they would have again been the minority in almost every election - its a double whammy of cheating by Republicans.

Republicans just can't win in a fair and honest election.

Lamb, who declared victory in the race early Wednesday morning, gained 125 votes during the canvass; Saccone gained 108. By the end of the day, Lamb’s overall margin over Saccone grew to 644, greater than the hundreds of military and overseas ballots that will be counted before the state certifies the election.

“The Committee on House Administration received a request from the Conor Lamb Campaign asking the Committee to send a bipartisan team of observers for the completion of the election process. The Committee then received the same request from the Rick Saccone Campaign. The Committee has oversight over congressional elections, therefore the Committee sent a bipartisan team of observers to observe the completion of the PA-18 election,” committee spokeswoman Erin McCracken said in a statement Friday evening.

Both Lamb and Saccone have begun to move on from Tuesday’s election, and are circulating petitions to run in the new districts created by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned a Republican-drawn gerrymander. Saccone filed on Wednesday to run in the new 14th District, which includes the more rural parts of the expiring 18th, and voted for Donald Trump in 2016 by 30 points; Lamb filed on Friday to run in the new 17th District, which includes the Pittsburgh suburbs that he won on Tuesday as well as more conservative Beaver County. That district, represented now by Rep. Keith Rothfus (R-Penn.), is seen as evenly divided between the parties.

In his first post-election interview, Saccone told Delano on Thursday that he would not concede until “every vote is counted.”

“A team of people is going through that to make sure all the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed,” he explained.

But asked about national Republicans, who have suggested that voting irregularities reported on Election Day might be grounds for legal action, Saccone said he was focused on getting petitions in the new district.

Fox News' incredible Obama-Trump hypocrisy, in 1 damning video

If there's one thing Fox News knows for sure, it's that a U.S. president should absolutely never agree to meet with foreign dictators — unless that president is Donald Trump.

Case in point: Ever since President Trump accepted an invitation from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to meet without any preconditions, Fox News has been touting the diplomatic brilliance of the move. It's a drastic pivot from the network's analysis when former President Barack Obama considered doing so, a NowThis video showed.

Clips from years past show both hosts and guests on the network slamming Obama for being open to meeting with Kim. "He would meet with some of these madmen without any preconditions," said an aghast Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska and Republican vice presidential candidate, of Obama.

But now, Fox News personalities like Sean Hannity appear ready to embrace the idea of negotiating with the isolated nation. Hannity lauded Trump's "major foreign policy breakthrough," while others applauded the "stunning diplomatic triumph" and even floated the idea of the move earning Trump a Nobel Peace Prize.

When Obama was in office, Fox News pundits called the idea of talking North Korea out of its nuclear weapons program "fanciful," and said it was a "bad idea" to meet with "crazy men" like Kim. Trump's decision, on the other hand, is bound to be "magnificent for the people of Korea" and "magnificent for the world." Watch the rest of the flip-flopping, compiled by NowThis, below.

most Americans didn't think that about Hillary, the pedophile's friend, then

and her antics since have shown they were right

she just recently went to a foreign country and said Americans are ignorant

maybe she should find a country she likes to live in

The attorney’s call to end the special counsel probe is a disservice to the president, said Gowdy.

"...Trump’s attorney, John Dowd, said that the Justice Department should immediately end special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential elections. In an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Gowdy said he disagrees.

“To suggest that Robert Mueller should shut down and that all he is looking at is collusion [is wrong],” said Gowdy. “If you have an innocent client, Mr. Dowd, act like it.”

...House Republicans also found no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. That would presumably mean that Trump’s attorney should have nothing to fear from the Mueller investigation, Gowdy added on Sunday.

“If you believe, as we found, there’s no evidence of collusion, you should want special counsel Mueller to take all the time and have all the independence he needs to do his job,” said Gowdy.

While this investigation is going on, Trump is running the most corrupt administration the US has ever seen, so bad that our laws hardly have provisions for stopping him, and time is of the essence as he drains the treasury and undermines the rule of law.

Now we find out that the entire Republican Party is fine with a dictatorship, well there are still enough patriotic Americans in the government, and the rules are spelled out clearly enough, that Trump is going to be brought down hard. But it will take some time to do it the right way.

except that Mueller's investigation never had any legal basis

special prosecutors are supposed to be appointed when someone is suspected of a crime and there is a conflict of interest apparent to investigating the crime

the conduct Trump was accused of by Hillary's researchers was not a crime even if it were true, which it isn't

btw, McCabe statement last week provides more evidence that Comey was guilty of perjury and leaking classified information

if they are not charged, it gives Trump a rationale for pardoning Flynn who was indicted for perjury

"Discrimination."

can be a virtue

all depends what you are discriminating against

people on the upper half of the Carlinian divide understand that

"While this investigation is going on, Trump is running the most corrupt administration the US has ever seen,"

not really

"so bad that our laws hardly have provisions for stopping him,"

what a biased way to admit that Trump has committed no crimes

"and time is of the essence as he drains the treasury and undermines the rule of law."

his deficits are much lower than Obama's and he has been more deferential to both Congres and the courts than Obama

so, where is the law undermined?

"Now we find out that the entire Republican Party is fine with a dictatorship,"

there is absolutely no sense in which Trump has acted as a dictator

unlike Obama, he obeys court orders and doesn't issue illegal executive orders when Congress doesn't give him what he wants

he also hasn't tried to harass and prosecute the press or used the IRS to harass those who disagree with him or used the justice Department to wiretap his political rivals

"well there are still enough patriotic Americans in the government,"

oh, you mean the ones who were fine with Obama unilaterally cancelling missile defense systems to please Putin and giving 150 billion to Iran and allowing Slim Jong Un to develop an ICBM that can strike anywhere in America?

"and the rules are spelled out clearly enough, that Trump is going to be brought down hard."

tell us again what rules those are

this should be amusing

"But it will take some time to do it the right way."

yeah, it's going to take quite some time to find a lie to fit your bias

we had an election

Dems should focus on how they can avoid their mistakes and win the next one instead of flailing around trying to find a way to overturn the verdict of patriotic Americans in November 2016

The firing of Andrew McCabe, the discovery of his “private notes,” the ill-tempered response by other Obama loyalists and a yet to be disclosed Inspector General’s report on an investigation that began before Donald Trump had come to office are all pieces of a story that dwarfs the still absent evidence of anything Trump and company did to cooperate with Russians in changing votes in Michigan and Wisconsin.

So many Democrats and Republicans have asserted the lack of evidence in the Russian collusion issue its become comical if not annoying to endure as the uninformed continue to argue otherwise.

But few have had interest in addressing a separate issue that demands attention. For while the Russians attempted mass chaos. The more serious scandal appears to have covered up criminal behavior, illicit manipulation of the FISA process, and an attempt to undo the quite serious results of an election.

Is there anything more sacred in our representative republic?

The scandal that goes mostly unmentioned began before the election had even occurred but appears to have continued well past the final results of election night, with one candidate winning 30 of 50 states, and racking up a 304 to 227 victory in the electoral college.

A victory that looks increasingly historic in light of what increasingly appears to be the collusion of the then current administration with one campaign, and in instance after instance attempting to push their thumb on the scale of the outcome.

There was collusion in the election of 2016. It involved Russians, a British ex-spy, law firms, FBI agents, DOJ attorneys, an FBI director that prejudged evidence, an Attorney General that had an unethical meeting with the spouse of a target, FISA warrants obtained on faulty information that stemmed from political sources, a Deputy Director whose wife received monetary support in an election, an FBI director who lied to Congress, an FBI Deputy Director who lied to the Justice Department’s Inspector General, loads of classified materials that were mishandled and criminally passed to those without clearances, and partisan hacks spearheading inquiries aiming for political outcomes. The scope of this collusion is overwhelming, the attempts are a damning indictment of political operatives that have lost all integrity, and sadly an administration, a major political party, and agents of a deep state that attempted in a wide sweeping number of ways to undo an election that they lost.

Robert Reich: Donald Trump Has Become The Mad King

Trump is moving into a new and more dangerous phase.

Before, he was constrained by a few “adults”—Rex Tillerson, Gary Cohn, H.R. McMaster, and John Kelly—whom he appointed because he thought they had some expertise he lacked.

Now he’s either fired or is in the process of removing the adults. He’s replacing them with a Star Wars cantina of toadies and sycophants who will reflect back at him his own glorious view of himself, and help sell it on TV.

Narcissists are dangerous because they think only about themselves. Megalomaniacs are dangerous because they think only about their power and invincibility. A narcissistic megalomaniac who’s unconstrained—and who’s also president of the United States—is about as dangerous as they come.

The man who once said he could shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue and still be elected president now openly boasts of lying to the Canadian Prime Minister, decides on his own to negotiate mano a mano with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, unilaterally slaps tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, and demands the death penalty for drug dealers.

For weeks, Trump has been pulling big policy pronouncements out of his derriere and then leaving it up to the White House to improvise explanations and implementation plans.

Trump has always had faith in his instincts. “I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things,”(talks like someone with an 80 IQ, doesn't he?) he said on the campaign trail. "I’m a very instinctual person, but my instinct turns out to be right,” he told Time Magazine last year.

The new Trump doesn’t worry that his approval ratings continue to be in the cellar. By his measure, he’s come out on top: His cable-TV ratings are huge. Fox News loves him. He dominates every news cycle. The pre-selected crowds at his rallies roar their approval.

He’s become the Mad King who says or does anything his gut tells him to, while his courtiers genuflect.

How will this end?

One outcome is Trump becomes irrelevant to the practical business of governing America. He gets all the attention he craves while decision makers in Washington and around the world mainly roll their eyes and ignore him.

There’s some evidence this is already happening. The Republican tax bill bore almost no resemblance to anything Trump had pushed for. Trump’s big infrastructure plan was dead on arrival in Congress. His surprise spending deal with “Chuck and Nancy” went nowhere. His momentary embrace of gun control measures in the wake of a Florida school shooting quickly evaporated.

Meanwhile, world leaders are now taking Trump’s braggadocio and ignorance for granted, acting as if America has no president.

But another possible outcome could be far worse.

Trump could become so enraged at anyone who seriously takes him on that he lashes out, with terrible consequences.

Furious that special counsel Robert Mueller has expanded his investigation, an unbridled Trump could fire him—precipitating a constitutional crisis and in effect a civil war between Trump supporters and the rest of America.

Feeling insulted and defied by Kim, an unconstrained Trump could order an attack on North Korea—precipitating a nuclear war.

The mind boggles. Who knows what a mad king will do when no adults remain to supervise him?

Republicans Balk at Trump’s Attacks on Mueller

With Trump going on perhaps his most ridiculous twitter spree yet, attacking Andrew McCabe and Robert Mueller in strong terms, and his lawyer publicly calling for Mueller to be fired, Congressional leaders reacted by saying he needs to let Mueller do his job.

Republican Senator Jeff Flake, who has criticized Trump harshly, said the president’s latest comments appeared to be aimed at the firing of Mueller. Senator Lindsey Graham, another Republican, said if Trump were to dismiss Mueller it would mark “the beginning of the end of his presidency.”

AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, said: “As the speaker has always said, Mr. Mueller and his team should be able to do their job.”

The comments underscored the risks for Trump if he goes too far to thwart the federal probe.

“I don’t know what the designs are on Mueller, but it seems to be building toward that (firing him), and I just hope it doesn’t go there, because it can’t. We can’t in Congress accept that,” Flake told CNN’s “State of the Union.”…

Republican U.S. Representative Trey Gowdy criticized Dowd in an interview with “Fox News Sunday.”

“I think the president’s attorney, frankly, does him a disservice when he says that and when he frames the investigation that way,” Gowdy said. “If you have an innocent client, Mr. Dowd, act like it.”…

Graham, a co-author of legislation that would make it harder for a president to fire a special counsel, said it was very important that Mueller be allowed to proceed without interference and that many Republicans share this view.

“The only reason Mr. Mueller could ever be dismissed is for cause. I see no cause when it comes to Mr. Mueller,” Graham said on CNN.

When you’ve lost Trey Gowdy, you’ve got a problem. I still maintain two things: That Trump will attempt to fire Mueller and that this would finally be the thing that brings down his presidency. Some think that’s naive on my part given how much he’s gotten away with so far, but I think they’re wrong. First, I think the public outrage would be huge. Americans have an almost innate understanding that no one should be able to end an investigation into their own possible wrongdoing. His most hardcore followers would stick with him, but everyone else would be outraged by it and would believe he was doing it because he was guilty, not innocent.

That outrage would mean a great deal of pressure on Republicans in districts that are not very, very safe to turn on Trump. When you have Republican senators from South Carolina and Arizona already speaking out against it, imagine the pressure on a Republican senator from, say, Ohio or Wisconsin if he actually did fire Mueller? They could not stick by Trump and maintain their ability to get reelected in what would become a Democratic landslide this November.

To this point, virtually all of this has echoed Nixon and Watergate in most of the important ways. And it was not the break in that brought Nixon down, it was the Saturday Night Massacre. That’s what turned the Republicans in Congress against him and forced his resignation. I think that’s the most likely scenario here as well.

The interviews are part of Channel 4 News’ “Data, Democracy and Dirty Tricks” investigation series.

During phone calls and in-person meetings at a London hotel from November 2017 to January 2018, Nix was recorded bragging that his firm and parent company Strategic Communications Laboratories (SCL) secretly influenced more than 200 elections around the world, including those in Nigeria, Kenya, the Czech Republic, India and Argentina.

Cambridge Analytica was also hired by President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. The firm recently made news for using data acquired by Facebook to build “psychographic profiles” about voters without their knowledge.

According to Channel 4′s meetings with Nix, his firm’s methods for influencing an election included putting certain politicians in compromising positions and secretly recording them, as well as conducting their work using fake IDs, websites, and under different company names so that the company’s relationship with the client is not publicly known.

“We do incognito very well indeed,” Nix said according to one December interview cited by Channel 4.

The company’s chief data officer, Dr. Alex Tayler, is also listed as having attended two of the meetings with the Channel 4 reporter.

During another interview in January, Nix reportedly said that one method of finding dirt on a candidate was to essentially create it.

“We’ll have a wealthy developer come in, somebody posing as a wealthy developer,” he said. “They will offer a large amount of money to the candidate, to finance his campaign in exchange for land, for instance. We’ll have the whole thing recorded on cameras, we’ll blank out the face of our guy and we post it on the internet.”..."

You see it again and again, liberals are far, far more honest and committed to fairness than conservatives are.

Likely because Liberals value fairness as their highest priority and while conservatives value fairness to a degree, it is a much lower priority than loyalty to their group is. Conservatives will happily sacrifice fairness to benefit their tribe while Liberals more so see the whole planet as their tribe and value first treating everyone fairly.

Donald Trump's Approval Rating Sets Record Low, Below Even Gerald Ford

President Donald Trump may have seen his approval rating get a slight bump this month, but he is lagging well behind his predecessors at this point of his presidency, a new poll shows.

The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Sunday shows Trump’s approval rating stands at 43 percent, an increase of 4 percent from the same poll taken in January.

Unfortunately for President Trump, the poll shows the majority (53 percent) continue to disapprove of his performance.

In addition, the president is seeing a far lower approval rating than his predecessors at this point during his presidency, NBC News reported, stating the average approval rating at 14 months into a president’s first term is around 58 percent—15 percent higher than Trump’s rating. Indeed, CNN reported, Trump is one point below Gerald R. Ford, who had a 44 percent approval rating at this point in his presidency.

Donald Trump has enjoyed a slight bump in approval ratings but still lags behind his predecessors. Reuters

However, former president Barack Obama was around the 48/49 percent approval rating 14 months into his presidency, according to Gallup, while George W. Bush enjoyed approval ratings in the high 70s 14 months into his first term.

Despite polls suggesting Trump is less popular than his predecessors, the president recently instructed people to ignore such polls, also claiming he was more popular than former president Barack Obama.

“Rasmussen and others have my approval ratings at around 50%, which is higher than Obama, and yet the political pundits love saying my approval ratings are 'somewhat low,'" he tweeted at the beginning of March.

Additionally, the new poll shows Democrats are currently 10 points ahead of the GOP in Congressional preference going into the 2018 midterms.

The NBC/WSJ poll, which surveyed 1,100 adults from March 10-14, shows 50 percent of voters would prefer the democrats controlled congress, compared to the 40 percent who want Congress to remain in the control of Republicans.

The latest figures show a four-point jump from the same poll taken in January, when the Democrats enjoyed a six-point advantage over republicans in terms of Congressional preference.

However, the increasing support for a Democrat-controlled Congress comes alongside a slight bump in approval for President Donald Trump, although this is well outweighed by those who disapprove of his performance.

A majority of Americans believes a faction of unelected officials is orchestrating policy in Washington, D.C., according to a new poll.

The Monmouth University Polling Institute found that 74 percent of respondents believe in a “deep state” when it is described as a collection of unelected officials running policy. Twenty-one percent said they do not believe this kind of group exists.

The poll notes that more than 7 in 10 Americans polled in each political group, Republican, Democrat and independent, believe in a deep state.

“We usually expect opinions on the operation of government to shift depending on which party is in charge,” Monmouth University Polling Institute Director Patrick Murray said in a statement. “But there’s an ominous feeling by Democrats and Republicans alike that a ‘Deep State’ of unelected operatives are pulling the levers of power.”

Trump appointed a war criminal to head the CIA - the hypocrisy of American leaders

If the name John Kiriakou sounds familiar, it should. He is the former had of counterterrorism operations for the CIA in Pakistan whose team group captured Abu Zubaida, one of the people tortured under the watch of Gina Haspel, now Trump’s nominee to head the CIA. He has an op-ed about it in the WAshington Post.

I knew what was happening to Abu Zubaida because of my position in CIA operations at the time. I kept my mouth shut about it, even after I left the CIA in 2004. But by 2007, I had had enough.

President George W. Bush had steadfastly denied to the American people that there was a torture program. I knew that was a lie. I knew torture didn’t work. And I knew it was illegal. So in December 2007, I granted an interview to ABC News in which I said that the CIA was torturing its prisoners, that torture was official U.S. government policy and that the policy had been personally approved by the president. The FBI began investigating me immediately.

A year later, the Justice Department concluded that I had not committed a crime. But CIA leaders were still furious that I had aired the agency’s dirty laundry. The CIA asked the new Obama Justice Department to reopen the case against me. It did, and three years later, I was charged with five felonies , including three counts of espionage, resulting from that ABC News interview and a subsequent interview with the New York Times . Of course, I hadn’t committed espionage, and the charges were eventually dropped, but only after I agreed to plea to a lesser charge. I served 23 months in prison.

So let’s compare and contrast. Haspel carries out torture, something so forbidden by the UN Convention Against Torture that any nation may prosecute her for it, and destroys the evidence of it to avoid Congressional oversight. She is given multiple promotions and now is in line to run the entire agency she has brought such shame to. Kiriakou blows the whistle on torture and spends two years in prison and his career is over. Because he told the truth. He is blunt — and correct — in his assessment of the situation:

And the message it sends to our friends and allies (and the countries we criticize in the State Department’s annual human rights reports) is this: We say we’re a shining city on a hill, a beacon of respect for human rights, civil rights, civil liberties and the rule of law. But actually, that’s nonsense. We say those things when it’s expedient. We say them to make ourselves feel good. But when push comes to shove, we do what we want, international law be damned.

Blogger Priya Lynn said...

The meaning of Haspel’s nomination won’t be lost on our enemies, either. The torture program and similar abuses at military-run prisons in Iraq were among the greatest recruitment tools that al-Qaeda, the Islamic State and other bad actors ever had, according to legal experts, U.S. lawmakers and even the militants themselves. It energized them and gave them something to rally against. It sowed an even deeper hatred of the United States among militant groups. It swelled their ranks. It was no coincidence that the Islamic State paraded its prisoners in front of cameras wearing orange jumpsuits (like those worn by Guantanamo Bay detainees) before beheading them. Haspel and the others at the CIA who engineered and oversaw the torture program are at least partially responsible for that, because they showed the world how the United States sometimes treats captives.

We are hypocrites. We have always been hypocrites. We talk so grandly about human rights but violate them with impunity every single day. We lecture the world about the importance of the rule of law, then blatantly apply the law only to others and not to ourselves. That’s the government. The American people? Frankly, they couldn’t possibly care any less. Run a flag up a pole and they’ll still salute, no matter how drenched it may be in blood and shame. They’ll still get weepy-eyed when Lee Greenwood sings.

This is not patriotism, it is mindless, tribalistic nationalism. True patriotism is demanding that your government live up to the ideals it professes. John Kiriakou is a patriot. Gina Haspel is a war criminal and a felon and a disgrace to the constitution she swore to uphold.

In this thread at May 14, 2017 5:26 PM you accused a transwoman you never met of molesting "all the young girls she wants in the bathroom".

but you're always willing to support the deceit of your tribe

the quote you bring up, from 10 months ago, is apparently all you can find since you keep bringing up the same one

as I pointed out a couple of weeks ago, the quote is out of context and I provided clarification in case anyone's confused

but, of course, clarification is the last thing a liar like you wants to see

the problem for you is that if no one says that then you can't keep going on about how there's no proof that a trans has attacked anyone in a rest room

that's irrelevant because no one ever said this happens

and remember, there's is no proof, none whatsoever, that trans are any danger when they use the bathroom assigned to their actual gender

President Donald Trump has added a longtime Washington lawyer to his legal team who has publicly promoted a theory that officials in the FBI and Justice Department are plotting to frame the president with a "false crime" in the Russia investigation.

Joseph diGenova, a former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, was recently joined Trump's legal team, Jay Sekulow, one of the president's lawyers.

"I have worked with Joe for many years and have full confidence that he will be a great asset in our representation of the president," Sekulow said in a statement.

DiGenova has strongly touted the idea that the Russia investigation is tainted by bias, with the lawyer saying that there is a secret "brazen plot" by the FBI to "illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton and, if she didn't win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime."

"The motive would be that they didn't like Donald Trump, they didn't think that he was fit to be president, and they were going to do everything within their power to exonerate Hillary Clinton, and if she lost to frame Donald Trump with a false crime, because they didn't think he should be president," DiGenova said.

The news comes as the president characterized Mueller's Russia investigation as a "WITCH HUNT!" and said the probe "should never have been started" because it was "based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign.

Lobbyist says he was nearly killed by man he hired to investigate Seth Rich’s death

As conspiracy theories swirled around the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich, lobbyist Jack Burkman took the unusual step of launching his own private investigation. A man with military and security experience stepped up to help.

Now Burkman alleges that man, Kevin Doherty, nearly killed him.

Burkman, a conservative lobbyist who has also raised money for Rick Gates, a former Trump campaign official who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, and protested gay athletes in the NFL, is used to controversy. But Doherty’s arrest Saturday by Arlington County police on charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony caps a saga stranger than Burkman’s own conspiracy theories.

“It’s a horror story,” Burkman, of Arlington, said in an interview Monday afternoon. He is still recovering after being shot several times and run over by an SUV last Tuesday.

Doherty briefly worked for Burkman’s Profiling Project, which was formed to build a psychological portrait of Rich’s likely killer. Burkman was offering a six-figure reward for information on the slaying of Rich, which police have determined was most likely a random robbery but many conservatives have claimed was part of a political conspiracy....

...In February, Burkman had moved on to a new investigation. He had put out a call for whistleblowers in the FBI, offering $25,000 for any information exposing wrongdoing in the presidential election.

Soon, he thought he had hit the jackpot. A man reached out, describing himself as a senior FBI official with information about then-agency deputy director Andrew McCabe, who at the time was under an internal investigation for his handling of probes into Hillary Clinton. (On Friday, McCabe was fired, after an internal investigation found he had dealt improperly with the media and then lied about it. He has denied wrongdoing.)

His source dropped off two packets of emails under a cone in a garage at the Marriott in Rosslyn, Burkman said.

“I thought I had the story of the decade,” Burkman recalled. His wife, Susan, was more skeptical. She warned him that she didn’t think he was dealing with the FBI. But, he said, the emails “looked super real,” containing details about the secretive Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court.

The last drop was supposed to be “the big one” — the full inspector general report on McCabe, which still has not been released. Instead, when Burkman bent over to pull the papers out from under the cone, he was shot in the buttocks and thigh. As he ran out of the garage with his dachshund in his arms, he was hit by an SUV.

He said the car backed up to hit him again...

Whistleblower: Trump Pushed Out Top Diplomats for Disloyalty

Two top House Democrats said Thursday that they have proof the Trump administration engaged in an intentional effort to rid the State Department of career officials they suspected of being “disloyal” to President Trump, citing documents a whistleblower gave to the panel.

The ranking Democrats on the House Foreign Affairs and Oversight and Government Reform committees sent a letter to White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, writing that they received documents “indicating that high-level officials at the White House and State Department worked with a network of conservative activists to conduct a ‘cleaning’ of employees they believed were not sufficiently ‘supportive’ of President Trump’s agenda.”…

The whistleblower’s evidence appears to confirm a report from last year in Politico that Sahar Nowrouzzadeh, a State Department staffer who worked on the Iran deal, was reassigned after critical stories about her appeared in conservative media.

“Over the past year, we have heard many reports of political attacks on career employees at the State Department, but we had not seen evidence of how extensive, blunt, and inappropriate these attacks were until now,” Reps. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) and Eliot L. Engel (D-N.Y.) wrote in the letter.

There is also evidence that several more career staffers beyond Nowrouzzadeh were targeted, according to a congressional aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss complaints involving personnel matters.

This certainly fits with what we know about Trump, who demands absolute loyalty (and gives none in return, of course, throwing people under the bus whenever he gets upset about the slightest thing) and has no respect whatsoever for the difference between political appointees and career civil servants. This is a dangerous thing because career civil servants provide institutional memory and non-partisan expertise that political appointees rarely have, or care to have.

The State Department has been absolutely decimated in the 14 months since Trump was inaugurated, losing most of its senior diplomatic staff and not even bothering to replace them. That’s partly because most Republican foreign policy experts refuse to work for Trump, who has made quite clear that he has no use for, interest or ability to engage in diplomacy at all. And it’s partly because they refuse to even consider someone who might have said anything critical of Trump or who will not offer some loyalty pledge to him.

In Trump’s mind, the oath of office that a civil servant takes might as well start “I solemnly swear to do the bidding of Donald Trump until my usefulness to him is gone, at which time he may publicly humiliate me and destroy my career” rather than swearing to faithfully uphold the Constitution of the United States. It’s all about him. It’s always all about him.

Why Trump is Suddenly Lashing Out at Mueller

Despite having asked Don McGahn to fire Robert Mueller last year, Trump had, until a few days ago, been fairly careful in public not to attack Mueller himself. Now suddenly he’s gone on the offensive and CNN explains why — because his attorneys met with Mueller’s people last week and they now know what kinds of questions he wants to ask of Trump.

Mueller’s team added granularity to the topics it originally discussed with the defense team months ago, like the firing of FBI Director James Comey, according to one of the sources. This time around, for instance, the prosecutors said they would ask about Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ involvement in the Comey dismissal and what Trump knew about national security adviser Michael Flynn’s phone calls with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in late December 2016.

The meeting makes clear that Mueller’s investigation into contact between Russians and the Trump campaign and other criminal matters isn’t likely to end anytime soon and still may focus on Trump and what he knew. The meeting and its revelations also have unleashed a new level of Trump’s public hostility toward Mueller, even while some of the President’s advisers show a willingness to negotiate Trump’s testimony…

One source familiar with the matter said the President has vacillated on agreeing to an interview in recent months. Trump was interested in speaking with Mueller’s team if the probe would end soon, as his lawyers had long promised, another source said. But once the President realized Mueller’s work isn’t nearing a conclusion, he’s become more agitated and has lashed out on Twitter.

“They (the legal team) created the expectation that the probe was going to be done in December,” and that expectation, plus the recent discussions and a subpoena of Trump Organization documents, set the President off.

Both sides could reach an agreement about the proposed sit-down interview — and whether they’ll even allow it — in the coming weeks, according to a source familiar with the matter.

I’m frankly not sure why Mueller is even bothering with negotiations at this point, and perhaps Trump’s tirade on Twitter will make him fed up enough that he stops. Ultimately, he holds the cards here. There is no precedent by which Trump could refuse a subpoena requiring him to testify before a grand jury, so the only reason to negotiate is out of either courtesy or strategy. But it must be clear by now that the only goal of Trump’s attorneys is to keep him from screwing himself by testifying, which means the only correct strategy is to prevent them from limiting that exposure.

If I were Mueller, I would simply issue a subpoena and set a date. Trump and his attorneys would then have a choice: Quickly try to negotiate the most favorable terms they can and go forward with his testimony, or publicly refuse to do so and end up being forced to by the courts, without such relatively favorable terms. And Trump would absolutely go ballistic over it.

The Terrifying Practice of Police ‘Testilying’

The New York Times has a long investigative report about the practice of “testilying” by police officers — lying under oath while testifying in court, and proven to be lying, usually by surveillance video they didn’t know existed. Most disturbingly, the records of their lies were often sealed afterward. A textbook example:

Officer Nector Martinez took the witness stand in a Bronx courtroom on Oct. 10, 2017, and swore to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help him God.

There had been a shooting, Officer Martinez testified, and he wanted to search a nearby apartment for evidence. A woman stood in the doorway, carrying a laundry bag. Officer Martinez said she set the bag down “in the middle of the doorway” — directly in his path. “I picked it up to move it out of the way so we could get in.”

The laundry bag felt heavy. When he put it down, he said, he heard a “clunk, a thud.”

What might be inside?

Officer Martinez tapped the bag with his foot and felt something hard, he testified. He opened the bag, leading to the discovery of a Ruger 9-millimeter handgun and the arrest of the woman.

But a hallway surveillance camera captured the true story: There’s no laundry bag or gun in sight as Officer Martinez and other investigators question the woman in the doorway and then stride into the apartment. Inside, they did find a gun, but little to link it to the woman, Kimberly Thomas. Still, had the camera not captured the hallway scene, Officer Martinez’s testimony might well have sent her to prison.

This is the sort of thing that goes on all the time, of course. I’ve reported on dozens and dozens of such cases over the last 15 years. And as cell phone and hidden surveillance cameras become more ubiquitous, the pace at which we are able to catch these lies picks up speed. The Times investigation found 25 such cases involving NYPD officers in the last three years, but note that this is almost certainly just a tiny, tiny percentage of the number of times it has happened:

March 20, 2018 10:30 PM
Blogger Priya Lynn said...

The 25 cases identified by The Times are almost certainly only a fraction of those in which officers have come under suspicion for lying in the past three years. That’s because a vast majority of cases end in plea deals before an officer is ever required to take the witness stand in open court, meaning the possibility that an officer lied is seldom aired in public. And in the rare cases when an officer does testify in court — and a judge finds the testimony suspicious, leading to the dismissal of the case — the proceedings are often sealed afterward.

They lie like this for many reasons, but chief among them is to overcome the already low burden to justify a search. They claim to have observed something that meets the “reasonable suspicion” standard that can justify a search without a warrant. That burden is already far too low, but police officers want it not to exist at all. So they lie to get around it, feeling secure that they won’t get caught, and if they do get caught it will all end up sealed and they won’t be punished. And they’re usually right.

Juries almost automatically believe what a police officer says in a trial, but we have so many cases of this at this point that reality has been stood on its head. It might well be more justified to presume that they’re lying rather than telling the truth because they have many powerful incentives to do so. At the very least, I think this needs to become a standard part of jury instructions, that they must evaluate the truthfulness of all testimony, including that of police officers.

Make no mistake about it — innocent people have their lives destroyed by such lies every single day. Justice is undermined. The system is corrupted. And most of the victims are racial minorities.

Trump White House Avoids Calling Austin Bomber, a Devout Christian, a Terrorist

This answers the age-old question: Can a conservative white man (and murderer), who has been identified as a “devout Christian,” be considered a “terrorist”?

The answer, at least for this administration, appears to be, “No, that title is reserved for Muslim extremists.”

Regardless of your political views, it’s hard to deny that Mark Anthony Conditt (above) terrorized the community of Austin with his malicious acts. He struck fear into their hearts, intimidating people in the area, to promote his own agenda (whatever that was). That’s the very definition of terrorism.

The fact that Conditt isn’t being immediately described with the “T” word by people like Sarah Huckabee Sanders might have something to do with the fact that he was a homeschooled Christian who opposed gay marriage and abortion.

If his skin were a little browner, or his faith a little less Christian, how quick would this administration be to use the word “terrorist” to describe him? Even Breitbart referred to his actions as part of a “three-week terror campaign.”

And in it, he absolutely scorched the earth. Peters railed against the network — calling it a “propaganda machine” for President Donald Trump‘s “ethically ruinous” administration. “I feel that Fox News is assaulting our constitutional order and the rule of law, while fostering corrosive and unjustified paranoia among viewers,” Peters wrote. “Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. still beating that dead horse, Priya?

as I've said before, if you want to post the whole conversation, I'll show you how you've taken it out of context

but only for the sake of other readers who may stumble upon this cesspool

you are already aware you are lying

"And today you've repeatedly said that statement of yours wasn't a lie. So, in effect you've repeatedly accused transwomen of preying on biological women in the bathroom and you've lied every time you've said "No one has said transwomen sexually assault biological women in the bathroom.""

and here Priya expands on the lie

textbook case of pathological lying by Priya

who saw that coming?

"Be a man/woman and admit your obvious lie and apologize."

look at Priya, as confused about gender as ever

"Last year, the Maryland Citizens for Responsible Government launched its own awareness campaign over transgender bathroom use: the “Not My Shower” initiative. Ruth Jacobs, the group’s president, says the campaign is meant to publicize the flip-side of transgender rights—privacy infringement for “normal people.”

“If somebody with an opposite body part is allowed in to a ladies’ restroom—a guy who has a penis, who could put his penis inside my vagina—what am I to do?” says Jacobs. “We need to be able to retain the right to speak up about men in our bathrooms without being labeled bigots.”"

it's a good point

women want their privacy and not to be in the presence of someone who could have a motive to sexually assault them

they have no way of reading minds about whether the person with male anatomy is a real pervert or just a guy pretending to be a pervert as a rouse to sneak in

you can say that would never happen but women have the right to make that determiation for themselves

there is no evidence whatsoever that perverts are in danger if they are required by some business owners to use the restroom assigned their gender

a lot of homeschoolers do that while their kids are high school age

further, the quote by Jacobs simply refers to those with male anatomy without specifying whether they are trans or not

her group points that there is no way to determine if a guy coming in to the rest room is trans or not

and further, Jacobs didn't say the male would attack a girl but simply that a girl might worry about it

Last we checked in with Dr. Ruth Jacobs, president of the Maryland Citizens for Responsible Government, she was explaining why transgender women should not be allowed in her bathroom: “If somebody with an opposite body part is allowed in to a ladies’ restroom—a guy who has a penis, who could put his penis inside my vagina—what am I to do?” Jacobs said. “We need to be able to retain the right to speak up about men in our bathrooms without being labeled bigots.”

Okay! Well, now Dr. Jacobs is back to apply her anatomical expertise to the issue of gay marriage. Let's see what she has to say!

Thanks to Metro Weekly for getting this all on tape. Here are the money quotes:

* "An anus was designed for exit, not entrance."

* "Who will protect the children?"

* "Once it becomes law, you cannot opt out . . . students are terrified to be taken out of sex ed. They get on their knees and beg to their parents to be included. Because, to be outside is to be labeled the conservative. To go to the library while everyone else is in class having sex ed, means that you then—-when you refuse to go to sex ed, you then become the group that is discriminated against."

* "46 percent of black men . . . are HIV positive" (No).

* Marriage and the vagina and the penis are designed to go together, and the penis and the anus do not."

* And a dose of reality courtesy of Councilmember David Catania: "If your testimony is that you're only eligible to marry if your population has a low HIV rate, the first in line . . . are lesbians. So based on your testimony, we could only marry lesbians."

JACOBS: It opens up the bathrooms to men who may be just cross-dressers, who may be a pedophile who uses the law to nefarious advantage. It’s a very dangerous bill. In this law, you’re afraid to complain because [you think] Oh my goodness — maybe I’ll be considered a bigot. But, of course it could be somebody who’s trying to rape me.

This takes away from a woman being a woman. Somebody else is just like you. These people are confused about their gender.

The bill is a direct attack on women’s privacy.

There are really three major geostrategic players in the Middle East: Israel, Saudi Arabia and Iran. The U.S. is never going to stop supporting Israel, so that’s a given. It’s the balance of power between Saudi Arabia and Iran that is the pivotal factor in keeping the region stable. Trump’s flirtation with canceling the Iran nuclear deal, which is likely to finally happen in May when the next certification of compliance from the White House is due, is a massive threat to regional stability. This strong tilt toward Saudi Arabia can only exacerbate the situation. With the wars in Syria and Yemen already in full swing, the odds of a region-wide war are much higher with Trump’s change in stance than they were before.

And it goes beyond the Middle East as well. If Trump cancels the Iran agreement, why would North Korea even consider a negotiated solution to their nuclear program? If the U.S. refuses to keep up its end of the bargain even while our own intelligence services say that Iran is in full compliance with the agreement, there is no reason to believe that any agreement would be worth the paper it’s printed on. I wouldn’t bother negotiating with us either under those circumstances.

Trump is the worst possible kind of person to have this kind of power — totally uneducated on nearly every issue, so arrogant that he thinks he can’t possibly learn anything from the professionals at the State Department or the CIA who have worked on Middle East policy for decades, impulsive and easily manipulated. It’s a recipe for disaster and that may be exactly what we’re headed for.

The Laughable Way Republicans Decide If There Is Voter Fraud

Tuesday was the last day of a trial challenging a Kansas state law that has disenfranchised tens of thousands of eligible voters. Kris Kobach, who once led Trump’s sham anti-voter fraud commission (actually a commission to implement voter suppression), represented the state in defending the law and made a fool of himself repeatedly, including getting fined and may well end up being held in criminal contempt of court as well.

Richman produced a study for Kobach last year alleging that as many as 18,000 non-citizens were registered to vote in Kansas. However, the study offered evidence of only six noncitizens who attempted to register. Richman admitted in court that he didn’t know if they had succeeded in registering or voting. And the methodology Richman used to identify noncitizen voters was deeply flawed: He simply flagged people with “foreign”-sounding names, although he was inconsistent in his execution. As Talking Points Memo reported, “two respondents with the last name Lopez were coded as foreign, and three Lopezes were not.”

On the sixth day of the trial, Ho read a series of names and asked Richman if he would label them as foreign-sounding. When he came to the name Carlos Murguia, Richman said he probably would flag it as foreign. Ho responded that Carlos Murguia was a federal judge in that very courthouse in Kansas City.

The judge in the case, Julie Robinson, was a George W. Bush appointee, but she has repeatedly reprimanded Kobach for his appalling conduct in court. She fined him early on in the case for failing to turn over evidence, then he did the same thing all over again just before the trial started. On Tuesday, she actually pounded her desk while demanding to know why he didn’t notify some 35,000 voters who were prevented from registering because they didn’t have a birth certificate or passport that they were eligible to vote. The ACLU is asking that he be held in contempt for failing to do so as the judge had ordered, so he may well find himself in even more trouble, hopefully including some jail time.

And now Kobach is running for governor. Welcome to the age of Trump.

Homeschooling refers to keeping a child out of public school grades 1 through 12 and "educating" them at home instead.

MICHIGAN: Police Raid Catholic Diocese And Bishop’s Home, Cite Lack Of Cooperation In Sexual Abuse Probe

Police were serving search warrants Thursday in connection with the investigation of Saginaw area priests. A contingent of law enforcement officials from multiple agencies raided Bishop Joseph Cistone’s residence, the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw offices and St. Mary’s Cathedral in Saginaw.

Police obtained the three search warrants that were being executed as part of the investigation that started Feb. 25 with the arrest of the Rev. Robert DeLand. Saginaw County Assistant Prosecutor Mark Gaertner said Cistone and the diocese have not lived up to promises to support investigators looking into sexual abuse allegations against DeLand and other church officials.

“Contrary to the statements from the diocese and the bishop that they would fully cooperate with law enforcement, they did not,” Gaertner said. “Therefore, it was necessary for law enforcement to utilize other investigative tools, including search warrants.”

Six years ago, Cistone was accused of misleading a grand jury by not acknowledging that he witnessed the shredding of documents that contained the names of priests suspected of child molestation in 1994 while he was serving as a church official in the Philadelphia area. He never faced any criminal charges in that case.

No surprise here, that's another lie. I never said any such thing.

What I (and every democrat I read) said was that the tax cuts would do nothing to help the economy as they go almost entirely to the top 1% who have no need of it and essentially remove that money from the economy - virtually none of it would go to lowly workers would actually spend it and stimulate the economy.

And of course that's been the case. Corporations have announced that 98% of the money they got from tax cuts will go to stock buybacks that will benefit the extremely wealthy and 2% will go to workers.

as I've done before when you made this assinine statement, I challenge you to provide any documentation of this imaginary "consensus"

go ahead, we'll wait

"A new study out of Yale University confirms what argumentative liberals have long-known: Offering reality-based rebuttals to conservative lies only makes conservatives cling to those lies even harder. In essence, schooling conservatives makes them more stupid.

LOL, we've seen that in spades on this thread, show anonymous where they lied about "no one has said transwomen attack girls in the bathroom" and they cling to that lie all the harder."

Facts are facts, Priya. No one said that transters will attack girls in the rest room. They said that no one would be able to distinguish between transters, who are obviously asexual, and other guys. This would worry females and they shouldn't have to worry when there is no proof that requiring transters to use their gender-assigned restroom would put them in danger. The TTF position is anti-woman.

Priya and a couple other TTFers have scoured the internet vainly for even one statement that says transters would attack girls when there would be thousands if what they said were true.

It isn't true.

Priya is a liar.

"No surprise here, that's another lie. I never said any such thing."

I don't know if you did or not. Really don't keep track of your fantasy world.

But most liberals were making the argument that a tax cut on top of full employment would overheat the economy.

"You don't get to choose who can share the bathroom with you."

an anti-woman statement

"Homeschooling refers to keeping a child out of public school grades 1 through 12 and "educating" them at home instead."

I didn't say he wasn't homeschooled. I said he went to public school as well. While he was high school aged, his parents enrolled him in community college. Priya was saying public schools were great because they forced kids to hang around with "all kinds of people" and implied this kid was deprived of that experience. But, he went to a community college where he was exposed to "all kinds of people", like drug dealers, perverts, violent bullies, off-kilter Canadians, and kids that want to randomly bomb the innocent.

two things:

1. what I said was clear and Priya's attempts to twist it just demonstrates again that Priya is a liar

2. despite all the dust Priya kicks up, the deep state's conspiracy against the President continues to be exposed

Some time back Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous feigned outrage that I said one of his/her's ten commandments was "Thou shalt not lie".

Wyatt/Regina (contrary to the majority of christian theologins) said the "thou shalt not bear false witness" commandment was not a general prohibition against lying, it was a prohibition against a narrow range of lying, lies about what your neighbour has done, that other kinds of lies were okay.

And so here we have Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous bearing false witness against their neighbour, falsely accusing an innocent transwoman of sexually assaulting young girls in the bathroom. Clearly they couldn't care less about violating their christian ten commandments even when they do so in the childishly narrowed confines of their own "logic".

They really are a couple of scumbags.

Just like a woman doesn't have a right to tell a black woman she can't share the public bathroom with her, no woman has the right to tell a transwoman she can't share the bathroom with her.

That's why they're called public bathrooms - you don't get to chose who can use it and who can't. This isn't Nazi Germany.

Gays and lesbians are the victims of hate crimes far more often than any other group except transgender women who are the victim of hate crimes far more often than gays and lesbians. And the perpetrators are almost always men.

If transwomen use the men's bathroom it will out them as transwomen and anti-lgbt men like Wyatt will assault or murder them - that is common sense. Wyatt/Regina knows this and that's why they promote the idea that no harm will come to transwomen forced to use the men's bathroom. They after all has spoken approvingly of imprisoning and executing gays and regularly called for the assault of transgender school children.

Bigoted women don't even know they are sharing the bathroom with transwomen in the vast majority of cases. This is a non-existent problem evil people like Wyatt/Regina want to solve by putting innocent transwomen in danger.

Trump Hires The Best People

As expected, Trump has fired HR McMaster and replaced him with John Bolton, the absolute worst possible person to be the National Security Adviser. Didn’t think Trump could make things worse? Oh foolish, foolish person. We are now all officially screwed.

The appointment of Bolton, which doesn’t require Senate confirmation, could lead to dramatic changes in the administration’s approach to crises around the world.

His appointment is certain to scramble the White House’s preparations for a proposed summit by the end of May between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Bolton is a fierce North Korea hawk who, in his prolific writings and television commentary, has said that preemptive war would likely be the only way to stop North Korea from obtaining the capability to attack the United States with a nuclear missile…

Bolton has been even more hawkish than Trump on Iran, pushing for the president to withdraw from the nuclear agreement that the United States and five other world powers reached with Tehran during the Obama administration.

In January, Bolton told Fox News that Trump should dump the nuclear deal, reimpose economic sanctions on Tehran, and work toward an overthrow of the government there.

Yes, let’s go to war against North Korea and watch a million or more South Koreans die, along with untold numbers of North Koreans, who are virtually brainwashed into supporting Kim. Why should Bolton care? They’re just dark-skinned people, not actual human beings or anything, as far as he’s concerned. And let’s just tear up the Iran agreement, which they are in full compliance with, tell the world that America can never be trusted to keep its promises, and get involved in yet another endless war that kills millions and costs trillions and further destabilizes the Middle East. Brilliant strategy.

This one single move could very well result in the deaths of millions and millions of innocent people. What more do you need to know than that?

And of course, let’s not forget that this is yet another story that was “fake news” but then actually happened. At this point, every time Trump or one of his underlings claims that a story in the media is false, you can be damn sure it isn’t.

oh, I've given your lies much, much more consideration then they deserve

In this thread at May 14, 2017 5:26 PM anonymous said "[Transwoman's name redacted] can prey on young girls in the ladies' room as much as possible""

as I've pointed out severally, you've taken this statement out of context

you have yet to post the whole conversation

there's a reason for that

and, it's also worth pointing that, even if the statement is taken literally, and incorrectly, without context, it only refers to one individual, not transters in general

I've met some transters

never met one I thought didn't seem like a nice enough guy

then, there's you

haven't met you but, based on your activity here, you are a piece of work

just stay out of our country

btw, did you hear that tourism to the US is down this year?

except for one country

Canadian trips to the US are up 5% over last year

I think everyone's looking to get away from the mess being made by the Nehru Boy!

but Priya's not getting in here

obviously, Jacobs is saying women are uncomfortable with any men in the girls' room

not just transters

"Some time back anonymous feigned outrage that I said one of THE ten commandments was "Thou shalt not lie"."

I wasn't outraged, nor did I feign that I was

it was a perfect opportunity to point how illiterate you are

do it again!

"anonymous (contrary to the majority of christian theologins) said the "thou shalt not bear false witness" commandment"

not sure what a theologin is but you have again misquoted Exodus 20:16

here it is in the English Standard Version, the most reliable English translation:

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

doesn't seem too hard to understand, it's a very perspicuous statement

and I don't why you find it so hard to quote accurately

"was not a general prohibition against lying, it was a prohibition against a narrow range of lying, lies about what your neighbour has done, that other kinds of lies were okay"

I never said it was only a prohibition against a "narrow range of lying"

bearing false witness against your neighbor is a very broad group of lies

further, I never "other kinds of lies were okay"

I did point out that there are very common lies told by everyone that are fine

you may be amused to know that Yale recently did a study that found a very important stage in child development is learning when it is appropriate to lie

another stage of psychological development you must have missed

"And you march in lockstep with the GOP"

I think you missed the memo. Most of the liberals have stopped using "lockstep" to deceptively mischaracterize people who disagree with them

the new fashionable deceptive insult is "tribe"

you need to keep up

"Hillary was right. You right-wingers are deplorable."

and, by "right wing", you mean anyone who disagrees with Hillary, right

I'm a registered Democrat who has libertarian tendencies and prefers limited government

is that "right wing"?

Hillary went to India last week and elaborated on her "deplorables" comment

now, she feels it encompasses all states not on the Northeast or Western coasts and all white women, who are forced to vote as their husbands tell them to

and she wonders why both her attempts to run for President failed

"What part of "a well regulated militia" do you right-wingers and the NRA not comprehend?"

what part of protecting our children do you not understand?

we have elaborate security in museums, where no attacks have ever occurred, and let people freely wander in and out of public schools, where multiple attacks have taken place

in a Texas church recently and a Maryland high school this week, lives were save by armed citizens

in parts of America with the strictest gun control, violence is at its highest

we force kids to go to school with psychopaths and then are surprised when this happens

the Obama administration, saying they wanted to stop the "school to jail" cycle, worked to prevent psychopaths from being expelled from schools

Obama the Worst actually gave an award to Broward County for their efforts in keeping criminal children in school

"Buying guns at gun shows without background checks is not well regulated, it's a free for all."

"well-regulated" refers to the militia itself, not the purchase of guns

"What a beautiful day for a march against gun violence, assault weapons, and supporters of such atrocities in the NRA."

yes, Oprah and George Clooney who paid for and organized the march, making it look like the kids did, are coming with their armed bodyguards

they seem to want to be protected, even though they've never been attacked

too bad they don't want kids protected the same way

I've proven that repeatedly with your own words, no need to repeat them again here. Your absurd denials in the face of the obvious facts mean nothing.

"3. that if a transgender has to use the rest room assigned to their gender that people "like me" will murder them"

All the men that have assaulted and murdered transwomen are anti-LGBT bigots like you - case closed.

"7. that I want "transwomen" to be "viciously assaulted and murdered"".

If you didn't feel that way you wouldn't be lying and saying transwomen are in no danger using the men's room and you wouldn't be trying to force them in the men's room - you obviously want transwomen to be viciously assaulted and murdered.". You've also previously spoken approvingly of imprisoning and executing gays, its certainly no stretch given that that you want to see transwomen assaulted and murdered.

Wyatt/bad anonymous said "those are
many of them meet the legal definition of defamation".

I spoke the truth, there is no defamation.

Here's what meets the legal definition of defamation:

In this thread at May 14, 2017 5:26 PM Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "[Transwoman's name redacted] can prey on young girls in the ladies' room as much as possible"

Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "2. that I have regularly called for the assault of transgender children".

A "swirly" is forcing a person's head in a toilet that may or may not be filled with urine and feces and flushing the toilet while their head is in there. And Wyatt/Regina has regularly called for this to be done to LGBT schoolchildren.

In this thread at January 14, 2016 12:12 PM Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "girls" with guy parts don't belong in the girls' room they belong in the boys' room, where they will get a special swirly welcome"

"if they want to dress like a girl when they're a guy and they wander into the boys' room that way, they'll likely get a swirly welcome no real harm done, just a little social discipline to maintain decorum the answer: don't come to school dressed like a girl if you're a guy problem solved"

"Priya thinks a swirly is a "vicious assault"? it's not a big a deal just ask Ward he survived"

"a new study out shows that Swirly Reparative Therapy actually works same gender sexual attraction is reduced up to 59% among gays treated to a swirly every 4 hours the only down side is having to wake up in the middle of the night for treatment a small price to pay for a chance at a normal life for these people another triumph in the treatment of a mental disease once thought incurable"

"and don't pull that old line that you can't change because you were "born that way" there are many methods to alter behavior worse comes to worse, have Ward give you a swirly again"

That's not all the times Wyatt/Regina called for the assault of transgender schoolchildren either.

You can see Wyatt/Regina's words have proven again and again they don't have the slightest reservations about lying over and over.

Clearly when he accuses me of lying you know from his record that isn't true, he's the the one constantly lying.

This exchange is fascinating. Conservatives are always trying to say that liberals are taking away their right to free speech, and this is a great example of that thinking. Two women have to pee, and Anon thinks one of the women should have "the right" to tell the other woman she can't. And to make it even worse, liberals like Priya Lynn want to take that right away from her.

To Anon this just makes sense. "People Like Me" (aka "normal people") have rights, "Different People" try to impose their will on "Us" and take our rights away. Anon can't see it any other way.

Telling some women they can't use the bathroom is not "having a right," that is technically called "being an asshole." And decent people do not have to accept it.

"This exchange is fascinating"

isn't it, though?

"Conservatives are always trying to say that liberals are taking away their right to free speech,"

that's true

"liberals" actually don't believe in liberty

"and this is a great example of that thinking."

it is?

"Two women have to pee,"

**ALERT**a liberal is trying to alter a word definition**THIS HAS BEEN AN ALERT**

no, a woman has to pee and a male who thinks he's a woman has to pee

"and Anon thinks one of the women should have "the right" to tell the other woman she can't. And to make it even worse, liberals like Priya Lynn want to take that right away from her."

Priya's the one who used the term "right" first, addressing speech

I simply said women are uncomfortable having guys share the rest room with them

"To Anon this just makes sense. "People Like Me" (aka "normal people") have rights, "Different People" try to impose their will on "Us" and take our rights away. Anon can't see it any other way."

yeah, I don't have the same capacity to deny reality you do

how about that?

Priya, in another lie, has said that the idea of gender segregated rest rooms is akin to Nazism

so, I guess we have all been living in a Nazi world since the dawn of time

"Telling some women they can't use the bathroom is not "having a right," that is technically called "being an asshole.""

they have the right to do that

the transter has a right to ignore them but ultimate authority is the owner

let me guess: you don't believe in property rights either

"And decent people do not have to accept it."

all depends what you mean by accept

btw, the other right Priya denies women is the right to equal protection under the law

if you're a female in the womb and you mother decides you will be inconvenient, Priya "Casey Anthony" Lynn thinks your mother has the right to kill you

that's just evil

This exchange is fascinating

No, a woman has to pee and somebody who doesn't know her tells her she is not actually a woman.

And you are right, people have the right to be assholes -- just like other people have the right to ignore them.

Let me point out that not long ago people like you "did not feel comfortable" using the same bathroom as black people. The exact same argument was made, that forcing white people to use the same bathroom as blacks was a violation of their rights. Would you like to go back and re-litigate that one, or have you gotten over it? (Same as you'll get over this one, or your kids will.)

I hate to break it to you but the fictitious person you are referring to is not a woman, it really doesn't matter who says that, they're telling the truth

"And you are right, people have the right to be assholes -- just like other people have the right to ignore them."

well, we're in agreement on that

"Let me point out that not long ago people like you "did not feel comfortable" using the same bathroom as black people. The exact same argument was made, that forcing white people to use the same bathroom as blacks was a violation of their rights."

I don't recall ever being uncomfortable using the same bathroom as black people so you're wrong about that

what the women have a problem with is that they don't want anyone with male anatomy to share a rest room with them and they can't be expected to read people's mind to know what gender they think they are

honestly, to imply that someone has a mental illness is akin to someone black is racist

"Would you like to go back and re-litigate that one, or have you gotten over it?"

dude, I've always been color-blind

so I have nothing to get over

No, anon, you do not get to tell someone who they are. They know. And by the way, the people who suffer the most from your kind of assholiness are masculine looking women.

There is not going to be a pants-down test at the bathroom door. People know who they are and where to go, and it's nobody else's business.

It just doesn't matter. You go in and shut the door and pee, and it does not matter what kind of anatomy the person in the next stall has. From your comments about mental illness and your assertion that you know a person's sex better than she herself does, it is clear that you are simply prejudiced. A liberal society like ours is based on respect and tolerance for differences, also known as freedom. Intolerance will exist but it does not become public policy.

It's nice that you are comfortable sharing a bathroom with black people. See how that works? Your parents' generation would only share the bathroom with other white people, just like you today think everyone who uses the restroom needs to pass an anatomy test. And in another generation people will not be able to understand how you felt this way.

"No, anon, you do not get to tell someone who they are"

it's not a matter of me telling them

they are what they are

just like you aren't a kangaroo, even if you think you are

"And by the way, the people who suffer the most from your kind of assholiness are masculine looking women."

oh, do explain that

"There is not going to be a pants-down test at the bathroom door. People know who they are and where to go, and it's nobody else's business."

no one is suggesting one

you are the one favoring legislation

I say let owners of rest rooms make their own rules

that's how it's always been

it's never been a problem

stay calm and carry on and ignore the gay agenda

how's that?

"It just doesn't matter. You go in and shut the door and pee, and it does not matter what kind of anatomy the person in the next stall has."

well, since you think it doesn't matter, let's just have the boy anatomy people use the boy anatomy rest room and the girl anatomy people use the girl anatomy rest room

we'll just call it anatomy room instead of rest room

win-win

"From your comments about mental illness and your assertion that you know a person's sex better than she herself does, it is clear that you are simply prejudiced."

sure, anyone who thinks gender exists is prejudiced

"A liberal society like ours is based on respect and tolerance for differences,"

no, it isn't

"also known as freedom."

there you go

"Intolerance will exist but it does not become public policy."

you're the ones who wanted to make laws

most people were fine with how things were

"It's nice that you are comfortable sharing a bathroom with black people. See how that works? Your parents' generation would only share the bathroom with other white people,"

your insistence that race is the equivalent of perversion is pathetic

"just like you today think everyone who uses the restroom needs to pass an anatomy test."

I think nothing like that

I say the owners of rest rooms can make any rules regarding their use they want

"And in another generation people will not be able to understand how you felt this way."

there have been many periods and places very embracing of homosexuality

it's usually a sign the civilization is collapsing

think the Weimar republic in Germany

I am not suggesting any laws, anon. There are currently no laws about who can use a bathroom, and that is fine. There may be some laws about nondiscrimination and as long as people like you use terms like "perversion" to describe someone's gender identity there is going to be a need for such laws. That is because we are a nation founded on freedom and equality for all people.

There is no law about who can use what bathroom, except for those places that have passed "bathroom bills" out of fear. There is not a problem with bathrooms. Trans women use the ladies room, trans men use the men's room, and there has never been any problem with it.

Race is not equivalent to gender identity but prejudiced people's sense of personal disgust and superiority works the same in both cases.

And I am not going to discuss your conspiracy theories about homosexualtiy, which is another topic altogether. Some people are gay, always have been, sorry if that bothers you but you don't get to decide who somebody else will love.

of course, you're not suggesting any laws

they were enacted a couple of years back

Jim just decided to resurrect the issue for some reason

probably to divert attention from the continuing revelations about the conspiracy where Obama the Worst and Crooked Hillary used the law enforcement branch of government against his successor

"and as long as people like you use terms like "perversion" to describe someone's gender identity there is going to be a need for such laws."

there you go again

thinking the government is properly used to advance the gay agenda

"That is because we are a nation founded on freedom and equality for all people."

the founders never conceived anything like discrimination laws

the nation is founded on freedom and equality under the government not to guarantee equal social outcomes regardless of one's choices

"There is no law about who can use what bathroom, except for those places that have passed "bathroom bills" out of fear. There is not a problem with bathrooms. Trans women use the ladies room, trans men use the men's room, and there has never been any problem with it."

there is a law that owners of rest rooms must allow transters to use any rest room they want to

you may remember one of our former TTFers tried to intimidate petition signers trying to overturn the law

"Race is not equivalent to gender identity but prejudiced people's sense of personal disgust and superiority works the same in both cases."

actually, heterosexuality is superior to homosexuality

again, a fact

heterosexuality is the means by which immortal souls are created

"And I am not going to discuss your conspiracy theories about homosexualtiy, which is another topic altogether."

homosexualtiy?

I didn't suggest a conspiracy theory

I discussed historical patterns

you said future generations will wonder how we could segregate rest rooms by gender

I merely pointed that civilizations that embrace homosexuality usually collapse and are replaced by civilizations that don't

so, you're probably wrong about future generations

no conspiracy, just a society that's lost it's moral bearings

"Some people are gay, always have been,"

never said they aren't people who develop a sexual preference for their own gender

probably more accurate to say there are people who engage in homosexual actvity

only in our generation has a phenomenon of exclusive homosexuality developed

the problems develop when it is socially accepted and embraced

it belongs in the shadows

"sorry if that bothers you but you don't get to decide who somebody else will love."

doesn't bother me

if homosexuals want to call what they do to each other "love," they can go right ahead

it's a free country

I do object when they try to get the government to teach children that homosexuality is normal

Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "actually, heterosexuality is superior to gayness".

That's highly debatable in a world where we have a serious overpopulation problem and 1 billion people don't have adequate access to water due to that overpopulation and the problem is ever growing. Right now the world could use a lot more gay people to bring birthrates back down to replacement levels. The replacement level birthrate is 2.1 children per heterosexual couple. Therefore it is immoral for a couple to have more than two or three children.

But for the sake of argument, let's say that you're correct and straights are superior to gays. That in no way suggests that gays are a group that should be minimized, eliminated, or oppressed. Children who grow up in wealthy families are less likely to be criminals, to be alcholics, suffer from depression or mental illness, and are generally more successful in life. But few people would suggest this means its moral or a good idea to prevent all but the wealthiest couples from having children. A person with two arms and two legs is physically superior to an amputee. But only a monster would claim that this means its justifiable to reject and oppress them, or say that they "belong in the shadows" as Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous say about gays. People vary in abilities, strength, intellect, etc. with some being superior to others but no moral person would say superior people deserve more rights or better treatment than inferior people. Regardless of the superiority of some over others moral, healthy, and successful societies treat all equally.

Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "heterosexuality is the means by which immortal souls are created".

LOL, remember when Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous claimed they never discussed their religious beliefs on this blog?

Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous "I merely pointed that civilizations that embrace homosexuality usually collapse and are replaced by civilizations that don't".

A myth told by bigots to try to justify their bigotry. The Roman empire initially didn't persecute gays. After it converted to Christianity and started persecuting gays it died out. Its more accurate to say civilizations that persecute gays usually collapse and are replaced by civiliations that don't.

Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous said "the problems develop when gayness is socially accepted and embraced it belongs in the shadows".

Nonsense. Society does best when all citizens are able to share in the benefits and minimize the problems equally. Any society that persecutes innocent minorities is a less healthy and successful society than it should be..

Same sex couples in monogamous relationships harm no one and these relationships make them happier and more productive which benefits both them and all of the broader society.

Any society that shows disregard for, or seeks to oppress any innocent citizens is a society that does not place the highest priority on fairness and justice and is an inferior society ill equipped to compete in today's modern world.

You can see from Wyatt/Regina/bad anonymous's posts they have a deep seething hatred for innocent and harmless LGBT people.

As I've documented here many times, they've frequently posted speaking approvingly of oppressing, assaulting, imprisoning, and murdering LGBT people.

There is precious little doubt in my mind they want to see LGBT people assaulted or even murdered - their own words give them away. They may not want to do it themselves but they clearly take pleasure in the thought of others doing that - they are sadists through and through.

Their disingenuous denials are worthless. Take a lie detector test you two and prove you don't seek to harm LGBT people. You won't because you can't pass.

Meaning you're at best a registered fake Democrat who only votes in MoCo primaries, which are after all the only vote that counts as Democrats win every general election race here.

You fully support the pussy grabber and his thugs like Gorsuch and the rest.

These kids who organized, obtained funding for, and marched in our nation's capital today are tomorrow's leaders.

It's the economy, stupid.

According to a new CNN poll, President Trump has recently experienced a major uptick in his approval rating, climbing to a level not seen since the 100-day mark in his presidency.

The poll was conducted for the network by research firm SSRS. It took place from March 22 to March 25 and involved 1,014 phone participants.

48 percent expressed approval of the way Trump has handled the economy versus 45 percent disapproval for the job Trump is doing on that issue.

November 2018 is closer than you think.

Christian Nationalism and Donald Trump

Sociologists Andrew L. Whitehead, Joseph O. Baker and Samuel L. Perry have a new study that looks at the reasons why the Christian right continues to support Donald Trump despite him being a sexual predator and serial adulterer, things they have always railed against. The answer: Christian nationalism.

"Why are white Christians sticking so closely to President Trump, despite these claims of sexual indiscretions? And why are religious individuals and groups that previously decried sexual impropriety among political leaders suddenly willing to give Trump a “mulligan” on his infidelity?

Our new study points to a different answer than others have offered. Voters’ religious tenets aren’t what is behind Trump support; rather, it’s Christian nationalism — their view of the United States as a fundamentally Christian nation.

What they did was ask people six questions that indicated their belief in Christian nationalism, then controlled for other factors and found that “Americans who agreed with the various measures of Christian nationalism were much more likely to vote for Trump, even after controlling for other influences, such as political ideology, political party and other cultural factors proposed as possible explanations.”"

Let me propose a closely related explanation: Christian nationalism really has very little to do with Christianity. The Christian right uses Christianity as a cudgel to beat down members of other tribes. Their acceptance of Christianity is much more powerful as a tribal marker than as an actual set of beliefs. That becomes obvious when you see how quickly they jettison those beliefs to support someone like Trump, and how they ignore the clear commands in the Bible to feed the poor and treat immigrants like our own family. There is no coherent ideology here; it’s tribalism all the way down.
