An Unpresidented First Day in Office

Yesterday's Women's March was amazing, millions of people all around the world, uniting in a common desire for peace and freedom and decency. Meanwhile our new president turns out to be a petty, greedy little pig whether he's campaigning or actually working in office. Pivot? Uh, no, he is not going to change. Today the front page of the Washington Post had an article headlined "Trump uses CIA visit to rip media." It has a different headline online. Here's how the story kicks off:
President Trump used his first full day in office to wage war on the media, accusing news organizations of lying about the size of his inauguration crowd as Saturday’s huge protests served notice that a vocal and resolute opposition would be a hallmark of his presidency.

With Americans taking to the streets in red and blue states alike to emphatically decry a president they consider reprehensible and, even, illegitimate, Trump visited the Central Intelligence Agency for a stream-of-consciousness airing of grievances — including against journalists, whom he called “the most dishonest human beings on Earth.” Trump wages war against the media as demonstrators protest his presidency
Reprehensible and, even, illegitimate.

You won't hear somebody like me saying how great the CIA is. I have a bit of a problem with our democratic government secretly disrupting economic and political processes in foreign countries, arming rebels and assassinating people. I know it happens and that's about it. Sometimes something comes out and it is usually ugly. Has the CIA ever gone into a country and brought food to hungry people? The idea kind of makes you laugh.

Still, this is Washingon DC and the people all around us work for the government, including the CIA. The agency works very closely with the president, forming strategic plans, conveying intelligence, they meet and it is not something the world knows about. The CIA and the president have to have a very close relationship built on trust.

So if Trump goes to visit them, you'd think he'd talk about that. He could mention the success of one of their missions, lament the sacrifices of agents, discuss trouble-spots around the world that he is counting on the CIA's help with, there are lots of ways he could have started his presidency forming an important alliance.

Instead, he complained about journalists, because they had published estimates of the size of his inauguration crowd that he did not like. His inauguration in fact was dismal. There were bleachers with nobody in them, streets lined with nobody. No self-respecting performer would perform for it. Celebrations were canceled. The streets were torn up by violent protestors, a couple hundred arrested.

And ironically, even as he spoke the streets of Washington and every other city in the US were jam-packed with people protesting his deplorable presidency. In DC alone the Woman's March drew many times more people than the inauguration. Half a million in LA, ten thousand in Portland, Maine. Ninety to a hundred thousand in St. Paul. Boise had five thousand people in the street. People streaming through the streets in Paris. Every city had it, people protesting the reprehensible orange man who has been inaugurated as president and the vile, vulgar things he stands for.

And rather than begin the work of running the country, rather than build a relationship with the CIA, the president complained to them that the press had miscounted his crowds. And then he sent his press secretary out for a surreal press conference. As CNN put it:
"This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period," Spicer said, contradicting all available data.
So there it is. They will tell you what to believe. There may be people who accept this. There must be a lot of them. A great proportion of America is going to be living in a kind of reality that they hear about from authorities, denying the evidence of their own experience. It is going to be difficult to deal with them.

Yep jim -

Here is the reality of my own experience.

I was in DC on Friday for the swearing in ceremony. We wanted to follow that with the parade. but, the police wouldn't let folks cross at 4th to get to Pennsylvania (because of violent protesters), then rerouted us to 7th (closed because of protestors) and finally rerouted us to 12th. We gave up and went home. There were tons of people out of town also getting rerouted which is upsetting because they couldn't get to the parade either !. And you point to the Womens march as having no violence ! Of course it didn't. Republicans don't tend to riot or break things, that almost exclusively the role of Democrats these days. GEEZ !

I didn't show up and break windows during the womens' march. I didn't show up and try to block people (including families with children) from an event that my side wanted to enjoy by screaming bloody murder and smashing things. That would be the left and the leftists. I didn't even go confront the protesters at the inauguration (though I was really, really tempted). My human rights to assemble and enjoy the inaugurations were trespassed on.

that is the REALITY of my experience.

Your side is a bunch of thieves, vandals and THUGS. As demonstrated by the fact that the women's march was completely peaceful. We are not going to infringe on your rights. We just think you are nuts.

And guess what ! there are a lot of us !
Families, working folks, people that pay their taxes and want the govt to leave us alone.

Theresa, I know you didn't actually see any violence or destruction, but do you know if the demonstrators you were told about were actual protestors or someone paid by James O'Keefe's group to disrupt the inauguration?

See http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/transcript-press-secretary-sean-spicer-media-233979

The petty five-year-old-child-president's press secretary spent eight of twelve paragraphs of his first official press release bitching about two individual tweets by reporters.

He was not complaining about articles these reports wrote and published, but about 140 character tweets and some news photographs of the National Mall.

In a total of two of the twelve paragraphs of this debut performance (it's all about stagecraft), Donnie Boy's press secretary actually talked about what the President did his first day in office and we learned he talk, talk talked with PM Trudeau and PM Nieto.

He also mentioned the upcoming talk with PM May.

This was what was considered important for the nation to learn in this first official press release of the new President Donnie Boy's Press Secretary: Two tweets were worth more than twice the attention devoted to meetings with heads of state including our two closet neighbors.

How low this thin skinned administration will go after journalists it keeps adding to its "enemies list" remains to be seen.

Nice editing:

"I was also at the inauguration Friday. It was a lot of fun. Trump supporters everywhere. We did go to the swearing in and heard the inaugural. We tried to go to the parade, but couldn't get over to Pennsylvania... tried to cross at 4th, police rerouted us to 7th and then again to 12th. Lots of families with middle schoolers. The reason we couldn't get over to Pennsylvania (we found at later) was because of the protestors, who were violent and breaking things. The cops were trying to route the Trump supporters away from the protestors to keep people from getting hurt. " at 9:43 AM today.

But a little later, it became:

"I was in DC on Friday for the swearing in ceremony. We wanted to follow that with the parade. but, the police wouldn't let folks cross at 4th to get to Pennsylvania (because of violent protesters), then rerouted us to 7th (closed because of protestors) and finally rerouted us to 12th." at 12:42 PM

Protesters you told us at 9:43AM today you found out about later, which means you did not see them yourself at the time.

What do you call what you just did here today?

I call it lying.

I did see them.

The police had them behind a fence and were not letting the Trump supporters cross over at 7th (we did walk all the way down because when we couldn't cross at 4th we went to 7th).

At the end of 7th there were a lot of Trump supporters holding up signs, and the road was blocked (we wanted to get across the mall to Pennsylvania). on the other side of the cordoned off area, there were a bunch of folks screaming and yelling in pink hats. The police were turning the trump supporters around and not letting the two groups meet. Which meant you couldn't get to the parade. We started to walk down to 12th but then we heard another guy talking to the cops who were telling him to go to the 12th and he said .... no, I just came from 12th and that is blocked off as well.

So J20 was successful, I guess. A lot of of folks like me gave up and went home.

and now the media is running around talking about how there wasn't a large turnout.

The whole thing is ridiculous.

We still had fun.

But it was pretty frustrating.

We did see the folks screaming and yelling in pink hats.
We didn't realize until later that ALL the routes over the mall were closed off because of the protesters.

we thought it might just be that one area. Or that it might just be full.
But apparently it was 4th and 12th and 7th...

The only place we walked all the way up to talk to folks about trying to get across was at 7th.

There we saw the blockade.
And folks walking back saying ..."don't bother it is pretty bad up there".

we went up anyway.

You are right, I just heard that the reason the rest was closed was because of protesters....

But they did arrest over 200 people for violence and damage.

You are seriously trying to claim those were Trump supporters ?

Really ?

Question, Theresa, even though you did not answer my last one. Did you walk to the inauguration, or drive or ride bikes? Because Metro ridership was way down. There were lots of empty hotels rooms, maybe you spent the night downtown to beat the crowds?

Quit trying to shove words into my mouth.

I never said such a thing and you know it and as anyone can clearly see on this thread.

You are the one changing your story over time and threads today, not me.

Knowing about O'Keefe's plans to disrupt the Inauguration with his fake "liberals" (I wonder how many of his fake "liberals" showed up wearing O'Keef's pimp outfit) I stayed home baking cookies for the grandkids.

I'm just wondering if there's any common ground here or not.

How'd you like the Press Secretary's statement yesterday? Are you OK with tweet complaints instead of reports about how Amerika is being made great again?

Jim.
We took the metro from Forest Glen and got off at Federal Center. We got back on at L'Efant Plaza after wandering around unsuccessfully trying to get over to Pennsylvania.

We probably should have tried to take the Metro under the mall back over to Penn. The Metro lines also looked packed downtown (though Forest Glen was fine, but we went late so who knows...)

We had Orange room standing alone for the inauguration... it was packed but I clearly did not go to the obama inauguration so I can't compare.

We should have gone straight from the Capitol to the the parade route, but we followed the crowd that was exiting the orange area and that is probably what we did wrong.

Metro ridership

Obama 2009 1,100,000
Obama 2013 782,000
Typical day 712,843
Trump 2017 570,557

Divide by two, for round trips, subtract maybe 10-20 percent going to work and doing other things (this includes rides that did not enter the city), and you have small hands, small balls (or canceled in some cases), and small inaugural crowds for Don Trump's inauguration.

None.

I did attend a Trump rally in NC and it was packed. Just packed.

People are sick and tired of having to work harder and longer to cover people who seem to believe they are entitled to other folks money.

I have never understood that.

Why I am greedy for wanting to keep the money I worked my whole life for, but you are not greedy for demanding that I give 1/2 my income and more up to people who don't bother to work at all ?

1 trillion is the numbers for welfare (when you add it all up) these days.

But Trump is going to change that.

Thank Goodness.

People had finally had enough.

Not so great when compared to Obama's first inauguration though.

Nelson ratings
Obama 2009 38 million
Trump 2017 30.6 million
Obama 2013 20.6 million

Theresa, it is too bad you are so bitter about contributing to the public good. If you could get to work without using roads, if you grew everything you ate and educated yourself, if you lived without electricity or produced your own, if you dug your own well and made all the medicines you ever need by hand, if you and only you defended your own home from criminals, terrorists, and enemy armies as well as fire and other natural disasters, then you could complain about helping other people. As it is, we are all in this together. We are a "society," not a band of barbarians, and we all contribute to the common good.

Of course it well known that the red states take the most in "welfare," as you call it. Conservatives need help from the government sometimes, too, it isn't mostly highly educated people with tattoos and nose-rings. Most welfare goes to plain old dumb rednecks. And some of us don't mind giving them a hand.

1 trillion dollars of our 3 trillionish budget goes to handouts.

No, I don't mind giving people a hand for a short period of time while they get back on their feet. But many, many people make a lifestyle out of it. Way too many.

there are about 10% of the population that will always need help. About 1/2 the population is not working now. fully 1/2. Lower than any point in history. Obama did that. And I know some of them. And believe me, they are LAZY.

Taking 1/2 of anyone's income in taxes is outrageous. I don't care HOW much they make. Good for them.

I have a law school daughter that busted her butt to get into the law school and then to get a job.

I remember seeing her absolutely exhausted and beside herself that first year of law school when they weed folks out.

She survived, graduated, is already making a ton of money.

My other two children will probably never earn as much, and they never worked as hard.

I would never suggest that she should be taxed so much that it brings her tax home pay down to the same rate as my other two kids, who quite frankly didn't work as hard.

but you all are perfectly okay with that.

And you seem to try and say it is all roads and infrastructure.

Right.
sure it is.

Theresa, your stereotype of Democrats may make you feel better about yourself but the fact is most welfare is paid out in Republican states.

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities says:

"About 10 percent of the federal budget in 2015, or $362 billion, supported programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship. Spending on safety net programs declined in both nominal and real terms between 2014 and 2015 as the economy continued to improve.

These programs include: the refundable portions of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which assist low- and moderate-income working families; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income people, including SNAP (food stamps), school meals, low-income housing assistance, child care assistance, and help meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children.

Such programs keep millions of people out of poverty each year. A CBPP analysis using Census’ Supplemental Poverty Measure shows that government safety net programs kept some 38 million people out of poverty in calendar year 2014. Without any government income assistance, either from safety net programs or other income supports like Social Security, the poverty rate would have been 27.3 percent in 2014, nearly double the actual 15.3 percent. And these programs reduced the depth of poverty for millions more, even when not bringing them above the poverty line."

And yeah, there's some lazy rednecks out there, I agree with you on that. They are too dumb to get the kinds of jobs that exist nowadays, but that doesn't mean we should just let them starve. Ten percent of your tax money isn't too much to keep somebody from poverty, is it?

the LAZY person I was referring to is my brother.

White collar, educated.

Got laid off in 2009'sh and never got a job.

I defended him and defended him during his divorce.

Stupid me.

He now drives for UBER and hangs out at my moms (she's 91, and he asks her to bring him coffee). Literally, really. Leaves her a pile of dishes and walks out. Sleeps on her couch. asks HER to make HIM coffee. training his kids to do the same. It's disgusting.

watches TV 24x7.

yeah, people like that.

Not people put out of work by Barack obama's energy policies in WV.

It is not 10% of my tax money that goes to support him it is 30% of my tax money, if I use the same numbers as the federal budget. So, given that I paid 75K in taxes last year, 25K went to allow my lazy ass brother to NOT WORK, watch TV, set a TERRIBLE example for his kids. who when they wake up to their single mom who has been supporting them and busting her butt to take care of them, and work while supporting them, are going to hate him. I would. I already do. the behavior is NOT OKAY.

She is a democrat by the way and he is a republican. So.
But she is going to love Trumps child care plan, she is going to love it when it gets implemented. It will save her probably 5-10K in taxes.

It is fully one third of my income that goes to welfare (SS disability, medicaid, chips, housing, unemployment, etc). I would be perfectly okay with 10% of my TAX income going to welfare.
It's not. It's a third.

Having the insurance policy that I loved cancelled to pay for my lazy ass brother to get Obamacare subsidies ? Not okay with that. Just not okay with that. do you think this is okay ? Really ?

He stole from my mother for years. I stopped that.

Now he is on EBT stuff. Hey, at least my tax dollars are going to someone I know.

I offer to pay him 20.00 an hour (like I pay my kids) to help with all sorts of stuff over here - including tax itemization non stressful work - he is not interested. and it is not just me (which I could understand)..... the neighbor at the beach offered him a job, he wouldn't even follow up with a resume.

He is lazy. Hey, why work ? You can scam your mom and scam the system and get tax refunds back for stuff you didn't do... why work ?

My brother won't get off his butt and get a job and seems to think the world OWES him something.

So.

No, I am NOT okay with paying for folks like this.

NOT AT ALL.

NOT AT ALL.

Are you okay with your tax dollars going to support my brother, who refuses to work, and hasn't worked in the past 8 years Jim ? Really ? You are perfectly okay with this ?

Did you ever read "The Giver" ? wonderful book about what happens when you remove pain and bad situations. Life stops to have meaning.

Theresa, I think you have told us about him before -- he sounds like just the example I was referring to. Do you think that only people who work hard like you should be have good health care? Do you think everyone who receives welfare as you call it, including social security and Medicare, is lazy, like your brother? Is there any possibility that you yourself might someday be debilitated or unemployed, and discover that if you take the one job you can get, say working at Wal-Mart, you will need government assistance in order to house and feed yourself and your family? Any possibility at all? Or can you really not imagine that, do you actually have absolutely no empathy for your fellow man?

Okay. Jim. First of all you should know that NO-ONE was a fiercer defender of my brother than I. No one. In retrospect, i was completely wrong. I believed him that he had been working hard to get a new job, I BELIEVED him that he was a good dad, I believed him that he was not Lazy. I fiercely attacked his wife. Than I discovered that EVERY SINGLE THING she had alleged in her filing was correct. I was an idiot. A complete idiot.
And my brother was a recipient of the two year unemployment under Obama and it destroyed him. I participated in that destruction (I will NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF). I looked at the offers (there were like 2) during that period, and said to him, you will make more money by staying home. Not realizing the character destruction that led too... Not realizing he would never be employed again because he didn't' get back in the workforce. I was wrong.
That said, he has NEVER applied himself since. He is angry at his wife for leaving him (I would have left him as well, he is ONE additional child to take care of, he DOES NOT HELP... and by his sitting 24X7 in front of the TV, he sets a bad example for the children she is trying to raise TO NOT DO THAT). He is the POSTER child for why you should not continue to pay people not to work.....
-------------------------------------------
“Is there any possibility …..”

Sure I can imagine that I might need help one day.
I know people that are legitimately on disability. LIke my old boss who had a stroke at 56 or so . took him completely out and he had worked his whole career.... clearly he is entitled to his disability payments, he can't hardly talk !....
and I know people that really SHOULDn"T be on disability ..... like a lady that helped me in my savekensington campaign (I met a whole lot of liberals who also didn't want high rises in Kensingon)..... she wasn't in great shape, but she could type up names in the thousands to help with our mailing list but was on SS disability for not working ? she had been on it for 10 years at this point.)..
The system for the safety net has been abused. Some people have made it a lifestyle. but you keep wanting to denigrate folks like me that want it restored to a safety net as horrible people.
We just want to see the system reduced to what it was originally designed to be. A safety net, not a lifestyle.
Capisce?
I keep wanting to invite you and your wife out to dinner.... I actually think WE could keep it cordial, intellectual, and entertaining.

Wow, Theresa. A couple of things. What does it mean to be "a recipient of the two year unemployment under Obama?" I even googled that, and don't see where Obama has been awarding two-year unemployments. Is that like a sabbatical or something?

Second, I take issue with your statement that "you keep wanting to denigrate folks like me that want it restored to a safety net." I have never denigrated you or people like you. Well, I guess I have made a few comments about shower-nuts but that was well deserved, I think you'd agree. That was 2007, now it's ten years later and there still haven't been any men pretending to be women lurking in the shower-rooms. Not even one. I wasn't denigrating you guys, though, I was just making fun of you.

If you actually wanted a safety net then fine, maybe we only disagree on what the qualifying conditions are, and we might not even disagree on that. I am not judging people and calling them lazy, I do not make a trailer-park soap opera out of people who are having hard times like you do. I might not approve of somebody's life choices but I don't think Bubba should be starved and made homeless just because he's dumb as a rock.

What do you think about the idea that robots are replacing people for a lot of jobs? You know that's why there aren't factories like there used to be, they don't need people to assemble things any more. So then, Theresa, how are you going to be with the new economy, where everyone has a guaranteed income and nobody has to work? Some countries are trying it already. Your brother will have to turn off the TV every couple of weeks to waddle his fat butt to the bank and deposit his paycheck, maybe the exercise will be good for him. Maybe he'll meet someone on the way and fall in love and start over again with new pep in his step.

In the new economy your value as a human being will not derive from getting out of bed every morning and going to the office to do what some idiot tells you to do. That will be different, won't it. How are you going to be with that?

For you it's all about classifying and judging people. Good people have hard times, you know, and sometimes a despicable jerk succeeds. And sometimes people make mistakes or do bad things or get depressed and they fail. Your values are not the only good values that are possible -- in fact, because you are unable to empathize with people I would say your values are not good values at all. Work in itself is not a virtue. Love is a virtue, sadly lacking.

Meanwhile, returning to the discussion of our most unpresidential presidential team ever....

"I did see them.

The police had them behind a fence”

So you did NOT see any “violent protesters,” but instead you saw some people “the police had...behind a fence" and made assumptions about what those people had done to be there. You saw no one committing any act of violence with your own eyes.

That’s lying Theresa, no matter how you try to pirouette around it.

No wonder you think Trump is so great.

Two lying peas in a pussy grabbing pod.

”About 1/2 the population is not working now. fully 1/2. Lower than any point in history. Obama did that. And I know some of them. And believe me, they are LAZY.”

OMG Theresa, you think is fine to just completely forget to mention what George Bush did to the employment of people in this nation during the last of his eight years in office. You might recall Dumbya managed to turn Bill Clinton’s surplus into the Great Recession.

You must be so proud of the last winning President you voted for who nearly bankrupted us, driving the economy down to the depths of the Bush Recession, which President Obama managed to pull us out of in spite of the fact the Grab Our Pussy party did EVERYTHING it could think of to obstruct him in fixing that which Dumbya and his cronies had fucked up for us all.

Get real instead of bringing us more of your deplorable your “alt-facts.”

See Kellyanne Conway says Donald Trump’s team has ‘alternative facts.’ Which pretty much says it all.

"NO-ONE was a fiercer defender of my brother than I. A complete idiot."

I suggest you substitute “Trump” for “my brother.” But I doubt it will help you any because when you willfully reside inside the bubble you are unable to learn from your past mistakes, even the ones that make you feel like "A complete idiot."

"He is the POSTER child for why you should not continue to pay people not to work….."

You do remember welfare reform don’t you? We do not "continue to pay people not to work" anymore.

Rather than your sack of lies, let’s examine the facts:

"Clinton ended the traditional welfare system, called Aid to Families With Dependent Children, under which very poor Americans were effectively entitled to receive financial support from the federal government. In the new system, known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, applicants must meet a range of strict requirements that vary by state to get help — working, volunteering, looking for a job or participating in skills training."

What state does your brother live in? Does his state have its own welfare program that will “continue to pay people not to work” without expecting him and all the other recipients to “meet a range of strict requirements….working, volunteering, looking for a job, or participating in skills training” or are you just lying some more?

Without evidence, Trump tells lawmakers 3 million to 5 million illegal ballots cost him the popular vote

"Days after being sworn in, President Trump insisted to congressional leaders invited to a reception at the White House that he would have won the popular vote had it not been for millions of illegal votes, according to people familiar with the meeting.

Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that widespread voter fraud caused him to lose the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, even while he clinched the presidency with an electoral college victory.

Two people familiar with the meeting said Trump spent about 10 minutes at the start of the bipartisan gathering rehashing the campaign. He also told them that between 3 million and 5 million illegal votes caused him to lose the popular vote.

The discussion about Trump's election victory and his claim that he would have won the popular vote was confirmed by a third person familiar with the meeting...."

It kills the orange one that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by such a huge margin that he feels compelled to keep making up bullshit lies to cover up his nearly three million popular vote loss, showing over and over again what a petty loser he is.

WASHINGTON, DC - Donald Trump signed an order yesterday that freezes pay for hundreds of thousands of veterans, potentially shuts tens of thousands more out of a job, and seems to starve the Department of Veterans Affairs of workers it desperately needs.

"That didn't take long. In just his third day in office, Donald Trump screwed hundreds of thousands of veterans out of better pay, and thousands more out of potential jobs," said Peter Kauffmann, Senior Adviser to VoteVets. "Veterans who have families to feed, who may be saving up for a home, all of them have been let down by Donald Trump. This shouldn't be shocking. Donald Trump lobbied New York to kick disabled veterans, working as vendors, out from in front of Trump Tower. He has always been hostile to working veterans."

"What we still do not know is whether the Department of Veterans Affairs is also subject to his hiring and pay freeze. It would be the ultimate insult to our men and women who serve to deny them the additional doctors, nurses, therapists, and administrators that are sorely needed at the VA," Kauffmann added. "If his Executive Order leads to preventable deaths, that will be on Donald Trump's hands, and we will hold him personally accountable."

The Executive Order, signed by Trump, freezes pay and hiring for all Federal agencies with few exemptions. The Federal workforce is 31% veteran, meaning roughly 623,000 veterans depend on Federal jobs and pay.

Further, for those unemployed veterans seeking work, Federal jobs are a prime destination, thanks to a 2009 executive order signed by President Barack Obama, establishing the Veterans Employment Initiative. That order instructed agencies to identify and hire qualified veterans for job openings. Trump's hiring freeze means no jobs are now open for veterans, at affected agencies.

It is unclear as to whether the Department of Veterans Affairs will be granted an exemption to the hiring and pay freeze. According to VA officials in California, they have not yet received any instructions as to whether they can, or cannot hire the psychologists, nurses, and social workers for which they currently have job postings.

so the first statement is fake news, right?

"The Executive Order, signed by Trump, freezes pay and hiring for all Federal agencies with few exemptions. The Federal workforce is 31% veteran, meaning roughly 623,000 veterans depend on Federal jobs and pay."

well, a freeze is not the same as firing anyone

"It is unclear as to whether the Department of Veterans Affairs will be granted an exemption to the hiring and pay freeze."

so why say something when it's unclear

when say "unclear", which s a favorite media trick, it can be said about most anything

let's try it:

it's unclear how many TTFers urinated in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue today

back to the topic, a basic principle is you hire people who are needed, not just to give people jobs

Trump feels they are already enough Federal employees

it's unclear how he could be wrong

the Defense dept is exempt from the hiring freeze, and veterans would be given preference

We see reading comprehension continues to be a problem for you.

You seem to think ONLY the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Defense Department hire veterans to work for the federal government, which is far from true.

In fact 31% of ALL federal workers are veterans.

It is another fact that veterans are hired by all agencies within the federal government with preference over equally qualified non-veteran applicants.

With this federal hiring freeze, fewer veterans will get such preferential treatment to be hired for federal employment except where the hiring freeze is not in effect.

"Trump feels they [sic] are already enough Federal employees

it's unclear how he could be wrong"

Maybe it's unclear to you how Trump could be wrong but Trump also has a "long-standing belief" that 3-5 million Americans voted illegally in 2017, which is flat out wrong. Ask Spicer, who has to try to speak for the twittiot, just how wrong Trump can be.

"the Defense dept is exempt from the hiring freeze, and veterans would be given preference"

That's one federal agency where we can hire more soldiers and produce even more veterans who will seek most likely civilian employment once discharged.

What about Air Force veterans who might want to work for the FAA, where hiring is frozen?

What about veteran Navy Seals who might want to work for the Department of Parks in the Florida Keys after years of tough service, but where hiring is frozen?

What about the veteran Army medic who wants to conduct research at the National Institutes of Health or CDC where hiring is frozen?

The list of federal agencies besides Veterans Affairs and DOD where veterans' special skills would be advantageous and useful goes on and on.

It's obvious you are no veteran.

I recommend you stop showing your ignorance and go follow Trump's advice.

we're already doing a lot for veterans just by giving them preference for jobs that will be filled

there are many other programs for them, which will be revitalized now that anti-American Obama is gone

Who will suffer from a government hiring freeze? Veterans:
Fewer jobs and fewer services await our servicemen and women"

"...I’m a veteran and a former government employee. I’ve worked at several federal agencies, most recently at the Veterans Benefits Administration, the nonmedical side of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Before my time as a government employee, I bought into the idea that the problem with government work was people who didn’t want to work hard, but outside of military service, the hardest I have ever worked was at the VA. Mandatory overtime, production quotas, hours and hours of continuing education — and all for less money than I made as a secretary working in the private sector.

My memories are of halls filled with racks of folders and less than 200 co-workers to process hundreds of thousands of claims. There simply weren’t enough new workers coming in to replace those who left for other jobs, illness or retirement. I was one of the people who left early, too, after the stress began giving me optical migraines. I couldn’t stick around for years of the Sisyphean task of processing a never-ending stream of claims without enough staff, and, frankly, I had healthier options...

...Many agencies that directly work with vulnerable populations, including the Social Security Administration, are also woefully understaffed. Despite false claims that the government workforce has undergone a dramatic expansion, the federal workforce is incredibly small relative to the expanding U.S. population. If 2.7 million employees sounds like a lot, remember that the population was just shy of 319 million people in 2014. Our current federal government staffing levels are akin to going to the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving and finding two registers open. That’s why it takes so long for benefits claims to be processed, why getting a passport can take months, why Internal Revenue Service refunds are being delayed until mid-February, because budget cuts were already limiting staff replacement. Despite the ongoing narrative of “lazy/greedy government workers,” the reality is that any industry doesn’t function well if it doesn’t have enough people.

My time as a Veteran’s services representative was mercifully brief. It would be nice to pretend that I was such a force for good during that year that the VA was drastically changed for the better by my presence. Maybe I made a difference in some small, mundane interpersonal ways, but my time was marked by an immense workload and stress so obscene that I can’t lie to myself. Meanwhile, the mantra of smaller government won’t save taxpayers any money, it won’t make life any easier or improve access to services. All it will do is make life harder for federal employees and for the populations they serve, including veterans, whose very lives depend on functional government. It’s not smaller government that America needs right now. It’s an effective, compassionate one."

Trump pressured Park Service to find proof for his claims about inauguration crowd

"On the morning after Donald Trump’s inauguration, acting National Park Service director Michael T. Reynolds received an extraordinary summons: The new president wanted to talk to him.

In a Saturday phone call, Trump personally ordered Reynolds to produce additional photographs of the previous day’s crowds on the Mall, according to three individuals who have knowledge of the conversation. The president believed that the photos might prove that the media had lied in reporting that attendance had been no better than average.

Trump also expressed anger over a retweet sent from the agency’s account, in which side-by-side photographs showed far fewer people at his swearing-in than had shown up to see Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009.

According to one account, Reynolds had been contacted by the White House and given a phone number to call. When he dialed it, he was told to hold for the president.

For Trump, who sees himself and his achievements in superlative terms, the inauguration’s crowd size has been a source of grievance that he appears unable to put behind him. It is a measure of his fixation on the issue that he would devote part of his first morning in office to it — and that he would take out his frustrations on an acting Park Service director....

...The Park Service does not release crowd estimates. Experts, however, have estimated that the 2017 turnout was no more than a third the size of Obama’s eight years earlier.

Reynolds was taken aback by Trump’s request, but he did secure some additional aerial photographs and forwarded them to the White House through normal channels in the Interior Department, the people who notified The Post said. The photos, however, did not prove Trump’s contention that the crowd size was upward of 1 million."..."

Wrong!

A Trump supporter was charged with voting twice. Her lawyer says she shouldn’t stand trial.

"A woman who was arrested after voting twice for Donald Trump — and in the process became a flash point in the voter fraud debate — is incompetent to stand trial, her attorney said in a motion filed in Iowa court.

Terri Lynn Rote, 56, was accused in late October of casting two ballots in the general election: an early-voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office and another at a county satellite voting location, according to police records. Rote, a registered Republican, remains charged with first-degree election misconduct, and her felony case has been winding through Iowa courts.

But her [tax-funded] court-appointed attorney, Jane White, filed a motion last week saying Rote has “cognitive limitations” and can’t stay focused for long periods — things that mean she wouldn’t be able to help prepare her defense,
according to the Des Moines Register..."

Wrong again!

Who are you calling "liberal-media establishment?"

They would all be for the other side. None of 'em come to me. But when you look at the people that are registered: dead, illegal and two states and some cases maybe three states — we have a lot to look into."

And

"PRESIDENT TRUMP: you're just asking a question. I would've easily won the popular vote, much easier, in my opinion, than winning the electoral college. I ended up going to 19 different states. I went to the state of Maine four times for one. I needed one.

I went to M — I got it, by the way. But it turned out I didn't need it because we ended up winning by a massive amount, 306. I needed 270. We got 306. You and everybody said, “There's no way you get to 270.” I mean, your network said and almost everybody said, “There's no way you can get to …” So, I went to Maine four times. I went to various places. And that's the beauty of the electoral college. With that being said, if you look at voter registration, you look at the dead people that are registered to vote who vote, you look at people that are registered in two states, you look at all of these different things that are happening with registration. You take a look at those registration for — you're gonna s — find — and we're gonna do an investigation on it.

DAVID MUIR: But 3 to 5 million illegal votes?

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we're gonna find out. But it could very well be that much. Absolutely..."

"Donnie Boy wants to launch a "major investigation" about it, wasting tax payer money to show what you claim "everyone knows" already"

actually, you may have noticed that what Donnie Boy wants he gets

everyone knows that people who move remain registered where they used to live as well

that's not what the investigation's about

it's about how many people actually voted illegally

give the ease with which things like this can happen and the unique motivation that illegal immigrants would have to defeat Trump, it's would take a moron to think it didn't happen

the question is to what extent

the investigation will find out

nasty woman are scared of what the investigation will reveal so their predictable response is "WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY!!"

it's what liberals always say

this is what Bill Clinton used to always say about he Monica Lewinsky investigation

this is what TTF always said about lawsuits against their pro-homosexuality curriculum

truth is there's no easy way to be free

nor is there a cheap way

"All a person with reading comprehension need do is click on the button that says "OPEN GRAPHIC" to read "How 2016 Became Earth's Hottest Year on Record," or click on the link that reads "National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration"to read "2016 marks three consecutive years of record warmth for the globe" or click on the link to the "Goddard Institute for Space Studies"to read "NASA, NOAA Data Show 2016 Warmest Year on Record Globally" to see the data showing 2016 was the hottest year on record"

all misleading

all three years were within the scientific measure of precision to 1998

the weather is about the same

there's no reason to expect that what happened after 1998 won't happen again

global warming has yet to resume

"I do not support the DonnyBoy's war on facts"

as you see from my post above, it's the alarmists trying hide the facts

Tracinski asked the NY times reporter "what is the exact temperature difference from 2015 to 206 and what is the margin of error?"

pretty basic facts to his story

the reporter said:

"you really think those numbers mean anything to the ordinary reader?"

yes, they would and it's clear whose not dealing with facts

Gregg Phillips, Discredited Voter Fraud ‘Expert’ Cited By Trump, Has Produced No Evidence

"....In media interviews, Phillips, 57, has said he’s a bit stunned that Trump cited him in a tweet and stated as fact that 3 million votes were cast illegally — which happens to be roughly the same number of popular votes that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton won over Trump.

Phillips is a former deputy commissioner at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. He has a checkered past, including accusations of ethics breaches in his work for two state governments. He owes more than $100,000 in unpaid federal taxes, according to an IRS lien, The Guardian reports.

He is also the creator of VoteStand, which he describes as an “anti-vote-fraud app.” After the presidential election in November, he declared there’d been widespread voter fraud.

But Phillips has been roundly denounced as a conspiracy theorist by academics and others who study voting. Phillips has claimed that former President Barack Obama’s Department of Homeland Security hacked the election. He has also said that “Israelis impersonated Russians” and interfered with the election, The New York Times reports.

Phillips offered a weak defense of himself in an interview Friday with ABC News. “I may be a wacko, I may be a nut, I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t really care what they say about me.”

When asked what facts he has to support his claim that millions of people voted illegally, Phillips said he is “building that case right now.”

Earlier on Friday, before Trump’s tweet, Phillips claimed to CNN that he has the names of 3 million people who voted illegally — but that he needs more time to prepare a report.

He told ABC he was taken aback that he’d appeared in a Trump tweet. “That was a little unexpected,” he said. “I mean, I’m just a regular guy and all of a sudden the president tweets my name and my whole world lit up for a little while today.”

Trump should have examined a bit more of Phillips’ past. Besides the IRS lien — he insists he actually owes less than $50,000, despite what court records say ― he has also been in trouble with state authorities. He has been accused of financially rewarding associates while serving in state government positions in both Mississippi and Texas, according to The Daily Beast.

A 1995 document by the Mississippi Legislature’s Joint Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review accuses Phillips of ethics violations and says his actions “facilitated an erosion of the public trust.” In 2005, the Houston Chronicle reported that Phillips had “played a role in a major state contract” being awarded to a former employer. A spokesman for the Texas comptroller told The Daily Beast that Phillips is no longer allowed to do business in the stat..."

Ooooh Donnie Boy sure can pick 'em.

Too bad they are mostly conspiracy theorists and cheats.

there have been studies showing that voter fraud occurred in past elections

this time, the government will conduct the study as a prelude to implementing measures to prevent it in the future

it could be they will find nothing but the intersection of opportunity, motivation and human nature make that unlikely

it may even turn out that Hillary electors did not get more overall votes

that's what makes liberals turn into nasty women

they're scared of what will be found

you know that when they start smear campaigns like the one above

they are very scared
